What would it take

Back to Common Grounds.

I'm uber-good at running now that I have hermit and catacombs too!

Nihilists still remain the ultimate escapists though (hermit, catacombs, ghost, lich).

Serenwilde really needs to grow some balls.

For about a half-hour, I was sitting outside Serenwilde. There were at least 5 Serens around who periodically showed up to glance at me. A few of them sat there, with me on one side and them on the other. If they had taken everyone there and attacked me, they would have easily owned me. But... they didn't. For some reason they all decided to be afraid of a single person when there was a whole swarm of them and just sit there, occasionally pointing cudgel at me or pushing in hexes, neither of which really did anything.

Now, if I'd tried this kind of stunt outside Magnagora, I would have been owned within seconds. Probably Glomdoring too, though I'd probably have got away from Glom. But Serenwilde refused to even try and attack me.

A single lone fighter isn't going to beat five of you attacking at the same time!

This situation also happened earlier outside Shanthmark, when Forren and I were just sitting there for a while and it took them about twenty minutes to decide to attack us.

Attacking you, maybe. 5:1 ratio is pretty normal for some of us.

Shamarah2006-06-30 01:35:51
Well, an organized group of 5 people attacking a lone person without a cubix...
Shayle2006-06-30 01:39:34
Sitting outside of an organization's borders or villages is very annoying. If that's the kind of thing that floats your boat...I guess that's fine, but it just seems lame and pointless to me...not to mention a waste of time for pretty much everyone involved.

Xenthos2006-06-30 02:03:06
I remember *certain groups of Serenwilders* standing right outside Stewartsville for 5+ hours straight, for no real reason except to be a nuisance.

Hrm.

Are any of the members of those groups still Serenwilders?

First name still seems to be. tongue.gif

Not exactly sure what you are refering to, but all the tasks that the Ebonguard have, do help the guild, and the guildmember.
Actually I was talking about the Moondancer's witching path, not anything having to deal with the ebonguard.

@ Sham:So wait, Serenwilde needs to grow balls because... they didn't attack you when you -weren't- raiding? O_o "I'll sit outside and try to draw them out so they have less of an advantage", then that's not raiding, that's jumping, no wonder they wouldn't want to walk into that.

I just wish the Serenwilde didn't have a billion points of entry to cover as it stands we -do- have to worry about people on that road, novices and lowbies cross over that all the time doing various things.

QUOTE(Furien @ Jun 30 2006, 01:01 AM) 303845

I've generally left Lusternia, except to pop in and hunt a few things out of boredom. Whenever I create alts...the fun dies. Fast.

1. I learn, and from all my alts only two people ever bothered to TALK to me and EXPLAIN things or at least form some sort of teacher-mentor CONNECTION.

Maybe people were busy. There's not a lot of Serenwilde folks present even at high times, and they might have had things to take care of, for example raiding. It's not the end of the world when you have to read a GHELP novice starting file.

QUOTE

2. They just shove me out into the real world. I ask how to do something, I'm ignored. I have to find it out myself.

I can assure you that the Serenguard never treat novices like that, unless there's no one but other novices present.

QUOTE

3. Staying IC is so freaking BORING if you do it constantly, and any friends I invite from other games to talk to generally meet the same fate as I do- leaving, or just dying out.

Oh noes! They force us to argh-pee! Sorry, but... just, no comment/

QUOTE

4. There's never any real INTERESTING things being done. Especially in Seren. Way too young to be an aide, most of the people I run into are idiotic novices who sit at Mother just doing random emotes to random people and creep the hell out of them. When I'm done questing and hunting, I'd normally like to TALK to someone, but I have absolutely no connection with ANYONE except possibly my character's twin sister..and we're both horribly bored.

Don't be afraid to talk to people you don't know then. That's the problem with many people - there is a LOT of cool things to do in Lusternia, but they simply sit around on their bums and want to have entertainment shoved down their throats by others. Initiative, people! You won't find fun if you expect it to come to you.

