"Made a Fool Of" - A warrior can land a series of false blows, aimed more to mock the target than do any physical damage. If successful, the target's ability to dodge and parry is decreased for each other person in the room when the affliction is given.

How about:
"Feint - A false attack to lower your enemy's guard."
Effect: Attack does no damage, and takes physical balance as a normal attack would. However, the next attack catches your enemy off guard and does significantly enhanced damage and wounding, bypassing defenses such as stances.

Alternate Effect (if the first effect is hated): Skill to simply force a person out of their physical defenses one at a time (combat stances, parry, grounding, so forth).

Nervousness - randomly either lengthens or shortens your EQ time, causes you to fumble actions from time to time, which fizzles, but applies the mana/ego costs anyway. Cured in the same manner as jitters or with COMPOSE.

Puissance AND Feint? No oneshot kills please.

Speaking of Swordplay, a better way to use it would be like so

Feint- A false attack to play the enemies hand.
Effect: Attack does no damage, but costs 1/4th of normal balance. If the next attack is done in the next(2? 4?) seconds, it will bypass any parries or dodges, and is a garunteed hit, with a slightly increased wounding. Has a initially high chance of success, but can be countered with WATCH FEINT, which will slow you by (1, 2?) seconds each attack, but will significantly lower the success of a feint.

Apathy: falsely returns zero afflictions on diagnose and no wounds on wounds.

Dampened: prevents planar manipulations, including outrifting and teleportation.

Trepidation: targetted aggressive actions have a chance to fail and instead cause a random phobia

Unsure if mentioned or in existance, I'm not a fighter:

DisruptedAura: Due to an inability to properly control the energy flow in and around your body, your spells require more mana and deal some damage to you as a result.
Aura Barb: Due to a an ethereal barb in your aura, you mana constantly leaks out in a fashion similar to bleeding for a short period of time.

A better use for this would be blocking DIAG, SUCCOR, and WOUNDS and returning a message "You simply can't muster the desire to check that."

Brittle bones.
Chance to break an arm when performing actions.
Chance to break a leg when moving.

I like that idea, but how would you cure it? Mending? Because if so then that doesn't make it much different than broken bones at all.

Calcium supplements to heal brittle bones?

No to the outrifting. That's just too powerful as it is essentially Anorexia and Asthma in one. Sure there are purgatives, but... no it is too powerful.

It's like rigormortis, basically, except the limb breaks are triggered on actions instead of a timer.

Okay, okay I could see that working.

Aetherflux/Wyrdenfate - causes all actions to resolve with a random, normally distributed delay between 0 and 3 seconds, but unlike aeon does not overwrite a delayed command with the next one.

Reason - Can be attacked by mob-targetted Influence skills, which cause the same ego damage as to mobs and cause a 0.5 second peace effect after the attack. Cured by focus mind, some applicable herb.

Ethical - Any time you deal health damage, you lose 1/3 that amount in mana and 2/3 the amount in ego. Cured by alcohol/absinthe/reishi.

giggle.gif Yes, I know, I don't really expect any of them to be put in. Fun to imagine though.

Ignorance - causes all status/affliction messages to have random characters missing ie:
* Yu hae reovred euilbrium.
* Y ake a dink rom a pal vial.
* Yur ody wars up ad ou sp shierng.

Disassociative - causes you to see your own messages as if they related to someone else. Instead of 'You take a drink from a diamond vial.' you would see ' takes a drink from a diamond vial.'. Instead of 'Your right arm shrivels up and becomes useless.' you would see ''s right arm shrivels up and becomes useless.' Balance and diagnosis messages would remain normal.

OpticBlur - causes an effect similar to choke, in that all messages you receive are delayed by 2 seconds, but in reality they go through on time. An optical illusion that causes a delay, sort of thing. (<--- this would be SO nasty to code. tongue.gif)
Kiradawea2009-01-27 01:07:42
Do we really need afflictions that mess with systems?

No.

I actually like the dissociative affliction.
