Im not offended in any way. Your entitled to your opinion, and I personally thought it was some nice RP and thats why its funny. If a situation like that had happened in real life it would obviously not be acceptable, but its not real life and thats the point
Arix2006-06-22 19:49:59
That wasn't my normal RP.Apparently when other people are being censor.gif holes, it's contagious. Also, I wouldn't mind knowing who Kissos is the alt of

nono.gif Judging the RP of other people = BAD!

Not it in all situations it isn't.

Everyone is patting him on the back for using OOC information to make fun of an OOC friend in a very immature way.

Sure, it may be RP, but it isn't the sort they're making it out to be. All it does is ruin immersion, in my opinion, and that is why I dislike it.

"Oh, I'm a sadist!" does not cut it, because that was not being sadistic, that was being a bafoon.

I had a lot of respect for Magnagora until so many of them seem to be so eager to jump to the defence of outright idiocy like this. Even if its "RP", ICly it should have been a disgrace to the city and the rank he holds for him to be acting like some sort of grade school bully.
Archthron2006-06-22 19:58:12
How could they do something like that if they -didn't- know the person involved wouldn't mind? Clearly if you go abusing people Without the OOC knowledge, then that's harassment, yes? Instead, they made sure the roleplay would be acceptable instead of risking actually offending someone. Why is this immature?

It doesn't ruin immersion if that's the way immersion works there. Just because everyone in whereever you're from is all nice, doesn't mean that's the definition of immersion. If anything I'd say it detracts from immersion if everyone is friendly all the time. So unrealistic!
Veonira2006-06-22 20:14:31
Well the thing about it is, it's funny (although a little too long tongue.gif) if you know who Kissos is. However this sort of thing only happened because of that. People do pick on the younger ones in Magnagora occasionally, but not to such a huge extent.

Dude, you don't know me. Most of my characters are brutal assholes. Immersion is fitting a role. A member of the nobility acting like a 4th grader and getting patted on the back for it is what ruins immersion.

And do I really need to point out what's immature about someone "Hey, you look like a ball, let me kick you over and over and over!"

With younger nobility, sure, they could get away with it, but once you're older than 12 you're expected to act in a way that reflects well upon your house. Unless Magnagoran nobility cares nothing for "apperances".. but oops, we already know they do. They even rebelled when someone dared put the wrong shrine up in the city.

And i'm not saying you shouldn't ask before you do painful RP with someone, however, only doing it because you know the person's alt, and because you make fun of them on said alt, is not RP. Its the inability to seperate one character from another, and is a prime example of how the OOC friendships in this game are pretty frick'n stupid.
Unknown2006-06-22 20:29:01
I found the logs to be good because its something that Mags would do. I kind of am sad I don't see that a little more often whenever I make alts in Mag. Mag=military boot camp. Has any of you gone to boot camp, I mean really military boot camp. My dad did, he says it very tough. They will hound on you and hound on you if you're obese or you're jackass until you shapen up. I expect the same from Mag. They're hard core military.

Now, I don't find it funny because I am sick and tired of seeing people picked on because I know that I've been picked on my whole life. I've seen too many people been picked on and I've seen what that sort of thing can do. Now...some people harden up and they get even or some people are tramatized by it and either turn in on themselves or they suicide. It all depends on the person's personality.

I will agree with some people and say that I think that it could have been handle more maturely and I wouldn't have been sickened by it...but that's probably Mederrach way of Rping such a thing.

I'm not going to comment on the rest of the thread, but I have to call bull on this bit.

Nobles in many countries during the middle ages, especially eastern and southern european countries, would act like this ALL THE TIME. Being noble meant, yes, you can do practically anything you want to the people below you. Nobles raped, beat, tortured, and generically abused their lowers frequently. This is perfectly normal for a high-ranking citizen of a militaristic empire that follows, among others, a goddess of pain and a god of hate.

