I've had a story in the works since... well, a few months after Lusternia opened to the public. I've added to it little by little and edited it hundreds of times, but now that it's around... 75% complete, I've just stopped. Same goes for my background. I can't get any inspiration or enthousiasm to write anymore... even the thought of possible juicy credits doesn't help sad.gif So for all you writers, how do you motivate yourself? What is the Viagra equivalent for literature??

I like the whole stream of conciousness thing; don't stop and edit yourself, don't think too much about what goes where and who says what, just write and write until you feel you've written your story.

Then leave it, go have a coffee or give it a rest for a day.

When you come back to it, you get to edit the censor.gif out of it and make it better.

I've always found the worst thing I can do when writing a first draft is to stop and edit as I go along.

As for inspiration: my dreams inspire me a lot. I have very messed up dreams sometimes, and I can grab little bits and pieces from there and try to weave it into a story.

That said, I've been lazy with my writing over the past year, only churning out a piece every now and then. I used to write all the time. Hell, I almost got a scholarship to a writing school, but they said I was too young (I was about 10, and it was a highschool so the kids were 13+).

This is an actual tip from the Pros

For inspiration... that only depends on you

perhaps watching aa movie, reading a book or playing an old videogame might help

Whenever I needed some inspiration for my latest story I'd hole myself up in the Magnagoran council chambers and stare at the custom painting there for awhile.

Oh the story I am working on at the moment is very slightly inspired by that story, "The Emporer's New Clothes" by Hans Christian Anderson. Only somewhat inspired, but the spark came from there.

Normally what I do if I'm writing something is I'll start it, and have small breaks inbetween. Not just like coffee/caffine or bathroom breaks, I'll go take a nap or watch some t.v then come back. Or..I read the forums as I work on the piece. Once I've finished I usually ask my mom to edit it....I just am not very good at editing myself or anyone for that matter. I would suggest that you take breaks every now and then, read a bit or watch something...that's how I usually get inspired..I see something off of t.v. or a movie. And once you've finished your work, I would (If typing) print two copies or more. Give extra copies to people you know and let them look at your work, because sometimes you'll miss mistakes.
