I've noticed most areas I hunt in at 78 give me 5% experience on a full run, which is not exactly much. Chaining areas would work, but then there is the issue of vial refills. Using about 3-5 vials per area I'm not sure if I should just get more vials or not. Would it be considered odd to carry 20 of them rather than the 5 I got now? Or should I just get a keg and carry that around with me?
As a note, I carry around 100 vials, and 0 of them are healing.
Back when I had to buy healing I think I had about twenty of them just because of how quickly I went through them. Nowadays I imagine you could get away with five and a keg (carrying around a keg of healing to refill your healths from might make sense, especially if you put a rune on it).

Yeah, cause you're like, one of the only people who has a bottomless health vial!

That was intended more as a point that carrying around a ton of vials is not unexpected / unusual.
Razenth2010-08-14 05:04:18
Oh yes, point taken. As a note, I carry 50, two of most cures, and 5 of health, bromide and mana. I don't really bash much though, though I also have a few empties to fill as the situation requires.
Why 50? Because that's the max you can group of an item

So with the new zones introduced, any chance the list can be updated?
I'm also circle 81 shadowsinger faeling. Fabled Resilience, virt acrobatics, trans shadowbeat. Where should I hunt to circle up? Lately I've been only influencing, but I want to do something other than quinotaurs by myself. So where to?

More quinotaurs. I bashed them until I hit 86. I will probably go back to bashing them in a few days.
And apparently the undervault is place to go if you get tired of them.

If you feel adventurous, there's always Mount Dio and the Catacombs too, but depending on your archetype/race, those might be more dangerous than solo astral.

Hunting before mid 90's, especially as a non monk/warrior, is silly. Your guild/race are the -gods- of influence. Abuse it constantly. You should be running an endless loop of illithoid when you want mad experience, and tosha/kephera for the cash. For your race/guild especially, influencing the great seal will actually outstrip -aetherhunting- until your high 80's and early 90's. Ugh, shadowsinger faeling charisma makes me sick and disgusted.
Aymee2011-10-25 15:19:01
I've had it. EVERY SINGLE TIME I leave my city to try to get experience I DIE AND END UP WASTING THE DAY I STARTED. EVEN IF I DON'T FIGHT ANYTHING AND JUST INFLUENCE.
And not dying because of carelessness or inattentiveness. Dying to things that take half or more of my health, can't escape, can't pentagram, anything.
Ever since I got to level 70 everything either gives me a pittance of experience or kills me outright.
EVEN IF I FOLLOW CITY HUNTING GUIDES I get killed horribly.

And it doesn't help that this 'pray for salvation' nonsense takes forever, is incredibly spamtastic, and is even more of a spiteful punishment for not having spend hundreds of dollars on artifacts.
Aymee2011-10-25 15:21:56
Oh look, I lost the 50% I gained today. Which means I was a complete idiot for even trying.
Calixa2011-10-25 21:14:09
First off, calm down. We've all been there. Ranting isn't going to fix your problem. Walk it off, then come back with a clear head.
Ok, secondly, you're going to have to tell us what you are dying to. And what you are doing to prevent it.
Thirdly, what is your influencing skill at? You're level 70, so you should have all three influencing attacks. If not, those are your absolute priority. Stop thinking about leveling and start looking into ways to get these credits. Arts / bardic, city initiatives, influencing easier stuff (begging runs through Monastery, Dell, villages, ect.). Get yourself sorted with that.
Once that is done, your next step in line is Undervault influencing. You're going to need a way to get past all the nasty aggressive things down there. Kephera hives are easier, but may not work depending on what city you are a part of. The Illithoid Prison is harder, more rewarding, but a bigger pain to get to.
So get yourself sorted with the realm map and look at the hives. To get there, you want to squint (learn if not already known!) ahead before moving. I've keybinded the directions to ctrl+alt+numpad and move with the numpad. Highlight fisher(s) and mantis (forgot the plural) and maybe even centipede(s) because they sometimes aggro too. Squint before ever moving in a direction. Because if you run into 3 fishers, you're dead. Hell I'm level 93 and 3 fishers means I gtfo. If a route looks bad, you wait or you move around it.
Prison is easiest from the sea of despair. Lowest level in the bottom middle there is an entrance down. Follow it and you will end up in illwater lake. From there it is east south south-east down all the way and in. The creatures in illwater lake are a fucking pain, anything that can absorb a blow or help you with a health buffer or makes you more tanky works here. If you have any teleportation ability like bards have their waypoint thingies, you will want to use that. Once you are in there though it is influence heaven. Just weaken everything.
Death prevention is all good and well, but you also want to buff the crap out of yourself. Use every damn influence buff you can get your hands on. Wet fold, karma, oil, clothing / jewelry, god realm buffs, throne, and the list goes on. And keep a stock of bromides (having your own keg is a not a crazy idea) and needles. The less you have to leave the less you can die. Don't be shy to ask for a teleport target in your city to avoid risking death on the way out. I used to not do this because I thought people would get tired of it, but honestly people mind more if you die a whole lot Dx
Lastly, depending on which org you are in, there are ways to prevent praying. Do not be shy to ask about them. Another mistake I used to make. It make take some trouble but anyone who's died during leveling knows what a pain it is and should be willing to help you if they can unless they are total asshats, or just too damn busy, or just afk in which case try later (I feel bad when I see people didn't get a seed because I was not paying attention >_<).
That's all I can say for now. Good luck, and if you still struggle, provide more info and someone should be able to help you out. Please don't get too frustrated :(

