Asylum quest: Everyone but the admin recognises that this is bugged (or so I have heard from bug reports).
The only way that could possibly be true is if the various bug reports we have received have been imprecise and unhelpful. So, you know what to do.

Trek through a one hour long quest including puzzle and a hunting part that must be done by someone else so that you can get to the exact situation where the same quest mob still refuses to do anything. I've tried giving mob-number, current situation, apparent hinder that stops you from giving the quest item... what more do you need?

Some questions:
1. So we have Tosha and the Kephera hives as good bashing/influencing areas on prime. Are there any other influencing areas of equivalent quality?
2. Are those influencing runes still sold? Cause I can't find them in the help files
3. Not completely on topic, but how does one get clothes that decrease your prestige below normal for charity attacks?

1. Illithoid work too. Guards are supposed to be good influencing.
B. Yes, as far as I know, but I hear they're basically one less attack per a mob, so not completely worth it.
3. You keep mending them until they look like

<3 good replies.
I guess with this war heating up it would be a good time to help make sure the guards are buffed

How updated is the list?

Okay, I hope this isn't considered necromancy, as it's a sticky thread.
I play a Shadowsinger Faeling. At around level 46 (I'm 50 now), I went to kill orcs in Shallach for experience, because several people suggested that would be a good spot. I could not defeat orc archers; they break shields, and I cannot seem to outheal them. Felicia has enchanted greatrobes, healing potions, a Mercy enchantment, uses all available Acrobatics/other buffs (those that apply to combat, certainly), and at the time, had about 450 lessons in Music/Shadowbeat, 200 in Acrobatics, and 2200 hp.
It could be that I was doing something wrong, but I don't think so... it's pretty straightforward: Attack as often as possible, heal as often as possible, spam clot, cure afflictions as soon as possible, and (if they don't break shields) use shields when in trouble.
Now I'm pretty sure I can handle the "weaker" orc types, but I'm definitely afraid to try archers, elders, or other mystery types that I don't yet know about that might kill me, without my being able to do anything about it. The experience loss is pretty steep, and I don't really know any healers yet who can help me experiment.
The reason this all concerns me isn't that I died, but rather, that Shallach is listed as being for Level 31+ on the guide... yet I couldn't survive against all of the orcs even at level 46. Is it because I'm a Shadowsinger Faeling? Or do you think I might be doing something wrong?

Don't be afraid to move away and heal if you take damage.

I'm not afraid to move away, but if a crippling affliction hits at a bad time, or I'm off equilibrium, or seemingly any number of other things, it can stop me leaving the room before I'm killed. That's usually what happens when I try to run... I realize I'm dying, and right as I'm moving to push the hotkey to move away, I get put to sleep or my legs get broken or something.
I guess I need practice running away, but I think I need a healer for that... or get a curing system, I suppose.
Still, should I really need to run away in that area at my level?

Yeah, sometimes you just do.

This is especially true as a faeling. You may also want to look into the other three core enchants (Mercy, perfection, and beauty).
If you're on Nexus client and can't outright code your own autosipper, consider aliasing sh, sm, and sb to 'sip health' 'sip mana' and 'sip bromides', respectively, as well as something like making 'heal' do 'PLAY MAJORTHIRD AT ME', and ATK to do "PLAY MINORSECOND AT &tar" with another to set the value for 'tar'. HELP ALIASES can give you more specific details on the whereto and the whyfor, but generally anything that makes it so you can input vital commands faster is going to help keep you alive.
Esano2010-04-09 08:45:36
You should realise you're in danger before the next attack will kill you - just move away earlier. Orcs don't chase.
The shamans are also the only ones that give afflictions, so avoid them and the orc warriors (the braves should be fine) until later.

You're also a faeling. A shadowsinger faeling. Hunting may not be for you until...level 70? Influencing, though, you are the pro.

Well, I'd read that bards were a fairly decent bashing class, and I suppose I didn't realize that my health total would play such an important role in bashing. I figured Acrobatics, a high Dexterity score, and high Charisma/faster eq would make up the difference, or mostly, anyway. As it turns out, though, low-skill Acrobatics is next to useless against mobiles, a high Dexterity doesn't seem to matter at all when bashing, and the high Charisma/faster eq aren't effective enough to make a difference if the mobile hits me hard and fast enough. Killing them in 11 seconds instead of 14 seconds is meaningless if they can kill me in 9 seconds.
I only recently realized that health potions and healing enchantments restore a percentage range of total HP, not a flat number — which makes a ton of sense. There's only one type of standard healing potion in Lusternia, and if it healed Demigods for the same amount as it heals a circle 20 neophyte, I imagine some people would be quite miffed.
That being said, once I bond with my instrument (and perhaps start having it etched), put some serious lessons into Shadowbeat (and/or Acrobatics), hone my curing system, and work on my retreating skills, I'm sure I'll be much better off.
You bring up a good point, though: Shadowsinger Faelings are probably the single best race/guild combo in the game for Influencing. I'm just not sure whether I want to put serious lessons into it. However, it sounds to me like it adds variety and an alternative option to bashing (plus my character should be quite good at it), so I may go ahead and do that.

Add in a healing scroll, some sparkleberry, and a few more general defenses to increase your survivability.
Unknown2010-04-09 12:48:49
Oh! You have an unbonded instrument? That's going to affect your bashing. Bonded instruments, as well as a higher Music/Shadowbeat skill adds to the damage of your MinorSecond (I think - at least, I know this was the deal when I was a bard.) When you get higher/transcendent in Music/Shadowbeat, Acrobatics, and Illusions/Glamours, you'll find yourself a very efficient basher and influencer.
Lendren2010-04-09 13:25:45
A karmic Life blessing can mean very little to some races but for a faeling it can be essential. I'd rank it first amonts the blessings to spend your karma on, in fact, if you intend to hunt or fight.

Oh, I hadn't a clue that sparkleberries bestowed an extra "layer" of healing. Thank you!
Scrolls require equilibrium, though, don't they? And what other general defenses are available? I'm not quite sure where to look.

Yes, but it's at 98% aptitude now, so I'm really close. I'll also likely get a bunch of lessons soon from the magic Visa fairy, thanks to that sale, and tri-trans guild skills are foremost on the list.

Good point. I recently got the Harmony blessing (simply because I was at 100% karma and didn't wish to keep wasting karma gained from quests), but it's of limited use since I don't have many reliable hunting grounds available yet (due not only to my circle/lesson count, but also ignorance of the full range of options).

Scrolls work on their own balance.
As far as defenses go, just go through every single skill you have. It's generally pretty easy to tell which are defs and which aren't.

Healing scrolls don't. They have their own balance. I've never used other scrolls.

I bought all these enchantments and use them every time I def up:
- acquisitio: pick up things automatically
- beauty: regenerate ego
- deathsight: tells you where people die
- kingdom: some automatic clotting
- levitate: prevents falling damage, and probably other stuff
- mercy: regenerate heath
- perfection: regenerate mana
- waterbreathe: breathe underwater
- waterwalk: walk on water

Make good use of the "faux-sparkles" (i.e. the herb that has the Nature Crown blessing - currently Coltsfoot) for a cheap version of Sparkleberry. Domoth blessings tend to go away regularly though, so it's not certain it will always work.
