Too OOC?

Back to Common Grounds.

Ok, yeah yeah, I'm heavy into anime and Japanese language, so I'm making a curing/combat system as I learn more about Lusternia in zMUD. Have some triggers, taking stuff like equilibrium and balance gain, and making it more homey...

Question is, I was wondering if it was TOO OOC to order a thrall around in Japanese? In says?

Don't want to be flamed and bashed and whatnot if too many see it inappropiate...
Shiri2006-07-22 06:59:30
Yes, it is way too OOC. Qaletaqa didn't even get away with French.

Don't do it.

Ok, thanks. Just want to make things more RPish?

Would it be too annoying if it was like:

Eggplant says to a fiend, "Tear him asunder." everytime I used torture? Dunno, may seem lame to everyone, but I like the idea of ordering a thrall around with says...

That'd be fine. I always found it amusing when people did things like this. In a good way that is.
Rauros2006-07-22 07:06:54
Yes, don't overdo it. Things like that are fine. It's the "defup" says that annoy me.
Ekard2006-07-24 05:36:42
Rafael had some fancy triggers when he was using heretic/infidel/inquisition.

Amodea has (had?) some nifty little things like that for various things. It always makes me smile, adds some nice cute flavour.

Asmodea still has those. I saw one in Estelbar yesterday. It was cute since she doesn't do it all the time. happy.gif

But isn't French IC? I mean, Delport -is- a French village. The thing's just called Delportian.

Yeah. Percy get's away with "la moo-moo" and it says "Ooo la la!" in the short desciption for the lingerie skill. Problam with Qalateqa was that his name was nothing like anything French, and he never got any better. If you are being realistic, you should gradually start using more thes and less las . Also, he always said la. Never le or les.

Umm, maybe because English nouns don't have genders. tongue.gif
Unknown2006-07-24 09:51:41
I know that, but in French, masculine is used predominantly, and he still used la for plurals, where it should be les.
Shiri2006-07-24 10:04:45
The problem was that Delportoise is NOT French. It just uses a few similar words. It's an accent/dialect here, not a language.

Qale didn't talk only in French either, just some words... but I guess he did use more French words than the Delport villagers. *shrug*

So I guess... latin for deffing up is out of the question? tongue.gif

Oh here we go. All the base skills in Rituals apart from Encipher and Master are Latin >.<

Actually, he wrote a whole public post in french, and got yelled at promptly. Since I had nothing better to do, I looked it up: #226.

Some guy once called Latin the merian language. glare.gif

That's why I'm asking. So are those words considered in the "Common" tongue or in some crazy forgotten language from long ago that can be replaced by latin?

You can use Cabalistic Hewbrew and Latin though if you want.
Verithrax2006-07-24 17:05:44
Cabalistic Hebrew though is a sort of a stretch... Not sure I'd like to see Hebrew words besides the names of High Magic skills being used. And if you speak Yiddish in Lusternia, I'll poke you in the eye with a very sharp yad. Delportoise seems to be the only substantially different dialect of Common, although Stewartsville Common is a little more Cockneyish. As for the latin names of rituals, these could be anything. Maybe the old original Language of the early Holy Celestine Empire? Possibly, the Divine language (Although, Elcyrion messed that one up by using made-up and impossible to pronounce Divine.)
