I wanted to know what is the general gist behind Tarot and Hexes. Which one works better in which places and in under what circumstances.

Any information would be very appratieated.

Tarot is by far better for utility. Hermit and Catacombs help with traveling, and it has some other nifty things. It also has Aeon, which is always nice to have as an option.

Hexes has more variety of afflictions, but it's worthless outside of combat. The melancholic change nerfed hexlocks, so allhex really isn't scary anymore, and you can fight a hexen without needing focus mind. It's still not that bad.

For a Nihilist, Tarot generally synergizes better. You will miss Aeon dearly if you go Hexes. Tarot also has a lot of utility in the form of catacombs tarot to get around, Hermit to escape, Lust/Empress, Soulless is an awesome instant kill, and the card that heals you, as well as starleaper and other various cards.

That being said, Hexes does have a lot of potential for a Nihilist but no one has really used it effectively yet.

Celestians get Healing, not Hexes.

EDIT: You edited that, and you still missed the fact that World tarot doesn't let you travel; that's Catacombs. tongue.gif

what's better for raids and defending planes and such?
Arix2006-06-21 21:25:07
hexes seems like it would be great for group combat, where you could use it without people noticing

You might not notice, but triggers always notice. And the same could be said for tarot.

there is a skill that masks hexes

There is a skill that masks Azael's avatar too... or am I the only one who has it?

With setup time, Hexes can be annoying. Liberally scatter them across the area, turn on sense if you want. Watch people yell for cheese.

Not sure how much that is actually effective, but it can be annoying.

Or I could be a mage and set up a demesne. That's not what I want to do glare.gif

Nah, it's a Moondancer skill too apparently.

Well, you don't have to, but it's an option if you're bored some day.

Tarrot is better because you basically need aeon to be able to make any afflictions stick at all. As someone said you will miss aeon a lot if you take hexes.
Sylphas2006-06-22 23:29:17
Or you can be a Wiccan and get both. smile.gif

Go Lyco, taking Hexes as a Nihilist and going against the norm.
Kaervas2006-06-23 00:53:49
*has hexes too* It's pretty sweet, the last time I had hexes was before doublewhammy and all the fun stuff. It'll be very nice with refresh power.
Unknown2006-06-23 01:36:05
I pick tarot over hexes for hermit alone. Single most useful ability in the game, IMO. Makes escaping from almost anything a breeze, and can travel across the world in an instant with no power cost. Joy.
Narses2006-06-23 05:23:27
I prefer Tarot. I find it more useful and far cooler really.

masking every 3 flings costs 3 power... which is just about the same as hexes... each making costing 1 power. Another thing is that it's easier to throw two hexes at once, with tarot, you can activate Enigma - which is damn high in there, and you'll get a second random offensive card fling for the next 5 throws. Those will be masked however.

To each their own. Tarot requires more preperation, but I lurve it wub.gif
