That's been my experience too, mostly. Although ancient in the Sents was more like gr10-15, since we bumped everyone gr3-10 a rank every few years.
We should utilize all the ranks, though. gr5 should pretty much be "You hang around being helpful most of the time," gr10 should be "You're decently important, maybe been a sec for a bit," and over that should be veterans who have been around forever and done a ton.

There were several GR10+s in the Moondancers, and not through any advancement program. Ibby liked to give out her favour every day to someone who deserved it.

Laysus, Nejii, and I all got to GR10 without an advancement program. Lots of GR8s too.
Sylphas2006-06-28 20:36:11
Doesn't seem to be much of that anymore.

The Ebonguard is full of people GR10 and above...
Our system handles inactive GA's quite well I think.

Pssh...we don't got no GR10's since Abethor left. Just the guild leaders, you....yeah. No other GR!0+'s are active.
Highest right now, after you and outside the leadership, is like 8 or 9.

You make it sound like it was Etanru's idea...
Considering the size of the Ebongaurd, Abethor and Shulgin is huge!, but we also have 4 active gr8s.. and 5 people who would be gr5 if they ever logged in

To be honest, I never liked IRE's guildranks. For one, 20 guildranks are way too many. Then, there is, as far as I know, no list of the respective powers given by each rank. Also, it takes way too many favours to advance someone to the next rank once a basic level is reached. So you have to put really, really much effort into earning a high but rather abstract guild rank.
On the other hand, you have the occasional ex-leadership who won a lucky election and left after one year of office, and got bumped to GR19 for it automatically. Trying to reduce them back to their old guildrank would be rather impossible due to the massive number of disfavours it would need, and usually you don't REALLY want to reward someone's leadership service with a few RL months of daily disfavours. Depending on how horrible the leader was, of course.
But as I said, there are too many ranks. I mean, how do you build a reasonably intuitive hierarchy out of 20 possible ranks in a guild of, what, 50 active members at max? That's part of why I think many people at some point just stop trying, not only because they're too lazy to do the requirements, but also because they just don't have any idea of what the point of getting to, why, GR15 would be. Apart from being able to pull rank on GR14s.
The Serenguard has a history now? That sort of sounds like they just got one dropped into their laps last tuesday, anyone care to elaborate? *perk*
Or do you mean they have one by now and whoever was talking is just outdated?

They got a history during the White Hart/Dark Spirit event. The Serenguard were formed by the Centaurs after Grutina tried to eradicate them. They were formed by Centaurs, Moondancers, and Hartstone, but not to "Protect the People" from outside forces, like they do now--they were formed to keep the Hartstone in check and make sure they didn't go batshit loco again.

that's how its always been. Even when Grutina was first revealed, we were supposed to keep it a secret, because he was the only one who remembered. Both the Moondancer's guild tutor and the Serenguard's had had their memories wiped of the event.
And it doesn't help that there was always distrust between the players. You had the Moondancers excelling looking down their noses at the 'blah' that was Hartstone and Serenguard, which just bred trouble between the guilds.
Serenwilde is pretty much defined by its internal conflict. Both in its pre-game history and post-opening events.

I try to do that too. But we're so small, that if I didn't, no one would ever move up.
After our post-novice program, which I consider to be "shadowdancer training," all my guildmembers are GR3 at least, and many are GR4. Higher than that is hard--once it takes more than one of the leaders' favours to move you up, it's just too hard to keep up with all the young ones moving up the ranks.
That being said...thank you to all the compliments from people about Shayle. Don't hear many things that don't involve an insult!
And Shorlen, if you ever want to talk OOC about motivational tactics, things that work and things that don't...I'm good for ideas, and I really like involving the young immediately. I've had a lot of success with the Shadowdancers, and I still consider them one of the best in the basin. I'm glad to help out if you want the help!

Now that's an interesting thought...
Have Serenwilde actually be the morally darker of the two forests, trying to hide all of their missteps by wiping people's memories. (and if you think about that, that sounds VERY similar to the whole false memory thing...)