Well thanks for the reply! Seriously, you can tell I'm very frustrated. I've put a fair amount of time into this game, and once I hit 70 it suddenly got no fun at all.
I did try going into the undervault once... my guild docs suggested it at my level, but yeah, I died. Rapidly. So much damage, so quickly, I couldn't remotely heal it fast enough. I don't see how I can conceivably get past all the things that are there!
I just... I'm just running out of options here. Nothing works. I can't get any progress, at all. I'll only be able to fund the influencing bromides from my gold stash for so long...
Oh great, now I just found out I was already under an experience boost, so where I thought I was breaking even... I was actually behind. *sigh*
As far as making myself less fragile, I feel like I'm doing everything I can, stoneskin and element shield and psiarmor and rubbing enchantments and having a bodyguard phoenix and things like that. I still get killed, rapidly, by basically anything that's on any list of anything I should be dealing with near my level.
Even sharks, I used to risk dealing with them, but one lag spike and I'm dead. Enough wasted days with those and I gave up.
Even if I just stick areas I thought were safe, like the top of the sea or the roads, I seem to run the risk of running into horrible things out of the blue. Killer pilgrims. And some really crazy things whose names I don't even remember, might have been miasma related, I was too busy hoping to get away before dying, which for once I actually managed to do, just barely. Pretty sure I was one hit away, deep in red.
So anything I do has to give me experience at a rate that will overcome all of these things, and even being under double god favor plus a blessing doesn't seem to be enough. With all that I'm only breaking even.
So yeah, I think you hit it on the head at the start. It's all about credits...

Enyalida2011-10-25 23:34:39
Credits don't really help you level, unless you are warrior (I guess). The number of artifacts that can help you survive bashing are few and far between and very expensive, to the point you don't want to buy them until you have EVERYTHING else you want already.
The trick is both to get alternate (non-praying) ways to revive, and to keep track of where you feel safe to bash. Gaudiguch's revive does involve getting to your body, which is annoying. Find out who is often around in Gaudiguch who is okay with reviving using their fleshmound, and make friends with them. Work out an agreement to grind flesh from the nexus quest to fuel their reviving you, because it does cost some resource.
I do not suggest making use of and sticking to a guild or city list of hunting grounds. These things are generally written by the stronger people trying to remember where they hunted when and that's not always so accurate. In addition, it generally assumes you have a good autocuring system that handles a lot of the backround work of grinding for you. Make sure you've got up defenses that give you more dmp or increase your health values, like kirigami and constitution platters. Be quick on the gtfo! Be prepared at any moment to just flat out ditch, and know which direction is safe to do so in (usually the way you just came). If you are hunting Krokani in the Moors (good place to hunt, btw), and a big clump walks in, move immediately! Same if guard ents summon. Those follow, so a good strategy is to either hightail it out of the area, if you are in danger, or move to a place you can kill them alone. Alternately, hunt in groups!
If you are a decent cha class, and have some lessons invested into influencing, influence guards. They are stationary, safe, and decent xp and esteem, which you should sell for the gold. Check to make sure your robes are fully enchanted, and get appropriate proofings.

I'd like to echo what Enyalida said about the lists. Keep in mind that as an elfen you may be somewhat squishier than the average gaudiguchian, so you might want to drop 10 levels or so on the recommended list.
I've found quests to be an undervalued way of amassing experience.
And, if you're constantly running into frustrations with grinding for xp, pick a different goal. You mentioned finite gold and needing more bromides, so you might try focusing on earning gold instead. Beg from things that are considered too easy (Caoimhe Dell, Tosha, maybe wydyr glade), run village comm quests, figure out more village honour quests, and you may find that your xp goes up faster than when you were focusing it.
Use some of that gold to buy credits to learn aethercrafting, and see if you can get better modules on aetherhunts and get more experience that way as well.
Edit to add: If you don't have squint, I would DEFINITELY advise getting it. It's only a few lessons in environment, and it makes going around the UV a lot safer since you can look to see if there's a cave fisher around before you move into the room. If there is, move in and out as fast as you can and you should be able to avoid being hit. Then once you get to a hive you should be fine. Assuming you're going to influence and aren't enemied or anything.

First off again, thank you for the replies.
So many comments.
And to be honest, I haven't found anyplace that's safe. Seems like there are things that do huge damage to me everywhere. Well, except for in the city. So if I just never, ever, ever leave the city, I can probably squeak by.
The city hunting lists are useless. I have to drop so many levels that I'm gaining so little experience that when I do get killed I'm not breaking even. That's my problem here: I keep dying and it wipes out everything I do. Not sure how to avoid praying though. I can't seem to communicate or even see who's online when dead.
So let me ask something flat out. 3296 health. Is that lower than I realize? That's my max. And I have no idea what I can do about that basic fact.
