Hrm. I think we can no longer say we are not offensively capable.
Sure, outside of forest we may be useless, but we're pretty darn scary inside the woods now.
Though I guess that kinda makes sense. Druids use the Forest as its own defense, so as long as you kick arse in the woods, you're doing fine. I hope.

Maybe. The ability is quite potent when used in succession against a target who stands still, but against someone who can hinder effectively (which is pretty much most classes), I still think it falls short. It has amazing group combat potential, but really 1-on-1, I don't see it being too scary. Even then, 5 druids thorn lashing and rending can kill a single target instantly. 5 geomancers with boulderbash can kill a room instantly (in general considering most targets don't have 5000+ health).

It is a step in the right direction though... have smudges hit in trees, lowering the powerdemands of Dream motes will do a load of help to making us very useful. Runes could use a little tweaking, but in a Blacktalan dmesne they are deadly... just need a little more help in the Hartstone direction...
Gelo2006-08-07 03:34:27
Yeah, we need a new room-wide skill so we can stop whoring bellow and stop getting flametells saying "bellowwhore!!"
Athana2006-08-07 03:58:28
Hrm, I really need to play with the new skill...havn't been home long enough to try it out but it's definitely a positive! Woohoo, and I agree that Hartstone have the weakest abilities compared to the other mages/druids both demesne-wise and with supporting abilities but with a little tweaking there could be a lot more potential.
Ashteru: pathtwisting into guards only works for some since most smart people will just tumble/sprint/etc a direction when they want to leave if they see the druid pathtwist

They gave us thornrend/lash
8 power for thornrend..

Thornrend is an instakill. Dunno what that glare smilie is for though.
Sylphas2006-08-07 04:48:04
That looks very very nice. I'd almost be tempted to switch back, if I didn't hate demesnes. Good to know I'll have something to play with if the 'dancers boot me, though, or I get really restless again.
I've never been sure why Druids don't get the room attacks Mages do; it can't be that hard to port over Thornspray.

But it isn't the easiest thing to pull off... in fact at this point gore is still easier. You have thornlash them four times without them writhing out of one of them, and from my tests, they can writhe out of a thornlash before you get equilbrium back from it.
In otherwords, deadly for Blacktalan which give out the afflictions to make it hard to writhe... and another near miss for Hartstone. But hey it is an improvement in the the right direction.
Gelo2006-08-07 06:36:19
You know, I really test skills first before I go post in here.
I thought thornlashing them would make 2 legs lashed, and if they move a random arm will be lashed so you would just have to web once, which was of course, pretty imba
Yeah I think if that is the case, considering people can ignite themselves to get off webbings, have summer and can writhe.. Its not gonna be easy unless your fighting people who dont know how to cure.
I think I would still go for berserk charybdon-stagstomp galore

What afflictions, pray tell, do we give to make it hard to writhe?

Vines and Sap
Gelo2006-08-07 06:54:56
Nah writhing is just too easy now with ignite. I guess you can just get a ring enchanted with ignite and ignite yourself if your being web-thornrend.
Sylphas2006-08-07 06:59:09
Ignite burns off entanglements? Since when?
EDIT: Since about the time I started to actually read. That's annoying as hell. Especially since either fire is bugged and cures itself the first time it would tick, or I have some weird fire defense I don't know about, so ignite wouldn't seem to really have a drawback.

From announce post:
-If your limbs are lashed together, you can free yourself immediately from all
thorns by igniting yourself. Otherwise you can writhe free of them one-by-one.
So thornrend is pretty much

Have you actually used it though? The instakill was only intended as the final culmination of a number of effects.
I actually was a bit worried that it was implemented as too powerful, so I'm quite surprised to hear people think it is useless.
Edit: Oh, and I'm fairly sure ignite only burns off thorns, not all entanglements.

I'm annoyed that you get out of it completely with ignite, I'd be happier with two random ones than seeing four casts removed with a single move, but oh well. Though I think I know of a way to get a thornrend off on someone.
Gelo2006-08-07 09:02:59
I stand corrected.
We did a weee bit of testing and it turns out that its a pretty useful skill. Thornlash is very nice in itself, very useful in combat. And yes the instakill thornrend was just an add-on to make it much better sooo
