Not by definition. Auseklis was pretty big on saying that nature could take care of itself. By the same token, there's nothing forcing them to stop taking care of it. It's going to have to be a player choice.

Yeah, nature could take care of itself beyond mortal intervention.. so he hated the cities.

But I don't see how it being able to take care of itself means that the Serenwilde doesn't value its existence?

I just loathe hypocracy. Glomdoring's players keep saying how unique and special they are, how different they are from everyone else, and how much better they are because of these differences. But... what differences? The wyrd is just a word, so don't give me that tongue.gif

That's completely twisting what I said, Shorlen. I never said we're "special", I argued that we're unique (as in, not a cheap knockoff), in response to Elryn's charge that we were imitating Serenwilde. And I certainly would never argue that we are "better" in any way - I have no idea what that even means.

Once again: Glomdoring has a much darker feel (atmosphere and culture) than Serenwilde. It's a theocratic dictatorship led basically by a couple of people with Viravain's approval, in contrast to Serenwilde's democracy. (People can and do argue about leadership decisions in Serenwilde, which doesn't fly at all in Glomdoring.) It's isolationist and xenophobic, which Serenwilde is not. The teachings of the Great Spirits are wildly different: ruthless, about intrigue, subterfuge, manipulation, vicious self-control and deliberate self-delusion. Viravain's vision is paramount. If we're not more expansionist, it's because we lack the offensive power for it, and that will hopefully change with time.

Yes, IC we're going to tell you the differences are minimal, because we're trying to lessen a conflict we can't keep up with. That's propaganda, and you shouldn't buy it OOC. As someone who's had characters in both, I have no idea how you can say the two Communes are similar, in any respect. I can only imagine you haven't tried playing a Glom character recently.

Here's a nice litmus test: do you think you could perform a ritual that involves taking out someone's eyes, killing her and feeding her to one of the Great Spirits in Serenwilde? Can you picture rotten meat in any way in a Seren ceremony? How about an experiment that involves radically mutating some plant or tree into something gruesome and carnivorous, but which thrives in growth? Can you punish a Commune member for being outspoken against a leader's decision by execution? These are fairly heavy-handed examples, but if done tastefully, they would fit in just fine in Glomdoring; I cannot picture them at all in Serenwilde. These are marks of ideological, not aesthetic, differences. How much more different can two places get, RP-wise?

Objectively speaking, I can feel for Serenwilde players' frustration. The path to self identity is difficult. However personal understanding requires more of inner reflection rather then external comparison.

If I may suggest; Serenwilde players should ignore Glomdoring altogether and focus their energies more positively, inwards, in enriching the Serenwilde experience. After observing the quality of players active in Serenwilde, I am confident Serenwilde may flourish regardless of what the rest of the Basin may do.

It is difficult. It is frustrating. But hang in there. Imagine what would happen if Serenwilde players in unison gave up their passion for Serenwilde. Lusternia would be a lesser place.
