For the past few months, I have been inactive for the most part. I looked at the game today, and Celest is much different than it used to be. A lot more bickering and in-fighting going on, much more than there should be, and I feel helpless to even begin to bring Celest back to what it used to be. I feel like Morik does in-character, in a way.
My question for you all: Should Celest be dissolved and a new organization made that is not so "omg, light, taintdienowkthnxbye"?
I think the taint wars should end once and for all, or at least become back story to the game. Sure, it was fun for Magnagora and Celest to war constantly, but it's really getting old. I think it would be great if a new conflict arose, one that didn't involve taint v light.
The current RP for Celest leaves little flexibility. You're either pro-light/anti-taint, or vice versa. There's not much room for middle ground without being a part of one of the communes. If a citizen of Celest starts saying, "Taint is okay, let's just leave it alone and find some thing else to fight over," that citizen would most likely get kicked out and enemied for not being a Light zealot. There's just no room for flexibility in Celest. And because of this, RPing in Celest is very dull. "Go Light, kill taint." gets old after a while.

oddly enough, I agree with Rauros. I don't know how it would work out though

BOGGLE
Narsrim2006-07-17 04:25:32
Why can't Magnagora just go away? Wouldn't it achieve the same effect?
Unknown2006-07-17 04:27:00
Don't worry, I'll fix Celest. I just need Bandeon and a few months.
Forren2006-07-17 04:30:21
The answer to the topic?
No.
No.

Rubbing up against people will not do it. It almost got you killed when you did it to Geb.
Joli2006-07-17 05:07:18
As much as I dislike the people -within- the city I seriously down they are going to just drop Celest.. since it plays a huge part in the history of the basin.
Edit: And no, Geb isn't one of the people I dislike in Celest. He's one of the only reasons I stayed so long. >_>;;

It doesn't need to "go away" It needs people that are willing to change the rules in postions of people. Unfortunately there are enough people that like the "OMGTAINTDIENOWKTHXBAI" to quickly usher those people out of office.
And seeing as half of the Aquamancers (those I think should be less light inclined) left to join the Celestines or Paladins I guess people really do enjoy the die taint way of life.
I mean I'm all for die taint but not just because it's taint. Because they're always attacking water and killing me or other aquamancers. You can't say there's no reason for people constantly being attacked by one side to suddenly decide that side is alright. Nevermind the fact that Celest is te reason taint was created so the belief is we should be the ones to ge rid of it.
If you really want celest to go away then you need Magnagora to go away.

No. My guild is there.
People that have been gone too long and those that are still new are the same in a certain way: They complain about things they choose not to help improve on.
I believe that pushing out all the whiners out of the city would be a good solution, though not necessary, they leave sooner or later anyway and it makes the place that little bit better.
If ever the ones in the background that work hard to fix things get tired too, then I do wish the Aquamancers get a new city, some underwater one probably! I could do less with Light teachings, they restrict quite a lot that only the few really cool guys can live up to it.

Rauros i think you have forgot that Celest haev inner fights from really long and its nothing new now.
Personally i even like those inner fights somehow. SOmetimes i hate them cose people questioning your actions but it also gives a litlle depth to life. I would love to see Celest going despotism with one truly leader and no Council but it wont gona happen so i will just deal harsh with opposers.
Ekard wont be so nice and quite anymore when he will be back. Ekard is sick of those inner fights, we have to teach people where is their place. We need more discipline.
We get it in place and we wont see much yelling about how its unfair that we killed our enemy in neutral territory. And Ohh Maganagora isnt that bad i have friends there. And so on.
Answer on something like that should be, why dont you go and join your friends then?? And kick him right after that.

No reason for Celest to go away. Its problems were player created. Solutions will be too. That's the beauty of a dynamic world. No reason to be here otherwise.
Revan2006-07-17 06:37:48
Celest has been a problem for... well, since open beta. if it's still this badly out of shape after all this time, I don't see what can change.

We're talking a series of different problems, not the same problem throughout. No one is expected to be problem-free. I mean...Magnagora's had problems since open beta. Serenwilde's had problems since open beta. I say we let Glomdoring conquer them all. Woot for an org actually fulfilling their mission!
Viravain2006-07-17 07:51:13
I'm 99% certain Estarra has already said that we would never destroy a player organization. There will always be people attached to it, or at least, the skills and things tied to it.
Ekard2006-07-17 07:52:56
And there is no need to destroy Celest.
Some people enjoy challenges.
PS. Yes i know that im weird.

Thing is, if you even suggest that, let alone ostracize 'em, the next steps are:
- Target Person is shocked and declares that they love being what they are now (read: they love having their current skillset), so of course they wouldn't want to leave to go join another organization. They do still dislike/oppose their current organization's ways of doing things and beliefs, meanwhile.
- Target (and/or other people on their behalf) is outraged at being kicked out. Expect complaints about their unique RP being quashed, and how horrible you are for expecting them to abide by rules and live up to official RP-of-organization expectations.
And yes, I speak from experience.
I very much agree with your statement about situations needing more discipline and needing "to teach people where is their place." The difficulty there is complaints about "imposing" things on people and "restricting" them to "stagnant RP," and subsequent refusals to learn or care about the organizational unity because it's perceived as "conforming" or stereotypical.
Try it anyway, though, and g'luck.
Ekard2006-07-17 08:53:15
Its ok for them to have their own RP. From some time now im on retirement and i dont fight ( not counting few staffcasts here or there) but you can say that im pacifist and i wasnt telling other people that they shouldnt fight, shouldnt kill our enemies etc.
People can discuse but why they haev to do it so loud on Celest channel in worst possible time?
More discipline! It will be my new motto now i think.
