Because combat is essentially based on systems now, I still don't think that the system-wrecking afflictions would be the way to go. Plus, IG you'd have to be pretty messed up to not know that you have two broken arms, a giant hole in your stomach, drenched in sap, and being snapped in pieces - all at the same time.

And yet you can still get in that state via blackout.

Anyway, afflictions that take some modicum of skill to cure rather than just a system really -would- be a way to go if it were possible. It's just a question of whether it is possible.
Gwylifar2009-01-27 14:40:52
Heck, most mob-based limb-break messages don't tell you which limb got broken. Isn't it goofy that you have a broken arm but unless you pause and check you can't tell which one?

possible funny Telepathy or side result of concussion/headtrauma type afflict:

cursed with a deadpan voice

can't use dramatics fasttalk
deal slightly reduced (-5-10%) debate damage

cured by focus mind and/or pennyroyal
Dakkhan2009-04-14 00:27:22
Hero Complex

Given by telepathy

those afflicted will do their best to protect allies from damage, even at the expense of their own well-being. by helplessly throwing themselves in front of their allies, they take increased damage in all pools when around them.

cured by sipping choleric

this will make people fight much differently in groups.

Sore throat

Makes bard songs less effective and cause them to end a little bit faster.

Just a thought biggrin.gif

not really a new affliction, but an add on. I just didn't know where to put this.

I noticed just how useless fear really is in battle, since if you're unbalanced or without eq, you will just stand there, giving yourself plenty of time to compose. Why not make it a little more realistic. I'm pretty sure that if something will scare me when I'm off balance, I'll lose my footing and fall. This will make scare skills more useful in combat, and will give the more.. experienced players something new to handle.

How about:

Prosopagnosia - "You have lost the ability to differentiate faces."

Causes any targetted ability to randomly select another person in the same room. It wouldn't have any effect if you were fighting one-vs-one (since there's only one other person in the room to be selected), but against zerg battles and left uncured it would cause chaos. It wouldn't affect any incoming messages you receive, simply because otherwise I think it would be too powerful.

I'm not sure this thread is necessary any more, considering statements in other threads that they're looking at cutting down on the numbers of afflictions where possible.
Binjo2011-08-22 14:44:32
Ignoring Esano's valid post:

Lockjaw: Ability to sip with an inability to eat. Either altered speech or inability to speak/bard songs.

Marjoram cure?

This may bring out my nubness but....how can the cure be Marjoram if you cant eat? As far as I know you don't smoke, apply or sip Marjoram. Also, I agree, we already have so many afflictions that we should remove the ones that are pointless before experimenting with new ones.
Binjo2011-08-22 21:51:28
Quite the opposite. I'm quite sleep deprived today... choleric cure!? Or could just do the classy apply mending to head.

Probably been suggested before. Cause blindness to prevent attempts to read magic scrolls.

Also add in a chance of sipping the wrong thing. For fun.

yes.

Blindness does already prevent one from reading things.
Sakr2011-09-26 17:05:10
Egh, not sure if this goes here or not, but why not get diseases when you are exploring? Something that can only be cured by a healer? Higher circle areas to lower circle areas deal in different strengths. If you've already visited the place already, over time you'll build an immunity to the disease.

Also another thing, dizziness from going up and down quickly in altitudes? Or getting dizziness from diving too far due to pressure?