QUOTE

5. When you're a warrior, your skills get boring. Fast. When you're Serenguard, you use all your lessons to Master things. I've got no tradeskill. wacko.gif

Anti-mob skills are rather boring, yes. Jab, jab, raze, jab, get body. But so it is in every other guild. While totems (or especially tracking) can be a cool thing to play with. I don't get the mastering part. No one forced you to spend lessons on anything, and it's not that getting enough to reach Mastery in any skill is a hard thing...

QUOTE

6. I'd spar, but I get owned. Fast. Manual, too...but I suppose this point doesn't really count- I'm still learning how to even cure things.

Everybody was a combat noob one day. You spar so you won't get owned in the future. Aerenna is always ready to help new people how to fight, and it's not that she'll unleash all the power in the arena, destroying you in a second. Manual won't get you very far, but Ethelon's free system is... well, free, and good enough for starters.

QUOTE

7. CT, GT, GNT, all quiet. My two clans are guild clans only. Boring.

See point 4. If they're quiet, make so they are not. Ask questions or talk about some political or philosophical topic. Or just find interesting people and talk to them personally.

QUOTE

8. Wherever I go, there seems to be a lack of variety. It's like bashing- you only use one thing. MAYBE two or three, depending on your skills. It reminds me of..Aardwolf. And Questor and quest sitting. explode.gif

Agree. But it's hunting, and hunting is boring. There are two exceptions: PVP or RP. Focus on one of them. It's fun.

QUOTE

Okay, done droning. Back to...doing nothing.

As I said, and will say (well, write) again - you do nothing in Lusternia only when it's your decision. There's a lot of things to do, but they require some effort and good will (even minimal amounts). But it's easier to sit, do nothing and complain.

You should join Glomdoring. I get jumped before I get there. ninja.gif

EDIT: Or you need to be a bigger, scarier pest.
Unknown2006-06-30 14:04:55
It isn't that we don't have balls, it's that the Serenwilde has historically been on good terms with Celest, and we want to avoid conflict as much as possible. You are wearing us thin though...
Sylphas2006-06-30 14:08:24
I'd have to say that that's probably the point. If he wanted Celest to be buddies with us, he'd know better than to do screw around like this.
Soll2006-06-30 14:37:15
Yeap. Because Serenwilde is totally innocent in this.
Vix2006-06-30 14:42:57
Trying to put away all bias, Celest did seem to act a little childish in the way they enemied. It almost seemed like "Okay, you attacked us in our territory so you get enemied." "WHAT?! Okay, Mr. Guy-who-only-enemied, I don't like you so you get enemied to Celest!"
Exarius2006-06-30 14:50:24
All the people I know who've stopped caring have done so because they're not able to make a difference. When nothing you do changes anything, you quickly learn to do nothing.

A lot of that is no one's fault. MUDs as we know them aren't designed to react to the accomplishments of individuals. They're mostly just treadmills that let you feel like you're going somewhere without any real change of scenery. And when the scenery does change, it's because someone moved the cage, not because you actually did anything yourself.

That's why I never stress the grand, GM-created plots and organizations. Those are all about game balance and game necessity and explaining new game elements as they appear. They may allow players to fill pre-planned roles and pretend they're the catalysts for some change that was going to happen whether they were there or not, but the outcome is the outcome is the outcome, because it took way too many man-hours of prep work in setting up to change it now.

Instead of playing out those charades, I focus on the limited venues I actually have control over: clan and cartel, manse and shop, aethership and friendship.

You want people to actually care about Serenwilde, find a way for them to make a difference.

Oh, and you might also try to lighten up. Being nasty to outsiders for being outsiders just convinces them you're the sort of group they didn't want to be a part of to begin with.
Furien2006-06-30 15:04:14
It's not that I hate RP, Cuber. I'm all for it. Sometimes, though, it can get stale..and I'm only talking obviously OOC tells with a friend. dunno.gif

And it wasn't all about Serenguard, either. They're actually pretty good. biggrin.gif
