Tae'dae aren't quite as invincible as people make out. They're just as vulnerable to instakills as anyone else, are far easier to hinder than others (making them more vulnerable to most instakills), and cannot withstand much magic damage. They're great against mage and knight damage killers and not much else.
However, in group combat, your partner can help get you out of insta-kill harm when you're bound (gust, for instance, on the user or the tae'dae).
As for magic damage, you're wrong. Tae'dae are still as tanky, if not more so, than someone without magic weakness because of their high con and lvl 3 sip. Plus, all warriors have magic resistance, Paladins/Ur'guard also have Draconis, and Paladins further have Numen. Plus, if you're in a group battle, you can switch to Magic-proofed great robes and suffer very little in terms of a penalty, since you're going be getting hit with so much anyway.
A tae'dae can easily hold their own against magic damage, to put it simply.

That would take some insane coordination.

They can, but not nearly as well as they can against other damage types - I've spoken to several Changelings and whatnot, and a couple of wiccans or guardians can, if not utterly destroy a Tae'dae, at least nullify his 'OMGTANK' status. Nihilists especially... omen, point symbol, bam! And if you focus spirit you're screwed for mana, which combined with your huge size could leave you open to wrack... hell, sacrifice, epilepsy is death to a Tae'dae.

Which is something that Mag has, for instance, and is the reason they dominate in group combat.

Which is why I suggested raising their INT as well. And in group combat, insta-kills like that aren't quite as easy to pull off, if only because of the spam-factor. Now, in group-vs-tae'dae, its different, but in group+tae'dae -vs-group, the tae'dae doesn't have much more to worry about than anyone else. He's there to protect people from direct damage, I think its fair and balanced that people would have to watch his back for insta-kills

say target the tae'dae last
Ta da! Their edge is lost!

Guardians >>> Tae'dae.
Seriously, with the huge size, their tumble will take forever to get out of the way of timed instakills (judgement/soulless) and they're immensely suceptible to mana kills (absolve/wrack) because of the incredibly low int.

Ridiculously susceptible to mana kills.
That last free-for-all was sad. I had to go re-evaluate my race/career choice after that. Amissio... what, four times?

3 amissios brings ANY RACE below half provided they don't sip or regenerate. It's percentage based.

Thus the suggestion to RAISE The INT. Then they won't be so suscieptable to mana instant kills. Because remember many skills that are needed for curing have SET mana costs.
the issue of target tae'dae last, is sovled by changing bearhug ot Protect., which automatically targets the tae'dae when he protecting a specific target.
It would definitly keep the tae'dae unique. Estarra once said that the Tae'dae was an experiment in High damage, and tankiness but slow attack, and that would still be true, but now they would also be able to protect others.

They're still not good, even with more int. As slow as they are, it's hard to hinder your opponents offense. If I can just keep hexing and lashing you and making you focus, you're not going to survive.

Ok, but how many cudgels (champion cudgel + arti) does it take to kill a completely non-functioning sapped tae'dae? 15?
