If Zidane didn't get the red card, then:
1. he'd have a chance to score a goal for France.
2. he would shoot in the penalties. Maybe instead of that T guy (not Turgeis!) with a goatee, whose name I forgot. And even if he'd be shooting anyway, he could score because of point 3.
3. France team's morale would be higher. Zidane leaving = rest of the team getting demoralised AND France's fans being pissed = team getting even more demoralised. Low morale = getting angry = hard to focus = you play worse. Not-Turgeis' miss was very close, if he focused a bit more he'd have scored.

That's one of the opportunities in life you just can't pass up though. Like what, a billion people or so were watching? When are you going to get that kind of chance to headbutt a guy again? It's just not the same if it's in some seedy bar.
