Don't get me wrong. I love Dramatics. Yay, Lyreth and Coders. smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif However, I think these changes would make the skillset useable for actual performances which I'd love to be possible in Lusternia.

->New skill: Idiot.
Syntax: PERFORM IDIOT
By acting as an idiot, you will occasionally warp any thoughts in your mind to inanities. If you are already a stupid fool, your punishment will be doubly as harsh.

Gives the stupidity effect. If already stupid, you lose more of your commands to failure.

CODE

3156h, 3506m, 5172e, 10p, 13420en, 20980w elrx- PERFORM IDIOT
You glaze your eyes over and haze your mind in stupidity.
3156h, 3506m, 2872e, 10p, 13420en, 20980w lrx-
You have recovered equilibrium.
3156h, 3506m, 5172e, 10p, 13420en, 20980w elrx-PERFORM END
You cease acting like a stupid fool.
3156h, 3506m, 5172e, 10p, 13420en, 20980w elrx-

->New skill: Characterisation.
Syntax:
PERFORM CHARACTERS
PERFORM CHARACTER SHOW
PERFORM CHARACTER
PERFORM CHARACTER END
You are now such a compelling Drama student that you can take on pre-determined roles and give an entirely captivating show. To see a list of characters, use PERFORM CHARACTERS. To see detailed information about the character designs such as short name, long name, description etc, use PERFORM CHARACTER SHOW . When you take on the role of the character, you effectively disappear from the room and take control of that pre-determined character. To end your act, use PERFORM CHARACTER END. You can only take on the role of a character when behind the stage of a theatre, and moving anywhere but onstage will remove the character and return you to your normal body.

CODE

3156h, 3506m, 5172e, 10p, 13420en, 20980w elrx- PERFORM CHARACTRES

2     Public        a small beggar in tattered rags
3     Public        the village idiot
4     Public        the village drunk
5     Public        an ugly hag
6     Public        a handsome man in a formal tuxedo
7     Public        a mature mugwumpi female
*******************************************************************************
Total: 7
3156h, 3506m, 5172e, 10p, 13420en, 20980w elrx- PERFORM CHARACTER SHOW 4
You carefully study the character.
IMPORTANT: The main noun of this item MUST use this name: DRUNK
Appearance:
the village drunk
Dropped:
Swaying on unbalanced legs, the village drunk stands here with a bottle of alcohol in his hands.
Examined:
This man wreaks of alcohol which drifts around his form in foul fumes. His bedraggled rags are soaked in spilt booze and dark green blotches cover his brown, torn shirt. A long, tangled grey beard grows from his thin, stretched face and his eyes are dazed in an inebriated state. He is starvingly thin, his legs and arms like twigs.
Moving in:
Swaying wildly and overbalancing, the village drunk topples out to the $dir.
Moving out:
With a hiccup and a belch, the village drunk stumbles in from the $dir.

3156h, 3506m, 5172e, 10p, 13420en, 20980w elrx- PERFORM CHARACTER 3
Inhaling deeply, you concentrate and take on the role of the village idiot.
3156h, 3506m, 5172e, 10p, 13420en, 20980w elrx- PERFORM CHARACTER END
Exhaling loudly and lowering your dramatic senses, you release the village idiot's tendencies and become yourself again.

Very cool idea for the charachters..

Don't quite get the point of Idiot though...
Daganev2006-07-31 17:49:44
Also, what cartel would charachters be in? Tailors?
Soll2006-07-31 17:52:58
They would be new Drama Cartels. Idiot would be just simply to have another option. For example, you can already make yourself act drunk. Why not stupid? Why not any number of things? It would just be more involving to have mechanics for these small features.
Daganev2006-07-31 17:57:33
I think it would also be nice to be able to try to fake talking in a language that nobody else knows.

Well my question about idiot is because some of the things you can do "wrong" with stupidity can be pretty harmfull, like turning off channels or eating herbs that your not meaning to.

There arn't any cartels for public skillsets thought... No arts cartel for example. And no Miniatures cartel.
Diamondais2006-07-31 17:59:55
Probably because arts and minuatures are usually from stuff seen about and sketches where as you wouldnt see a village idiot walking around.
Daganev2006-07-31 18:01:54
Vials, pipes, glasses, spikes... all these things could have nice designs for them, and people have wished they could make nice designs for them.
Diamondais2006-07-31 18:06:28
Daganev, go see an Artisan for Pipes. Vials are made from gems so there doesnt seem to be much room for variation there. Glasses, theyre made from raw gems, hard to variate them. Spikes, Im not so sure about. Why would you need to 'pretty' them up?

