That's fine, at least this definition is scientifically sound, if not always black and white.

If its not black and white, its not scientifically sound. If its a "well, its sometimes this and sometimes that" then obviously you're missing the truth of it.
Light, for example. Its not black in white on how it works, so, clearly, we don't understand it.
Scientifically sound would mean that bias could not affect it. Clearly, bias can have an effect on what ends up being deemed a planet or not. As can be seen already.
