Maybe we should open Aetherspace up a little then... maybe give each guild a 3 room Aethership (Command Chair, Energy Collector, a room designed by the guildmaster) so the people who'll never manage to afford one can try sailing. (Aetherspacing?) And have it conrolled entirely by the guild, so you have to ask a secratary or high to be able to borrow it for a while
Unknown2006-07-21 15:48:20
Dunno about other guilds, but Aquamancers already have a 5/6 room one. I forget the exact number.
Hazar2006-07-21 15:51:24
Aye, so do the Blacktalon, and the Geomancers. For that matter, you can probably borrow a ship - most cities/communes have a dozen or so amongst their citizens.

so everyone has one to use but me?
Exarius2006-07-21 16:23:39
My thinking on colonies when I brought them up was as a way to provide a completely new method of conflict which could be thought out from scratch, rather than sticking with the same old grind that's been causing so much interplayer dischord.
Like the colonizing of the Americas by the powers of Europe, it could provide endless sources of both conflict and accomplishment that didn't directly impact on the borders of the various mother lands.
And, no, Verithrax, the harvested resources couldn't be absolutely indispensable, because that would mean another life or death struggle where the admins couldn't allow any group to fail. Just like getting your character to level five zillion is ultimately about the bragging rights, so any conflict left to resolve itself without constant admin intervention must be.
so everyone has one to use but me?
Scrounge together 600 K and your problem is solved.
There's no point in having a game if you're not going to have cool goals to work for, is there? Instant gratification is sooooo overrated.

I just can't accept colonization 'just because'. There has to be some economic incentive to it. It's unrealistic to expect people to colonize Aetherspace, which is dangerous, unwieldy, and expensive to travel through, for no reason.
Unknown2006-07-21 16:32:26
600K ...I'll never manage to get that.... back to whats on hand.
The colonies should simply have the normal resouces and one Aetherstone per bubble (anyone have an idea for a use ???) , then have the bubbles randomly open and close, so that there'll never be a sure time when to sit and wait for the stone. And if you do sit outside where the bubble should be until in invaribly opens, you'l be attacked by other ships, animals and if your real unlucky an aetherstorm.

The only high-value commodity in the Basin seems to be Power. Nobody would spend Power to mantain a colony for no reason other than coolness.
The only reason Power is so high-value is because of artifical restrictions on supply. We've been stockpiling since beta.
Diamondais2006-07-21 16:47:46
Were always at a loss for some commodities, thatd be a pretty good incentive right there. Colonies were started to claim new lands and to bring in the riches of the new world. Outside Basin would be nicer I think, more access.
Unknown2006-07-21 16:59:04
Prehaps that would be what a Aetherstone could be for Offer stone for Power in nexus?
It'd be more realistic to keep it in Aetherspace, but I'd like it to have it outside the basin so that I could actually go there!

I would much rather if colonies in aetherbubbles were slowly built, draining power as they were expanded and the commune/city could decide on the formation of the bubble with certain power costs being attributed to each development.
So if your org decided you wanted more of a certain material you could spend the power to generate a colony where that and a few other materials could be gained.
However because it's not actually a village and it exists in aetherspace it would be very cool if they were lootable, So Glomdoring could fly ships over to Celests wood/mineral/etc producing colony and perhaps use a new ship module to steal away commodities from the colony.
The same module could be used by members of the org to transport the commodities to and from the colony probably encouraging orgs to make ships that are available to it's younger members so they can do such runs often preventing major losses?

See! If the Divines (admins) did that they'd have more credit sales as people tried to get what they needed to do raids and aethersteals.
Of course, the Colonies would have Armed docks (like what was being discussed ... somewhere) that can only be fired on when manned and cannot be docked at while the cannons are still manned, and otherwise is just a dock.

Or itll just become something that will never be used by anyone but those who have both the IC and OOC money and patience it takes to afford a lot of these things.
Unknown2006-07-21 17:13:58
You're not much of an optimist
Unknown2006-07-21 17:18:24
This idea is quite interesting, perhaps the Divine already have something like it in mind, in essence it would be an Aetherspace Village, with a few differences. I would love more reasons to go to Aetherbubbles! I quit going to Crumkindivia since they hurt Cookies so much.
And if you live in Celest you should have NO problems finding a Ship. The city has many. Just ask around.

No, Im really not a lot of the time.
I like the ideas put forth, its just so many things seemed to be aimed towards those who have the ability to buy lots of credits OOC and itd be nice to see more things that dont cost huge amounts of money RL or gold IG. Its not going to be my call regardless, just..think about it. How many people would actually use this if it was put into Aetherspace?
The people who can afford aetherships. Im just trying to say if it accepted as a viable idea and placed in the game, itd be better in a place that everyone can reach and use and doubly better so as a place for midlevel questers and bashers. Maybe Im the one asking for too much.

Yay!!! Someone else has a good feeling about this too! Such fun We just need to ...expand on the idea some It's time to meet Pirate Captian Kittysocks ... I mean Captian Ralina
Edit: But Diamondias like said above, people do have Aetherships thier willing to lend out...

It still comes down to who has the training for Aethercraft? Who has the lessons to spare when they could be put towards something more useful? Who is going to want to pilot someone around Aetherspace to get to these places because that person cant fly?
But whatever, majority rules.

Unknown2006-07-21 17:32:42
-Puts her hand up- I've "Wasted" lessons in aethercraft, maybe if this was all in Lusty, maybe Aethercraft wouldn't be a waste
I've got it Diamondais! A way for people without Aethercraft to get there! (and for you to be happy, I want as many people as possible happy ) Links from nexuses to thier Colonies... like entering manses just for the city Then there can be no raiding through the short route, and everyone wil be able to visit the bubbles Good?

Im sorry for not agreeing, it just doesnt seem such a great idea to me. Its different for others. I never said wasted, and never implied it. Others choose to put whatever spare lessons they can so that they can learn to hunt or pvp better. Whatever floats your boat. Id be a bit upset if this were to happen and happen in Aetherspace because a lot of people would never see it.
Yes, your added bit would be nice.
