When I look at the riding skillset, I see the most costly set in existence and yet also the one with the most potential unrealized. Those facts have actually remained true through the life of Lusternia, even with minor additions such as Trotting. No other skill sets requires as much monetary investment to utilize as riding, without a doubt, as can be seen in the mount costs above. But that is only the start, since each mount even the highest ranks of them are extremely fragile. Meaning that without an investment into either a collar or a customized pet, it is extremely difficult to use the riding skillset. Even with the collar that is still the case, because of the extremely long period of time it takes a mount to recover after death, which can reach 18 hours. Truthfully, I can’t see the issues with riding ever being fixed if this situation remains the same. Mounts should be far more durable, I would even say that the falcon model of other IRE games should be incorporated, which I still have fond memories of. The fact that it was extremely hard to kill a falcon if the owner took proper care of the bird built attachment and companionship between the owner and his companion, as well as allowed the falconry skills to be utilized effectively. Falcons not only had extremely high durability levels, ie health, but also could be set to flee when damaged by percentages.
Before moving on to the potential of the set though, I would also like to pose a question. What is the purpose of the riding skillset? Is simply a tool with a very few useful skills, or is it more? Is the means by which a player can form a partnership with a mount and learn to work as one? And if so, does it fulfill that purpose currently?
I’ve always believed that riding had the most potential of any of the current skillsets, simply because the current implementation has always been flawed in my opinion. Lusternia has a unique opportunity to innovate and improve on the Achaea standard, and achieved heights with the skill ideal that haven’t been reached yet. Riding should be more than a simple semi-useful skillset, it should be a set filled with possibilities not only for combat and utility but also for immersion.
First of all, as I alluded to earlier, emulating the implementation of IRE falcons would go a long way towards increasing the sense of attachment between riders and their mounts. Not only because mounts would be more durable but because it would also require that riders personally trained their own mounts. Then a further re-examination of the current skills would be necessary, some skills that perform basic functions that could easily be inherent, such as Scooping, Mount, Mounts, Soothe, etc, should be changed to be included in one base skill. There are also problems with skills like Ramming and Jousting, since victory is decided by mount type and skill level, most such duels between riders largely end in ties. Actually think the problem can be resolved alongside a revision of mounts to be similar to falcon more, only instead of being able to train a mount perfectly in all stats, one would have to choose which statistics are more important, and those decisions would decide the outcome of duels with Ramming, Jousting, etc. Lasso would also be more involved, it should be possible not only to capture a mount, but also to tame it. So that attaining a more exotic mount isn’t all about spending massive amounts of gold, but also about skill, and time investment. I would love to see more mounts roaming the world, elusive and exotic mounts that require a lot of luck and skill to capture.
I could go on actually, but I think it will pause for now, hopefully I’m not the only one that can see the potential in the riding set.

I definitely like the idea of having to form a relationship with your mount. It would be nice to have to put some work into it, spend more time with the mount, etc. I know that I've found trampling very useful, but it also cost me upwards of 570 credits to be able to do this (as there's NO way I'd bring my mammoth anywhere if it wasn't collared).
I don't think riding should be changed to allow the people who can afford it to get huge advantages, but I think it'd be cool to see some other things done with mounts that are more about immersion and roleplay. It'd be neat to see people have jousting matches after spending a great deal of time training their mounts. I think there's just a lot of neat stuff that can be done with mounts that hasn't been thought of, or hasn't been given any attention to.
And I definitely think that you should be able to somehow boost the durability of your mount.

Taming sounds neat. A resistance to being knocked off would be nice. Unless there is one already and whenever Ive looked at the skill Ive missed it.

