You kind of disprove your point. How many companies hire you on the basis of "Which Spice Girl are you?" quizzes?

Anyway, whether you think personality typologies are all meaningless is one thing, but Myers-Brigg is generally given more weight than Spice Girl quizzes being that it is used by professional psychologists and sociologists. (Of course, you may think those professions are bogus too!)

Ouch. That is my point, though. Companies don't hire on the basis of Spice Girl quizzes, but they do on the basis of Myers-Briggs, and they've got roughly equal validity as psychological instruments. I don't think personality typologies are utterly meaningless, I've had some experience with better ones. Nor do I think psychologists are bogus, or I wouldn't've spent so much time working with them.

And Acrune, yes, I do think I'm telling people something a lot don't know. Many high school and university career counselling programs in the US and Canada include taking the Myers-Briggs. I've seen university grad training programs that, in addition to teaching you about footnotes, lit searches, and research ethics, also give you this questionnaire. Companies do base hiring decisions on them. People take this seriously. The fact that you can take the test three times and get really different scores is called poor "test-retest reliability", and is one mark of a test that doesn't measure a real, stable effect.

QUOTE
they tend to be much more self-confident than the rest, having, for obscure reasons, developed a very strong will. They are rather rare, comprising no more than, say, one percent of the population. Being very judicious, decisions come naturally to them; indeed, they can hardly rest until they have things settled, decided, and set. They are the people who are able to formulate coherent and comprehensive contingency plans, hence contingency organizers or "entailers."

QUOTE
Natural leaders, Masterminds are not at all eager to take command of projects or groups, preferring to stay in the background until others demonstrate their inability to lead.

-snicker- Couldn't be more true if I'd have wrote it about myself.

Guess its fun to be in the same group as Ceasar, Thomas Edison, Sir Newton, Susan B Anthony, Ayn Rand, Jane Austen, C.S. Lewis, George Lucas, and $Alan Greenspan$. Oh and dont forget the fictional masterminds like Hannibal Lecter and Gandalf! wub.gif tongue.gif

I do have to admit I'm jealous of Guido's pairing with Socrates and Einstein though -sniff sniff-

Same, I've had people stand on the other side of a counter tell me to speak up and I end up feeling like I'm shouting at them sad.gif

Demonstrating or performing is putting on a show to entertain others, and Performers, whether on the job, with friends, or in their families, are the natural performers among the types, people for whom it can truly be said "all the world's a stage." Playful and fun-loving, the Performer' primary social interest lies in stimulating those around them, arousing their senses and their pleasureful emotions-charming them, in a sense, to cast off their concerns and "lighten up." Representing about ten per cent of the general population, Performers radiate warmth and optimism, and are able to lift others' spirits with their contagious laughter and their irrepressible joy of living.

But getting different scores would directly correlate with changing answers which is in the hands of the person taking the test. Of course if you keep changing your answers and have no strong sense of a particular answer, the results will be varied. That's part of the test, changes in results generally relay that you're answering the questions not based on yourself but rather trying to "game" the system or not answering truthfully. I know our hiring department uses several tests throughout broken up by questions to determine if you answer questions similarly across the board.

I have the complete opposite problem, everyone always tells me to quiet down. The worst part is when I start getting wound up or drunk I talk even louder, to the point where I can usually hear an echo. Also, I'm usually the one telling people to quiet down when I'm talking louder than everyone else combined. doh.gif

The only thing about the test is that you have to know your self.

For example, some of the questions I would answer one way, based on what I "think is best" but another way if it was worded "what do I actually do"

However, this test in particular seemed odd, because it only gave 2 options per question as apposed to the 4 options per question I had when I took this test as part of an IQ examiniation.

ENFP, the exact same answer I have gotten everytime I have taken one of these tests. Its a common type in my career even though we do not really use tests, we should start!
tsaephai2006-08-06 19:23:50
The great majority of people here appear to be intuitive, and that's the only big pattern that it looks like. I want to put the information down into graph format, but I'm not quite shure how. It'd be interesting to compare the number of people in different catagories that said what they were in this thread to the number of people total in the votes.

I've taken this test a few times over the years and I pretty much always get this (obviously your answers change somewhat over time and through different emotional states). It fits quite well, especially with the tendancy to sacrafice a lot for others and to see the good in most things.

I come off as a moderate-to-strong INTP. Actually I like that outcome; I'm pigeonholed along with Einstein and Newton.
