I think that if you want to hit one's spine, slashing from the side would make a deal more sense than trying to cleave from the front... so basicly you're not really targetting the gut at all. Perhaps SpineCleave would be a better name. Dunno, I am no expert
Vesar2006-09-28 10:53:11
I'd rather have it hit on the back (like the action version I suggested) but for the affliction it would have to be gut or chest, since we don't have a back or side when it comes to deep wounds.

I have a few-

Modesty- Affliction reads your current state "You look like a begger. You look like royality." Ect, and causes the subject to either flee if under dressed or spend eq trying to cover themselves up if another person is in the room.

Rubella- Affliction causes stiffness in the body, limiting mobility and slowing the ability to writhe.

Exhibition- Affliction causes the target to grow uncomfortable and feel bound in clothing and such. The target will not wear cloaks, robes, shirts, pants, and the like.

Motion Sickness- Any large movement, teleport, sprint, leap, ect.. Causes the target to abort movement and vomit, on lets say a 25% chance.

Already exists in the form of Vestiphobia, which causes you to feel strangled by your clothing, rip it off, and throw it to the ground.

The other ideas were interesting though.

Vestiphobia should probably get replaced by one of these, too.

And generosity. dry.gif

A lot of the afflictions people have suggested on this thread would be really useless.

Stun... and Paralysis... wow, that's... overpowered? huh.gif

You mean like any time I attack with broken chest, broken nose, fractured skull, knockdown, and wind...and mantakaya hits at the same time?

Oh noes. Fractured skull I get stupidity/stun/paralysis!!

I personally don't like the idea of new afflictions, would rather improve and balance the ones we have. But as envoy, and knowing that axelords are suffering, I try to suggest what I can. No one listens to me though sad.gif

BTW, if no one has caught on, we've been using this thread as a resource for ideas for new skills for bards. Since we haven't finalized the other specializations, feel free to keep submitting ideas!

Here are some I posted in an illusion thread.

Mindhorror--horrors of the mind, a mental protective system that if anybody actively scries you they see a horrid image and take some kind of damage from it. Maybe also an initial attack against a user opening a telepathy channel. (This is both a buff and attack, so It kinda belongs in both).

Phantasmagoria--same effect as dementia, but instead of person based, it's room based--that is, anybody in the room is afflicted because it's a physical illusion. A Phantasmagoria room would start causing confusion or hallucinations, which can be cured by the normal cures, but there's no way to cure the dementia effect unless something dispells the illusion or leaves the room.

I know nothing about how bard skills work yet, but I can make stuff up anyway!

Resonance - take damage from songs in addition to their normal effects.

Echo - songs you hear cause a second, random effect in addition to their normal one.

Catchy Tune - commands have a small chance of causing (non-stacking) eq loss instead of their intended effect ("You unconciously hum a piece of the song stuck in your head before wondering what it was you were about to do.")

Guilt - skills you use that cause damage cause double eq or balance loss.

Ringing - messages about what is happening to you (the same messages that blackout makes hidden) are replaced 33% of the time by "A ringing in your ears causes you to clutch your head in pain."

Noise - adds * randomly to all messages recieved until cured.

How about an affliction to stop tumble? pleasesign.gif

Err, let me clarify.

Noise - randomly replaces characters with the * character in everything the player sees. (Similar to that venom in Achaea that did paralysis, but the afflict message had *'s randomly interspersed.)

So, instead of "Laughing merrily, a pixie flutters in from the west." it might be "Laughing merrily, a pixie *lutters in from the wes*."

Or instead of "You have recovered balance on all limbs." it might be "You have recovered b*lance on all limbs."

Overpowered? Possibly. I could deal with it, as long as the afflict and the unafflict for Noise weren't effected by Noise tongue.gif

Noise should proably get progressively worse the longer it is until cured, because otherwise it's only good for messing up systems.

Err, you do realize that what I proposed is really hosing to most systems, and that an affliction that only hurts skilled combatants is really good, right? tongue.gif

Yeah, but it is kind of ICly useless if it only blanks out a couple of sounds. Afflictions need to make sense in both worlds.
Typhus2006-10-09 19:40:57
Pulse- Works like this, allows a bard to set up a note to strike ahead in time, example, Pulse Shorlen MajorSeventh 30, to strike Shorlen with MajorSeventh 30 seconds down the line. When Diaged, comes up as, "You feel your soul tuned", regardless of what the affliction to hit will be. Also, doesn't stack like most afflictions, so you can only be set for one Pulse at a time. Also, could be used to Pulse Me Majorthird, and the like.

Disharmony- Disrupts personal and physical auras, preventing someone from forming Auras of Rebounding, Circles and Pentagrams, and other forms of protection until they eat reishi.

How about clumsy stopping tumble and other certain acrobatic skills (or just make the rate at which they work lower when clumsy)?

Riftblock -- Makes a user unable to access his or her personal rift for a short period.

Confuse Inventory -- Illusion that acts sort of like dementia, but only affects your inventory, so you can't figure out what you have.

Snowbeast -- During a blizzard, you can summon a snowman as a being who can attack another. It will only last as long as there's a blizzard and a few seconds after unless another blizzard exists.

Summon Snowbeast Against
Dismiss Snowbeast.

Mystic Maze -- Sends the victim and his ents into an instanced randomize mazed (pocket dimension). The user must walk out of the maze to get back to where he was. (Or fades if enough time passes).

Teleport Destabilization--Similar to power spikes--anyone using a teleport ability, transversing, tesseracting, etc, will take damage due to "weave disruption".

Teleport Confusion--Disrupts a teleport so instead of going to a subject or nexus it goes to a random person in the same area as the target.

This would be awesome as the new trans skill in Glamours. Minipit ftw!

Conjunctivitis: Blackout ranging from 0.5 to 1 seconds, repeating at short irreglar intervals.
