And no one who plays Lusternia could be mistaken for being part of the "in crowd" in real life. Does that mean there's no place for any of us, and we should all just "go away"? Shuffle off the mortal coil?

Please tell me this isn't a serious statement.

There is a difference between playing Lusternia and devoting our lives to Lusternia. I do the former, where I play when I get home from school or work while eating dinner and then decide if I'll go out or not afterwards. Half of my friends have no idea I play this game, they just think it's some computer game like WoW.
Daganev2006-07-25 23:00:53
Tell your friends you play a text based game without graphics and heavy requirment for coding. Then tell them how much credits cost, and how much money people have spent on this game in the year of its existance.. I DARE you.
Genos2006-07-25 23:03:57
I have told some of them and told them how much I have spent on this game, it's not a big deal. As hard as this may be to understand some people are actually open to decisions their friends make instead of being judgmental assholes.
Daganev2006-07-25 23:15:49
Then one has to wonder how many of your friends are in the "in" crowd as well tongue.gif

As we all know from movies such as "Mean girls" If you arnt being judgemental, you arn't part of the cool kids.

My definition of the "in" crowd must be a lot different than yours then.

Of course that only applies if youve actually seen the movies and agree with them...

I think what we were responding to so violently was his implication that pretty much anyone who was in an order wasn't making their own charecter.

Which is pretty pathetic. He must not interact with people much.

Frankly, I am pretty disgusted by your attitude, how can you state that about anyone without knowing them well in person? I have actually taken time to get to know both Exarius and his player, over the time I played Lusternia. I have seen everyone making assumptions, not listening to reason and even telling outright lies about him and what he does for so long. I have completely had enough, neither you or anyone else has the right to do such things to someone else, while I realise most of you are not responsible more than a fraction if not at all, this is still enough to completely set me off. I fight to defend a friend against being treated in a way he does not deserve, and I will not have any more of this bigotry. This is statement is for all of you, not just for the one this quote focuses. Enough.
Daganev2006-07-25 23:43:38
You have to agree with "Mean girls" it has that actress in it.. you know, the one...
Sylphas2006-07-25 23:47:06
You totally miss my point. You think I hang out with the "in" crowd in Lusternia? My own fiance is lucky if she sees me around.

My point was, for all that you can build a base to roleplay from, without the world itself, that means nothing. When the world is drastically changed (*coughfaethorncough*), it DOES screw you. How you choose to react to that is up to you, but you can't just tell us off because we should have known better and prepared for things to suddenly change.

NPCs saying one thing for months, and then suddenly another, that throws you off, unless you never cared for that NPC in the first place.

What, you mean I was making assumptions? Like Exarius sweepingly saying that 'anyone who plays Lusternia probably isn't part of the in-crowd'? Gee.

I made that statement becasue Exarius made a very broadly condemning statement against something I identify with - people who roleplay zealots and fanatics.

I'm sorry that Exarius feels socially excluded, and that he feels frustrated by fanatical roleplay. But I really don't need you biting at me because I had the nerve to argue against Exarius.

Excuse me, I think that shows exactly what I am talking about, how in the world would you know anything about that? You don't, you should be quiet and stop making condemming comments about other people. Try to speak only about the subject at hand, I simply wont stand those kind of statements.

That you relate to people roleplaying Zealots and fanatics on the other hand is completely on topic and your opinion, as well as a corrrect a very good statement. That is what this thread should be about, your opinions.

What I resent is how you speak down on Exarius, whom is a dear friend, he is close enough to me to be worth defending with my every breath. And you have the nerve to try to disguise it as an argument? Making claims about a persons feelings is NOT an argument.

Kind of like how Exarius made a condemning statement about how anyone who plays Lusternia obviously can't be in the "in crowd" in real life.

You say you can't stand those kind of statements yet he made one and you ignore it?
Hazar2006-07-26 00:26:54
Exactly. What Genos said. You can't yell at me for condemning him when he condemns us.

I took the fact that he feels socially excluded from his post:

QUOTE(Exarius @ Jul 25 2006, 04:53 PM) 311539

Just because I don't play with the "in crowd" doesn't make my loyal friends any less loyal.

And no one who plays Lusternia could be mistaken for being part of the "in crowd" in real life. Does that mean there's no place for any of us, and we should all just "go away"? Shuffle off the mortal coil?

Go ahead and hate me for being an outsider, and marinate all the while in your own hypocrisy.

Bold is him feeling socially excluded. Italic is him broadly condemning the rest of us.

Ah, I see. This means you cannot identify irony and sarcasm when it is looking up your nose? Exarius is playing with words, you are only reading the "And no one who plays Lusternia could be mistaken for being part of the "in crowd" in real life."

When the second part is what matters, he is saying that none of us deserves to be excluded and ignored. If you read it closely, it is apparent that he is telling people to stand up to themselves. To stand firm on what they belive in and what they want to do. He is saying that we should do the exact opposite of what the litteral words say.

My attack was not on his argument. It was on your hypocrisy. That first part was a 'condemning statement' about other people. You defend it, yet rail against my own condemnation. BS. Pick a position and stick with it.

I defended the opinions and name of a friend, I did not enter to defend myself and I see no reason to continue this argument further. I hope you have a good day.

I have already made my point, dear. And thus I have no need to defend my position. Farewell.

It is the same initial interpretation, except you ignored the last sentence in his post which wouldn't make any sense if the part about us being outsiders wasn't literal. There would be no reason we would be a hypocrite.

In my interpretation we would be hypocrites if the part about us being outsiders in real life was literal. Using the example that since we are all not in the "in crowd" in real life we should just "go away" (In reference to what Sylphas told him to do) which would be a ridiculous thing to do in real life. Thus how you said we should "stand up for ourselves", we all understood that part.

He's calling Sylphas a hypocrite for wanting to exclude him in game for being an outsider while assuming Sylphas is an outsider in real life and wouldn't want to be excluded there.
