I am new to Lusternia, I am a Merian Paladin and I think I will be roleplaying a Paladin who believes in the old way of Celest. Does anyone know how the old paladins would have acted before the taint came about? I am also never going to "team" or "jump" people. I think it will be fun to roleplay an honourable knight. I would really appriciate it and I look forward to playing with you all!

Basically all we know about the old Paladins guild can be found in the game's histories. I strongly suggest reading them, if you didn't already.

But basically, they were a sort of Celest's elite "policemen", responsible for the safety of the capital. We do not know much about their code of conduit, but we have our invention to make something up.

Ah, and don't feel discouraged - New Celest has some stupid (as in, very non-roleplaying) people, and some are even somewhat prominent. They have enough good roleplayers though, but the bad side always gets noticed first.

is Celest as bad as achaea...and why would they not roleplay, I read roleplay is required here? And thank you for your help Cuber, I had read that the paladins where the Elite Force of Celest, and the ur'guard where like the grunts. Do you think the Paladins thought themselfs better then the Ur'guard back then?

Other way around, I think. Paladins were like the police / honour guard (the pretty domestic soldiers who made all the citizens cheer!), while the ur'Guard were the elite military task force that actually did the dirty work.
Unknown2006-06-20 16:08:34
Oh gods, no. Celest is not like Achaea.

hmm, did the paladins respect the Ur'guard then?

I would assume so- they were both different branches of the same force, after all. Odds are that there would be some friendly rivalry between them, but when push comes to shove they're on the same side. I'd guess that the ur'Guard would have less respect for the Paladins, however, due to the "we're the ones actually fighting while they're off sipping tea and holding parade drills" factor, but in the end... that's not really hostility or the lack of any respect at all, just not as much of it.
Hazar2006-06-20 16:21:42
Hostility comes after that whole 'Taint' thing.

Think of the Paladins as the Secret Service, guarding the VIPs and looking cool. The ur'Guard are more like the Delta Force or the SEALs.
Daganev2006-06-20 16:37:30
I would think that the paladins would like at the ur'guard the way that desk cops and lawyers look at prison guards. (i.e. the prison guards do all the dirty work)

ahh, also I dont really understand the portal of fates, do we all come out of the fates as the same person we where before the taint hit with memory loss. Or was my character born after the taint?

or am I totaly wrong?

He is 16 years old, having been born on the 5th of Kiani, 134 years after the Coming of Estarra.

Assuming you're this Paladin, you were born waaaay after the taint, given that the taint had already been rempant for centuries before Estarra's coming. The memories of those 16 years before stepping through the Portal may have vanished, however.
Sylphas2006-06-20 16:49:40
AFAIK, we all at some point in our lives (between 16 and 29) venture through the Portal. It makes us special, and not just mere mortals. It's why the Fates don't just let us die, I think. It also wreaks havoc sometimes on your memories.

Given your age, your character is obviously born long after the tainting. Nevertheless, those who just come out of the portal of fate are often hit with memory loss with respect to their former personal life history (i.e. family, etc). So you'll have to slowly figure out who you are and what you 'remember' of your past.

Paladins are actually my favorite guild in Celest. You can find quite the respectable fighters and all around good characters.

So far, out of the guilds I have been, the Paladins are one of the most RPing intensive guilds, maybe the Celestines coming in close.

And regarding them, they were(for what we know) the elite royal guard and perhaps the soldiers more closer to the title of royalty. Heck, the knighting ceremony now proves that they are Royalty in Celest.

I recomend talking more fully with your current Lord Genera, Bandeon. Also if you can with Malicia, Raikogen, Tervic(when he's acting normal) and Rafael if you can find him.

I know this may be sounding like a broken record, however I, on behalf of all of the administration, implore you to approach NPCs for questions on history/things like this question here.

Note: I (we) -fully- recognize that it may take a while to get a response, and you may never, but really, the best way to gain new information is to interact with the denizens, and to not give up hope.
Hazar2006-06-20 20:04:32
And when you actually get an answer, it's a rush.

Even if they're snippy. Damn y'Bolgari priest.
Unknown2006-06-20 20:15:11
Well, Hazar, you can't expect them to stick around too long. They're willing to have denizens speak to us, but they also have other work to do. I'm always ecstatic when a denizen actually replies to me. Hooray for Rowena and all the misinformation some Divine had to make up to keep Guido from bugging her every ten minutes.

Cheers to that.

I remember bugging Korath and Avarath for a longgg time before I ever got a response. When I did finally manage to gain their 'attention', it was a lot of fun.

Not snippy in terms of length. We had a quite extended conversation. But I got my question in and he was like 'Peh! I won't do your work for you!', and I was all manipulative-like, going 'What, you don't know?', and he was all like 'I do, but I don't want to tell you. Nyaa-nyaa.' And it went like that for five minutes. And then I left, since he was just sneering at me.

Fun, but unproductive.
