You can use Cabalistic Hewbrew and Latin though if you want.

Uh... since when? Those are only used in a handful of skill names, and ought to be passed off simply as 'ancient magic words' or the like.

How about I use 19th century Polish stylised on 17th century old Polish? I'll last 30 seconds before a ban.

Na pochybel! Try to pronounce that.

Ancient magic words come from somewhere....

Even our fun to use "abra cadabra" comes from aramaic.

Dont think anything but what is known as Common should be used really, Deleport while sounds like its using French isnt, if they were they would not say La moo-moo as was mentioned above.

Just my opinion, and some others I guess as its been mentioned, dont speak the language ingame if you dont understand the proper grammer to it, or dont imitate it. And this whole thread just reminds me how I need to relearn French. Bahh..
Saran2006-07-25 15:00:01
heh, I wish I knew more of Lord Elcyrions language. I know... three words, but it would be cool to use that... hrm wonder if another divine knows some phrases

I'm going to have to make an Alt. just to bug everyone by speaking delportian tongue.gif

And I'm going to have to make a giant spoon.

So I can eat your soul.

Kidding, of course.

The latin names in Rituals mean really stupid things - like, Puella is girl, if my memory serves. Another is 'boy'. 'via' was the only one that made sense, if I remember correctly.
Hazar2006-07-26 00:35:08
The hebrew words didn't line up very logically with their highmagic spells, either.

Or...I could just be smoking.

Nevermind.

Laetitia Heal the ego.
Fortuna Call upon good fortune.
Puella Heal the body.
Draconis Cover your body with dragon scales.
Amissio Absorb the mental energy of others.
Puer Heal specific body parts.
Via Travel swiftly across Lusternia's highways.
Populus Increase your charismatic charm.
Conjuctio Command yourself a following.
Acquisitio Unconsciously pick up things around you.
Rubeus Focus your negative emotions.
Tristitia Sense how another protects himself.
Carcer Hinder the travel of others.

The only ones that don't make too much sense are Puer and Puella which mean boy and girl, respectively, and Tristitia which is sadness. Otherwise, they follow their meanings well.

Best I could do. Transliteration is hard, and my Hebrew's bad anyway.

For those who either had their browsers mess that up, or who can't read Hebrew anyway, he first line was Hello, Children in Hebrew, the second line wasw a transliteration of Aethercraft, and the third was simply the age old favourite, WHEEEEEEEE!

I thank you.

If the language is not fully developed IC, then it's OOC. It's really easy-- the only language fully developed happens to be English. There are a few French words, a handful of Latin words, and so on... but not enough to actually form any kind of language from.

Of course, there are the completely IC languages that are made up by the players, like Crow's Tongue... but most people just don't bother trying to figure that stuff out. smile.gif

Crowtongue does not count as fully developed, sorry.

Wait a few months.

I'm not counting it as fully developed- but I am calling it a completely IC language that isn't English. There was an attempt made at an Aslaran language too, but I think that died.
