Serenwilde has no sense of direction.
It needs to figure out what it wants and then go for it.
Too many directions, and a whole lot of dead weight not interested in moving at all, rather.
I also love it. We're too friendly in some cases, and not friendly enough in others.
No wonder I'm tired.
Ixion2006-06-27 17:04:31
They really didn't. Nejii handles things pretty well.

On Tsuki's big post: such people are mostly kicked out by now. If new ones appear, I won't hesitate to remove them either.

Also, people could try to be a bit nicer. Yeah, I know, I'm a wimp, but that's how it goes. No one needs your sarcasm, we believe you- you're smart and witty. Young people don't want that.
Who are you speaking to?

Honestly, I don't find Serenwilde an extremely friendly environment.
Should we be? Would this bring more interest? OOCly, I hate people who snuggle all the time and do nothing else, and ICly, Shorlen doesn't think people should be doing that in public. He tries not to be rude in public though, keeping things to private tells
Unless you mean me though, the only person I know of who actively makes Serenwilde an unpleasent environment is Aerenna...
Rashidat2006-06-27 17:27:50
I find the spirits of the Serenwilde lacking. They are very generic and not very compelling.
Diamondais2006-06-27 17:29:22
I tried to go back as an alt, and I still show up sometimes on it. But it seems wherever Ive gone in Serenwilde theres just been a general feeling of 'I dont care' and its discouraging. Yes, the events lately have been pushing you guys into this by saying, as you said it earlier Shorlen, that you guys havent been doing your duty. The Moondancers..what happened to you guys? Does no one remember the days we used to laugh and joke on the aethers? Serenwilde when we used to believe we were doing right no matter what? That Magnagora and Celest were wrong? That Glomdoring had only lost its way and needed guidence? Everyone seems so unproachable these days, and those who we had there for everything is so distant, or gone.
Its sad to see Serenwilde go this way, and I wish I could help. But all I can say right now is you guys need to learn to laugh a bit more. And you guys need something to fight for, something worthwhile. Though, I understand where you come from.

But I'm working on that, and I always feel bad afterwards.

Personally, I disagree. On the surface, they aren't very interesting, but if you really think about them and what they stand for, they're actually rather deep. Or at least, I think so. Specifically, White Hart, who teaches what is almost a form of bhuddism.
Sarin2006-06-27 17:34:42
No, I don't mean you. It was a general "you".
And I don't support snuggling or other such practices either. It's just... how I feel. Not the most important issue, but one that is there and does bother me.

Yes they are complex, that is also why I never wanted to teach novices. It always seemed like an enormous task to distill that into a brief presentation. I also didn't feel I had enough of a grasp on them to answer questions. Could just be me though

That is, however, something that I think is the problem with individual guilds. In my eyes, how welcome a newbie feels depends entirely on how their guild welcomes them, and what their guild gives them to do, and how much their guild helps them with what they are doing.
Sylphas2006-06-27 17:52:49
Another problem is that we always, it seems, put the fae and the spirits before the Serenwilde itself. That doesn't work. Especially when events shift things with the fae.

That's because the Moondancers ran everything before
From all this, I have a few ideas. Hmm, I'll see what I can do with them.

There are a few young ones who care: Sarin, Yini, I think Flacarealah is relatively young, Derian is rather young, Kalodan isn't that old, though he doesn't really have a say in things (not that that has EVER stopped him from speaking anyway).
You forgot about Sarrasri. She helps with novices, even if she doesn't teach all the time. I wrote quizzes about the Serenwilde and the guilds for novices so they could be more informed, but I stopped holding them because there just seemed lack of interest. I'd ask and it'd take me such a long time just to get 3 people to participate. I even went and got prizes for everyone, such as rings with mercy and clothes and herbs. She still talks with novices and answers questions when she can. I also get Fae when I can, but it's disheartening when you go look and all the ones there either are for Night or want to stay.

I forgot to list a lot of people. But yes, I meant to say Sarrasri - she's a wonderful newish person who really does care
Shamarah2006-06-27 18:00:52
Who cares if they're for Night or want to stay? Take them anyway.

Well, it's part of the agreement with Glom - Shayle was the only intelligent person out of the three
EDIT: Of course, we don't need to keep to the agreement. We need to determine what's important to us and go with it. The problem is figuring that out, since everyone has something different they consider important to them. I think I'm going to try to impose more of the White Hart's views on the Wilde - Moon has been ascendant long enough. White Hart would say, "Find what is important to yourself - that is what is important."

The most vocal ones, yes. There are others who are more subtle about it and other things who are still around.

Things like the comments, slightly exaggerated, that I added in my previous post. It actually reminded me at times, in the thick of things, about a program I saw on false confessions. Basically, if you get an authority saying you did something and someone else confirming that they think the authority was right, even someone innocent of doing the thing will likely think and agree that they did it. We get Maeve and the fae and the fae knights screaming at us and saying essentially that everything we've always been doing was wrong and horrible, then we get Gloms and whoever else and our own commune and guild mates jumping in and saying the same thing ... that's damned hard to fight against with any amount of success, and certainly not by only a few people without getting worn down by it. We can work to claim protection until we're blue in the face, but folk are still going to accuse slavery and denial of free will if we do.
As a generalization, Serenwilders want to be happy and friendly with the Basin. Too many don't see that we're in a game, and the name of the game is conflict between different areas for various reasons with constant and consistent areas of tension and various results. They'll deny the IC validity of those reasons because of OOC ideas they'll bring IC in some fashion. And they won't subscribe to the full immersion of their chosen area and world. Sure, you can have a unique individual character who isn't a cookie cutter stereotype for the area ... but they can still have their foundations set in it.
