Two major gripes about this summit...
1. Everyone was whining about the Song quest and saying how they still have it resetting Fae even though the Gorgog and Sea quests had been nerfed, but what everyone seems to have forgotten is the Carai Caroo quest. Here's a quest, forgotten though it may be, that directly hurts Celest and ONLY Celest if it's fully completed. If the Mutant Kelpies are released, Baby Turtles can't be born, which makes it impossible for the Sea Battle to be won. You may say that this is useless because the Sea quests don't effect anyone anymore, but it's severely annoying nonetheless. Has been ever since the Jeitara Event.
2. The Communes and essence gathering. Namely, the idea of opening the Fire and Air planes. The Furies kept saying that it wouldn't happen, but I really have to ask, why the hell not? There's no reason that adding new elemental planes would require an accompanying Cosmic Plane and City. And besides, there are potential direct entrances from Faethorn to both Fire and Air. The written histories namely describe how the Elemental planes had to be discovered before their cities or Cosmic planes were founded, why can't they be re-discovered? Make it an event involving the Mesa and the Nomads! Bring them to Faethorn! Have them forge a path to the elemental planes! Like I said, they don't need accompanying cities, Cosmic planes, or skillsets right away, just make them free bashing grounds.
I regret not being able to be there. I would've brought these up there.

Because the battle between Gaudiguch and Hallifax was being fought on both the Vortex and the elementa Plane of Fire. The projects that each city had which combined to cause the removal from time was projected through their Nexii, which caused the planes to be sealed off along with the cities.. though, I suppose you could argue that only the Nexus rooms would be, since Mag and Celest have no power beyond them. But that wouldn't explain why the survivors didn't just tesserect out if the gates were destroyed. Eh.. still, it would be problematic.

Good point, but look at the opening of the Elemental Planes as resolving a big part of the backstory of Hallifax/Gaudiguch. Admins would have to make up their minds as to which theory they are going to support and as to how the story turns out and moves forward. I foresee two scenarios, based on the most popular theories.
1. We reach Fire and Air and find them abandoned and desolate, void of sentient life. This of course, would reveal that time and the war between Hallifax and Gaudiguch continued on for those trapped inside the cities until they both died out.
2. We reach Fire and Air and by doing so, reunite ONLY the Elemental planes to reality. All the Hallifaxians/Gaudiguchians there were frozen in time and they are still fighting. This would obviously need to resolve (potentially exciting and engaging interaction!) before the two sides realize what's going on and stop fighting. At which point the surviving NPCs would most likely end up teaming with their respective side (Mesa/Nomad) and go back to the desert to continue the quest to free the cities, leaving the elemental planes as is.
Either of these is doable, and us Hallifax/Gaudiguch supporters haven't gotten any Event love in a LONG time. A huge event like this would restore a lot of player's spirits.

How about we just reached a CONTINENT of the Fire/wind planes
have it that we just found the "mountain of madness" and "Sea of stars" versions of Air and Fire plane.. with their Own Elemental Lords either frozen in time or lost or whatever and have it that we get every time and time some "connection" with Air and Fire outside of the continents we just discovered, via some random log or something from the battle or after from random soldiers of the lost cities. So we can have -some- hope regarding Gaudiguch and Hallifax.

Tekora, the communes have totems. Your essence argument fails. The end.

Then NERF TOTEMS.
Argument stands. Solves essence problem. Throws Hallifax/Gaudiguch supporters a bone. We just want to know that we're not forgotten!

Also, you're wrong. The cities were founded before the planes were discovered - they were discovered after the nexuses were raised.
Then NERF TOTEMS.

All this would do is make Hallifax/Gaudiguch followers happy for a week. So what? A lot of effort and nothing changes. Not to mention that it makes no sense to bring any planes back without the cities.

From the website.
One place that was little touched by the ascendancy of the forests in the Basin of Life was the island of Celest in the Crystal Sea, small companion ocean to the Great Inner Sea within the Basin. Predominantly merian, a seaborn race, they built a great city upon the island. Their quest was to heal the waters of the sea and they did so by reaching upward or outward, seeking the elemental vibrations of creation itself. The first mages were able to transverse the ethereal waves, where all matter was in flux. Thus, they found the elemental plane of water, where they mastered the art of Aquamancy. These Aquamancers were able to cleanse the oceans and seas, their mastery over the element of water equal to the mastery of druids over the forests. (They founded the city, and discovered the elemental plane)
The Communes first greeted the cleansing of the waters with joy, but then looked on with skepticism as the mages plundered further and deeper into other planes of existence, traveling through the ethereal plane and tapping into other planes of power. (Got there through Faethorn?)
Within the City of Celest, the Aquamancers and Celestines channeled the power of the planes they commanded into the city itself, creating the Pool of Stars, liquid power from which all could draw from. Thus came the Paladins, Holy Warriors of the Light, who drank from the sacred pool and were granted miraculous powers. They were charged to safeguard these mystic waters. (Created the Nexus afterwards.)
According to this, it is theoretically possible to get to Elemental. But enough hijacking. I apoligize, and will try to move this argument to Ideas, where it will be disregarded as another 'Free Hallifax/Gaudiguch' thread.

Here come the Lost City crazies. Tekora, that log means nothing. They're all trapped by the same force and freeing the elemental planes just to appease the Lost City freaks would be an empty gesture. It would only keep them happy for a few days anyway. "OMG COOL LOOK AT ALL THIS... NOW WHERE THE HELL ARE THE COSMIC PLANES?!" ect.

The essence problem honestly isn't solved - we need essence to raise the Avatars. Unless all of a sudden all we need to do is wait five minutes for our insane totems to generate enough power to hop them back up.

Yeah.
Essence is needed to raise Avatars, to make silvery/shadowy honeycakes, and to get Nintoba's spear. Might be other ways it's needed or will be needed by the communes. I keep hoping that a way to get some essence from somewhere not attached near the cities will be discovered. Even if it's a crazily long process (a quest?) that only yields a few essence at a time when finally complete, just so it's possible without messing with the outer planes more. Anything beyond Ethereal is bad!
Tzekelkan2006-07-22 22:18:17
I am a Trill. I would not like Hallifax or Gaudiguch to be released any time soon. It wouldn't make sense from an OOC point of view, even though, from the IG point of view, it would make some sense.
However, releasing just the planes or just a continent of each plane is rather silly...

The avatars are so hard to kill that the difficulty in raising them is balanced, and Nintoba's spear is pretty much useless with the Hart/Crow cycle gone. Silvery/shadowy honeycakes can be tricky, yes, but they shouldn't be too easy to get.