Point two: Sure, making fun or messing with someone overweight or obese nowadays, IRL, is pretty mean. I don't support it in any way. But in a more medieval, less technological world like Lusternia, to get that fat takes a hell of a lot of effort. I'd have a lot less patience with an XXXL in 13th century Germany than in 21st century America.

You can call bull, but you'd be wrong. Yes, Nobles raped, beat, tortured, and abused their subordinants, but not in public, unless it was to send a message. Too much of that sort of thing leads to uprisings, which definitely wasn't wanted. A Lord might take a bride before the husband. A lord might push someone out of the way or hit them for looking at him funny. A Lord would not stand there for 20 minutes backhanding someone while calling them fatty over and over again. That has no class, and it would be faaaar below a Lord to act like the local drunkard.

Also, lets not forget the Demonlord of Gluttony, while we're at it.

And Point Two, you're wrong again. In medieval society, being overweight was a sign of propserity and wealth. If you are massively overweight, its assumed you are pretty well off personally, or have some form of connection, because it does take a lot of effort.. and how many peasents in Medieval euorpe that had sort of food/comfort?

A lot of Magnagorans can be compared to schoolyard bullies - it's not an insult, it's their RP. They play at being nobility, yes, but nobles can be as petty and abusive as anyone else.

Fallen, this is not 'medieval society', and this is not real life nobility. It is Magnagoran society and Viscnati nobility. They have absolutely no reason to base their actions on real life example, because they are totally different groups.

Hazar brought up medieval society, number 1. And Viscanti nobility is based off of medieval nobility. Do you not remember what happened when the Elcryion shrine was put up and Daevos didn't cater to the Nobles? They flexed their muscles and got their way. They didn't tie him down and tape rubber breasts to his chest while calling him "Wussy" for an hour.

Not every person in Magnagora is nobility, and not every single noble has to be a carbon copy of the next noble. Some are more dignified while others are complete savages. Medieval society was not full of tainted monstrosities.

Yet all of the NPC Viscanti Nobles would say that they are all meant to be dignified. Hell, if you were ugly they sent you off to Ankrag, what do you think they're going to do if you're a brute savage that is an affront to their sensibility? Probably something similar.

Even Niflhema is about pain and torture as an artform what was done in the log was in no way and artform, as was below every single Demonlord's example. Screw real world, it was out of whack for every IC precedent.

Ashtorath would have approved. And have you personally spoken to every NPC Viscanti in Magnagora?

Ashtorath would not have approved. Ashtorath is about brute force, destruction, and "spectacular" action. None of that was brutal or in any way impressive. And you don't have to speak to each of them to understand how the nobility works from past events as well as comments made by Estarra.
Unknown2006-06-22 21:06:48
I believe I'm in a better position than you when it comes to knowing what Ashtorath would approve of, hmm? He is brutal and full of hate, yes, but there's nothing too "spectacular" about him, besides the sheer scope of his hatred. Harming someone through scathing insults might be a bit tame for him, but it's better than nothing.
Unknown2006-06-22 21:07:18
IMO it's just another bit of RP, but I don't think it should have been posted on the forums.

Apparently you aren't in a better position. His censor.gif ing blurb in AB NIHILISM REVILED is where the "spectacular action" being one of his preferences came from.

And in what world is "fatty" and "you look like a ball" a scathing insult?

An astute observation, in a way.

I know of at least one person posting in this thread other than myself who has experienced such and agrees, knowing that Kissos wasn't oocly offended by it, that it was an acceptable way of handling the situation.
Unknown2006-06-23 00:46:50
You know? The only one that I wanted to beat the crap out that time was Haiden and Ooparu because if you are in Magnagora you are supposed to respect your superiours. Yes, they act childish and they look like ass hats but they are Counts and Lords while you are a Serf.

And half way through you can note that Kissos was playing all along because most of the things are illusions and anyone who is in Bellator Societas is not a newbie who could've just logged out or issue over any channel.

I don't find the log funny, but rather amusing. Harden up, people
