Very excited about the Wii. It's like the innovation of the DS, except that you can use it a thousand more ways.

Not to mention, through the Wii you'll be able to access downloads for the DS.

I'm so psyched about the Wii though, the controller is just one of the coolest things imaginable, and is one step closer to fully immersive gaming.

Red Steel looks incredible, but how many of us wouldn't want to actually control the sword? And can you imagine a Soul Calibur game with the Wii remote? With each character getting their own tricks with the controller? Actually getting to wield the wiimote like a rapier for Rafael? Hell, even just a game devoted solely to fencing or kendo would be incredible.

There are so many possibilities.. I can't wait! biggrin.gif

heh heh....'Wii'

One bad thing, is that EA are being bastards and talking about not supporting the controller's capabilities, and treating it like any other controller on the market. Which is sad, but it does leave room for some other sports companies to shine on the Wii.

"Wiimote" is an incredibly stupid term.
Diamondais2006-08-12 02:55:19
Wii and Soul Calibur would be overkill, cheap and hard for beginners. And...Narid would never play with me cause I'm already far too cheap in it..

Come on Zelda, Nintendo has promised you for around a year now!

The Wiimote actually has potential to make golfing and baseball games interesting!

I wouldn't. Waving your controller around makes you look stupid, and how many games with novelty controllers do you hear about as something good? Now they're making a whole system with a novelty controller. doh.gif

I agree with Acrune what if your playing a game and somebody walks in and your on your feet hoping around swinging your arms about how crazy are you going to look?

So just use the normal controller. biggrin.gif

FF3's remake for the DS is going to be a best seller during the holiday season.
Minerva2006-08-12 04:11:40
Theres going to be a regular one?

No more stupid than you do playing DDR, and that's been a huge hit with a novelty controller.

The key here is that the base system has a novelty controller. You don't have to buy a controller, or have it bundled, that will only work for one game. That makes a huge difference. And you still can use it like a normal controller, so you're not limited to rethinking control design for all your games; you can if you want to though, and you can be assured that the person has a controller for it, without jacking up costs or just not doing a game because of technical limitations.
Minerva2006-08-12 05:12:47
Well now that you put it that way it seems awesome hehe if you dont want to you dont have to. Swoot.

Also, according to Nintendo, the Wii controller won't cost much more than an ordinary one.

Aaaand, the Wii is designed to work with GameCube controllers, allowing familiar controls for people who don't want to pick up the "classic" controller that has been designed for the Wii.

You'll also be able to download games from all of the old systems to play for $4-$8 a piece, if the current estimated values hold.

That is a huge value in the Wii, and makes it more than worth it, considering its only going to cost around $250, compared to the PS3's $600.

I'll take a novelty controller that has blown jouralists away any day. The progression of video games beyond graphics has to start somewhere, and this particular step is going to majorly raise immersion. Its the first thing i've been excited about in terms of a console in years.

I disagree, though I suppose you have a point. I'd call it a fluke though that it has been so successful.

The problem I see with novelty controllers is that you're often required to use them to play the game right. Sort of like games made for use with lightguns. Its always been a lot easier for me to use the gun over the controller, and it feels like a completely different game when you compare the two. I'd be afraid that the game would be made for one control scheme or the other, and if you don't use the one its meant for, the game wouldn't feel right. Also, all the games I've seen that involved swinging things in real life look just as stupid on the screen as you do by swinging the thing in the first place. I just wonder how much control you're going to be able to have over the thing. Are games going to try to mimic your exact movements, or is it just going to be between "swing down" and "swing sideways" as most games are that involve you swing the controller to play? Admittedly I haven't been following the Wii, so I don't know exact details, but I just find it really hard to be excited about the controller at all.
Unknown2006-08-12 05:50:59
Its going to mimic your actual movements.

There is a sensor strip that you put either on the top or bottom of the screen (not on the screen, but above it or below it), and the Wii controller uses IR with the strip to allow the strip to detect where on the screen you are pointing, up to pixel accuracy, according to Nintendo.

Then both parts of the Wii controler have multiple accelerometers, which detect movement in all directions. The speed/force you move the controller does matter, especially for things like Wii Golf.

However, you can also turn the controller. For the game Wii Airplane (a part of the Wii Sport package) you hold the controller like a paper airplane to control the flight simulator. For car games, you can turn the controller sideways and rotate it like a steering wheel. Or in Orchestra you use it like a baton, where as it can also act as drum sticks with how you move them creating the beat.

Its a pretty amazing concept, I think.