I havent much experiance with the skill, I dont have lessons to spare for it. It seems to be an influencing skill and a skill of illusioning yourself in the way of an actor. Youre no longer yourself, so, if there was an off chance that Solls suggestion could be put it it would fit seeing as you changes your appearance and the way you act.
Sylphas2006-07-31 19:24:12
I absolutely love the character ideas, even if you can't design your own and can only choose a few archetypes. It'd be great.

EDIT: Bah, that's the first comma splice I can remember writing in my entire life. sad.gif
Soll2006-07-31 19:56:22
Oh, and obviously each community would get a Theatre with a stage, and a backstage. smile.gif Mainly I like the characterisation idea because it would allow people to script and hold actual plays and performances for huge audiences, which I feel is an incredibly unique thing. It would be amazing to attend a dramatisation of, say, Marilynth becoming a Vernal God.

Perhaps you could also have a list of props in a similar manner, using pre-defined descriptions to get props on stage, like an Old Celest Pool of Stars if we're keeping with the above play.

Really neat ideas Soll!

Woot! I'm contagious!

Yay! Another thread to plug my idea for a new trans skill.

Disguise.
Syntax: PERFORM DISGUISE
Power: 5 (since its not much less extreme than a genderbend, really)
The ability to disguise one's voice and actions beyond that of those present is the true epitomy of a dramaticist's skills. Any disguise imaginable is possible at this point in Dramatics training, taking the methods learned in genderbending to the next level.

Examples:
PERFORM DISGUISE A BUSH OF RAINBOW LEAVES

You peer around before ducking out of sight and disguising yourself as a bush of rainbow leaves.

emote rustles its leaves, sending motes of shifting light into the air.
You have emoted: rustles his leaves, sending motes of shifting light into the air.
You impersonate a bush of rainbow leaves.

And other's would see:
A bush of rainbow leaves rustles its leaves, sending motes of shifting light into the air.

And then..
say Boo!
You say "Boo!"
You impersonate a bush of rainbow leaves.

And other's would see:
A bush of rainbow leaves says, "Boo!"

Currently, the skill doesn't have too much use for actual RP, aside from being a pain and impersonating the Nexii and such.. but this would be really cool and add a lot. It wouldn't change what people see when you look at the room. They'd still see "Fallen is here." So it wouldn't work to hide from people by disguising yourself as a denizen. But it would allow you to actually do some nifty things, such as have plays.
Sylphas2006-07-31 23:30:32
Also, near trans, it would be neat if you could illusion. I'd trans dramatics just for HocusPocus if we got it. Something that has no combat use (high power cost, long recovery time, make them colorable with CONFIG COLOR so you can trigger to ignore them entirely, etc), but handy for plays and RP.
Soll2006-07-31 23:40:41
Something like that would need to have severe restrictions, such as an enforced period of non-violence beforehand, and perhaps a temporary peace effect after it, else it will just be used in combat. Power cost, maybe, but only 1 or 2 else it would hinder your use of them in plays. Long time balances would hinder emoting in plays.
Verithrax2006-07-31 23:41:07
Those characters should be costumes... made by tailors.
Sylphas2006-07-31 23:47:19
What if they were all prefixed by " acts out a scene:" or something? It would be annoying for rituals then, but great for plays.

I'd also advocate simply being peaced whenever you enter performance mode, though I'm sure people will want my head for that.
Unknown2006-08-01 13:40:09
I like the general idea, but I think something simpler could be added to improve impersonation.

At the moment, what is the point in impersonating someone who is already in your location? They are going to know when they are being impersonated, so there's no trickery you can achieve. If it is a play you are doing, they are there anyway so they might as well do whatever you are impersonating them doing. It seems to me mostly intended for silliness and little actual RP.

I'd suggest that impersonate be changed so that it only works when the impersonated person is not in the room. Also adding a way to disguise your room short desc as someone else for a very brief period of time would be good as well (with significant limitations).

Then, simply extend the skill to work both by studying someone in person for a while, or from sketches you've prepared earlier. Then you can put on an extensive and detailed play with any characters in Lusternia's past or present that you've come in contact with. Combining object props and ventriloquate, impersonate and a series of sketches, and skillfully prepared descriptions, gender changes and disguises... you could put on a very impressive and convincing production.

Honestly, whats the matter if the trans skill *can* be used in combat? Just make the EQ long enough that its not practicle, and I think theres no problem (Hocus pocus already exists as improved illusions, in the illusions skillset... unless I am mistaken).
Verithrax2006-08-01 15:00:30
Impersonation of someone not on the room should have different text, however, like:

Verithrax impersonates Exarius comically: "So, I was having the most WONDERFUL day yesterday in my HAREM. Have I mentioned I have a HAREM. Yes, I have a HAREM."
