Back to The Real World.

This is such a tough question, and I'm really embarassed to say I have NO clue what I want to do with my life.

But, despite having no idea, I am currently double majoring (hopefully double degreeing, actually) in Computer Science and Anthropology (focus in Archaeology). So yeah, if you can't tell, I'm pretty conflicted about what I want to do tongue.gif.
Noola2006-08-18 15:56:29
You can laugh. I almost had to leave the line. sick.gif

I would love to work as a game developer, I really would love to see this world idea i've been formulating actually made into a game or three.

I'm double majoring in computer science and math, a programmer would be a desirable job for me.

I wub.gif nerds *hum*

I am majoring in Game Design. After college I intend to get one of these two positions - Storywriter or Lead Designer.

I'm also starting my own company while still in college which will offer web design, web & mud hosting, and will dun dun dun produce muds! -sparkle- I'm already working on my first.

I fully intend to continue working for graphic games on the design/writing side as long as I can juggle the two jobs. Money is good, I'd love to not have to worry about it so much sleep.gif

Later on, after all my brats are born & grown & out of my hair, I'd love to teach in my field. Gotta encourage more women (the smart ones at least) to join the industry.

.. and I'm NOT an overachiever damnit... tongue.gif

I agree. glare.gif

Yeah, I remember the guy at my advisor's office was trying to get me to join this outreach program because I'm a girl in comp sci.

Too bad I hate public speaking!

I work as web programmer (PHP, Java, right now java.script (it ###ed the correct name!!) but hopefully I won't use it at this level ever again) and sometimes I do some work as web designer when I am told to. On my free time I help doing the web part of another mud most of you already know about.

To do this I got a 3 years degree on computer engineering (software designing side, even if the careers in spain are more generalist and thus we end up being able to also admin systems and have a good idea on the hardware part of things) and I am now taking another 2 years to see if I get the 5 years degree just for the sake of it. Considering changing career to bioinformatics after I do a master, but this depends if I like the subject about it I am taking next semester.

So talk about female geeks wink.gif

On the bright side of things, it's fun and creative. On the dark side, it can get dull and there's tedious work as in anything.

But unlike doctors, if my computer goes wrong I can delete and retype, or just turn it off and on, and it'll never yell at me asking for its medication or an antivirus. Also, I don't have to bear with blood or other human produced substances and nobody makes a noise if I kick my computer now and then tongue.gif

I'm not exactly sure what I want to do but I would like to go into either horse training or becoming a jockey. I enjoy being around horses and working with them I just need to learn how to be more aggressive. sleep.gif I'm too nice when I ride.

I also like being a journalist. Its fun writing about weird or freaky or even controversial topics. Even though, I really didn't know how my schoolmates recacted to some of my articles but its not such a bad thing. My journalist teacher, Ms. Hult, forced me to apply for editorship. I don't want to become a J2. >.< Not ready to be an editor but I guess Ms. Hult thinks so. Oh well, we'll see.

I'm big into Archeology. I like it. I went to school in 3 grade on the weekend to do this class that was all about dinosaurs and that sort of thing. It was loads of fun.

So I've got multiple areas that I like and would want to go into but I dunno want I want to do. I'm kind of scared to that I'm like "What am I going to do? What am I going to do?" Since I'll be ending high school in 3-2 years and I should have an idea of what I want for a major so I can pick a good college. Should work on that instead of my muds...but knowing me I'll be like...uhh dur? when I try and think it out.
Unknown2006-08-18 18:18:39
Something like archeologist, or historian. That's last years dream job. As soon as the nexy school you rolls around, I'll probably move on to another one.

And digging up dinos is paleontology.
Unknown2006-08-18 18:38:59
I know, but I also like Archeology. The paleontology class just started me onto the whole track of that sort of thing.
Tsuki2006-08-18 18:40:35
Librarian.

And, after sending in my application back on June 22nd I just today got a call that I can have an interview next week. For the possibility of working in the State Library of Pennsylvania!

I'm so incredibly nervous/hopeful right now. And have many things to do to prepare. fear.gif Wish me luck!
Noola2006-08-18 19:43:12
Good luck!!

I always thought being a librarian would be an awesome job.
Veonira2006-08-18 20:22:08
Archaeology is very cool. I've always been interested in history (particularly ancient history), but I don't really want to be a history teacher or anything, so I took an archaeology course last semester and fell in love and decided to double major in it.

Right now I'm thinking about going somwhere in the field of Marine Biology when I go to college.

However, just for some money I worked in a Geotechnical Engineering Lab for categorizing and testing concrete cylinders coming from job sites all around the Tri-State area (Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky). They also do a lot of other testing but I was just working on cylinders. It was rather boring but I got to work full time and the pay was good for a summer job for someone my age. I actually just quit today since I start school next Thursday.
Jack2006-08-19 01:13:51
A freelance fantasy author subsidizing his work through journalism. That would be the best job ever.
Ildaudid2006-08-19 01:55:23
I was planning ethno-botany... but the real world bites you in the ass and you end up making alot more money doing other things.
Unknown2006-08-19 02:29:48
There is no such thing as the real world.

Mirk2006-08-20 06:14:15
For the moment, I'm a lifeguard at my high school (best lazy job ever. Hardly anyone ever comes to swim), but I hope to get into video game design.
Saran2006-08-20 13:25:11
Interestingly enough most of the people in my tafe class want to work with games. So of course the brainwave to have a game programming course comes after we're already in a different one.

Anyway, I'll go on learning programming and hope that I can begin my evil rise through the ranks to become a developer.

If I am happy with what I am doing now that is all that matters right?

That's 100% correct, in my view. Don't feel silly.

Personally, I'm still not sure what I want to do career wise. I bore easily, so something versatile would be good. I'm doing a communications degree at the moment, and plan to do psychology as a post grad, but I don't know where exactly I'll focus that.