Ahh, a remnant of the past, this is the first envoy report of the Ur'guard, written by Valek
Riding
Riding, a wonderful skillset that isn't as cool as it could be. The current riding list is an exact duplicate of Achaea's and it has the same flaws. It has very few combat uses and is more of a roleplay skillset then anything.  I wish to change that and emphasize the roleplay factor by adjusting the effectiveness of a few skills and adding a couple of new ones.
Skill Changes (Upgrades/Downgrades/Tweaks)
Jousting:  Jousting is one of the highest skills within riding and I know on achaea it had little to no use. It is such a cool concept that I think can be alot of fun from an RP point as well as have combat effectiveness.  I didn't get a chance to extensively test it, because I've only found two Trans in the skill, but from what I see this is what I've come up with.  Keep the formula to be based mostly off of skill level and mount, but in examples such as the one below, adjust the formula to add  strength, dexterity, and lance stats, making them have an effect on the winner of the joust. Also, losing a joust should cause more of an effect. It currently doesn't cost anything short of being dismounted and losing your lance. Taking a quick survey and from my own belief that Jousting should be more combat oriented, I think losing a joust should not only cause you to be dismounted and lost your weapon, but also being stunned (to allow the winner to get a follow-up attack), take a noticeable amount of damage (dependant upon the players strength, lance, and skill level), and also perhaps a random chance of one or more limbs breaking.

Steed trade: Make it a default command or one of the first skills.
Legendsteeds:Â Â Here is the Roleplay perspective I wished to add. Legendsteeds are well legendary.. thus I feel they should be unique. I know there are a great deal of legendsteeds that are already existing and are buyable. My idea is to make another set of legend steeds, ones that aren't buyable and are limited to one in the realm at any given time. Design quests to obtain these legend steeds that require a great amount of work, dedication and patience. Have these unique steeds have better odds then any other mount and an edge even over the Legendary steeds that are buyable. The quests can be made so that the mount remains loyal to the quester until someone else successfully completes the quests. A rough example of a quest could be... find an NPC who speaks of the rumor, follow the rumor to another NPC who tells you how to get an item (feed for example), then follow the rumor to someone who can direct you to a certain location where you should use the feed to attract the unique steed at which time you can attempt to lasso it. I think this would be alot of fun and give people another activity to do, especially those elitist who have to have the best of everything and love to compete with others.
New Skills
Mount charge:Â Â Another offensive/fighting ability that should be in riding. Its designed to work like Charge in athletics. It requires lance to be wielded and then proceeds to impale your target, dragging through nearby rooms, causing a slight stun and some damage at the end. It should have a preparation delay like lunge in chivalry from the other realms, maybe 2 seconds where you set your lance up and prepare to charge, can't enter any other commands while prepping the charge doing so.
Mounted Combat: A balance to the skill defense in riding. Mounted Combat offers a 10-15% damage increase to physical attacks while mounted. The level of your steed should affect the amount of increase.
Pacing: This will allow someone who is mounted to be able to follow someone else who is mounted as they gallop, sprint, ect.

Well, I think it would be sweet if mounts and the riding skillset itself had other triumphs in combat than just trample, maybe make it so you can ram others with your mount so that they are knocked down, proned and get damaged.
Another skill I'd like would be for artisans to make carriages and for highranked riders being able to have more than one mount in front of it and just for fun use it to travel. <.< I know, not much value besides RP, but I imagine it would be cool.(tm Veonira)

Given the lack of mounts and feasability of riding I've never been inclined to learn a bit of it on any character in Lusternia and regret putting lessons in it in Achaea. Frankly, I'm suprised that if one skill was to be simply ported over to Lusternia it was Riding.
It could have been so much more, but alas.

WOW. Steal my idea and take credit for it much?!
Anyways, I suggested this earlier on a clan, where you could have a carriage built, and you would need to have a certain number of mounts (4-5 maybe) that you would hook up to it. No combat use, but it would be interesting/expensive. I could really see this being neat if any more people ever took up Great Houses in Magnagora. Not really a serious suggestion but, if it was put in that'd be neat

The biggest problem here, is that I am sure they are wondering how to make it more lusternian, without ripping it off from somewhere else, and without having players making the skillset.
Perhaps we can give them vague ideas of ways to remaking it without requireing them to recode how mounts actually work.
Maybe there can be a mini envoy report on it?

Also take note that Riding will be limited to some classes (mostly warrior classes) since 2 of the guilds here are designed to battle at trees (Hartstone/Blacktalon) where we dont get to bring our mounts. Also some of the skills would require us not being mounted. (I dont know about crow). I dont know if this is much of a problem for the guardian class though. Just a thought.
