I was wondering about something...
Wouldn't it be cool if you could have non-lethal combat options or subdual damage. It might allow for things like bar room brawls or similar types of battle, or for practice.
I'd like to see a system where you could punch, kick, or use the flat part of a sword, a club, or similar that drains endurance, or use the bashing skill as "illusionary magic" which would attack willpower. You go to zero for either of them and you fall unconscious until fully healed.
It could have RP effects too. Maybe certain Celestians who are peaceful decide they will only do non-lethal damage. Or it could be used as an alternative to "peaced" influencing--instead of having no attacks, you just have to use limited powers to subdue the other political parties.
Any thoughts?

I think something similar to this was brought up, warriors dueling or something. The part I like about this is it's use in peaced villages. Gives us warriors something to do .

I would love it.... going into bars and causing problems. Finding the mudsexin novvies and beating them to a bloody pulp with out killing them (this would have to work through grace too). We could have like gang wars and stuff. I could be king of the sewers!! Daevos can run the west side of Mag and Lyco the east side. Wow, I am getting carried away...
Hazar2006-06-22 00:27:21
So long as I get the south side.

I claim Central. Try to brawl without power!

I will sneak up from the sewers and take power!!! Thus the sewers will prevail

I think this would be a -GREAT- idea. Except for one thing. If you have the attacks to strike at one's endurance and willpower, that is just going to be horrible. Do you know how hard it is for me to regain nearly 3/4's of my willpower after a nice dreamweaving display? Even with greenman, rocker, and will regen rooms - its long!

Jasper, just go spar in the arena and lose?
Unknown2006-06-22 00:45:39
Well, it should damage something, otherwise it's just an emote battle. And I see that to replace gaining or losing experience.

No.. that's not abusing the system much.

Just have so that non-lethal damage still hurts your health, but if you fall to zero from it, you go to sleep (and strips kafe/metawake) for the length of time it takes to pray.
Although that sounds abusable...
Anything I think of for it, actually, sounds abusable, but it's an AWESOME idea.

We brought it up once, but nothing came of it, and the thread died out.
Sylphas2006-06-22 03:18:42
Actually, just have non-lethal damage damage health, but not kill you when you hit zero; nothing happens. In actual combat it would be the same as normal damage, unless it was the last hit, and even then, any point of normal damage kills you, so it's not like someone could jump in with non-lethal to save you or something.
The biggest problem, I think, is what syntax would you use? Just a general toggle that affects everything you do until you switch back?

START DUEL WITH
AGREE TO DUEL
Lasts for 10 minutes or until someone loses.

Then you can't randomly beat someone down who's pissing you off without killing them and getting in trouble.
Verithrax2006-06-22 03:29:30
True. Remove the agree bit; duel with replaces declare.
Alternatively, if you attack someone with pk careful up and without declaring, you do nonlethal damage.

Too abusable. 10 warriors lunge/crush and then one person declares and newbiekicks them and they die.

Just make it so that you get status from DUEL just like you would DECLARE if the person dies. Problem solved.

I heard tales of one who used to use the arena for all such cases, and got the ire of the gods directed at them for awhile.
