That's assuming the damage curve is linearly proportional to the Damage stat of a weapon. Precision stat is directly proportional while Speed stat is in quantities of 5 points.
Speed doesn't have 5 point dropoffs either. At increasingly high damage stats, it's accurate to claim a couple points are in fact linear. 20 is pushing it a bit, but 10 at high damage is small enough to do what I suggested to estimate true damage. At 20 points, it would be prudent to add a few points of damage to make up for the scaling. Think of it as the derivative to a curved function to extrapolate a reasonably accurate value, or Eulers method if you're familiar with that.

Thank you for clearing that up Tuek, I was screaming my head off reading everyone making random claims about shine.
Essentially you have a total of 1 minute with 10% boost to damage and 1 minute with 10% boost to defense, overlapped. Everything else is negligible, and even the peak is hardly noticeable. We're talking a modification of (+/-)15-55 for most skills for gibbous overlaps.

I only ever used Shine to burn off power while linking the Gaudiguch node. It would be useful if it didn't cost power, or if the buff was massively increased; double damage/50% damage reduction at Full, perhaps. If you can't tank a 1.6k Moonburst, shield a few times and wait for the phase to cycle.

No where in my statement did I say that the problem was only his weapons. I stated that the weapons are part of the problem, and if we want to balance out the rest of warriors then that part of the problem must be eliminated. Then the other problems concerning damage stacking and such can be looked at once the outliners are removed.
I understand that you recognize there are more variables in play than the weapons themselves. This highlight above is what I was responding to.
Whether or not it needs to be eliminated is a function of the impact it has, which I believe is small. Somewhat incidentally, there are also issues with the data being used on these forums to justify the need for any change at all.

Moondancers are not the only ones with Moon.
Could you tank 3k damage every 4 seconds for 30 seconds, as well as deepwounds/afflictions? (Note that this would be weapons that do 750 damage a swing, a CONSIDERABLE bit less than Ixion's... and a number that many other Moon warriors could aspire to).
Your suggestion would be immensely overpowered, imo.
Sylphas2006-08-23 18:06:04
True, that is the problem with balancing the totems, it has to be useful for both casters and warriors. Not only that, Moon and Stag are the secondary skills for casters, but tertiary skills for warriors. You have to balance the offensive needs of casters with the support needs of warriors, which ends up with things like weaponaura on Drawdown and Nightkiss, which does absolutely nothing for wiccans, or Lash, which isn't really useful for warriors.
I think the decision to offer the Totem skills as they do was a bad one to begin with, but I hate seeing useless skills. There has to be some way to make shine not crap. Totally removing the power cost would be another way to do it.

I hate people who hate Weapon Aura... As a Moon Serenguard you can only use (in combat) Moondance Aura(a def), Waning(Aeon), Moondance(another def) and uhm... that's it
As a Stag Seren you use Staghide(def), Trueheart and Swiftstripes Paintings(Ego recovery and defense against angel/demon summoning with TH and faster balance with SS), Stagform (+1 dex), gore to some extent and Parade(Unenemying and allying, good against Mages).. Maybe the healing bag and Stag totem...
You see? Commune warriors are more like Rune warriors on other realms in terms of their way to kill is via empowering themselves with defenses to strenghten their offenses(and Totems has some good defenses for combat or otherwise, which is a bonus).. Which I really like since it takes one skillset out of your mind so you can concentrate more on using your weapons... While Urs and Pallies use more their third skillset to enforce some strategies (Slash slash Truheal Slash slash or using Inquisition)

I don't hate Weaponaura, I hate how the same skillset has to do wildly different things, and is such a bitch to balance.

Admittedly I am no combatant, but I look at things differently.
Like it or not, Lusternia lives off of people who -buy- credits, and buying said credits should be worth one's while or else none would buy them and they would not exist. As such, I am not totaly shocked to see that a person who took the time to program a curing system, hunted like a maniac to titanhood and bought alot of credits cannot be taken down easily.
money and effort talk, slightly unfair? yes, but that's how it is everywhere.
Those who pay less and put in less effort, are more likely to be weaker. Moreso, I never thought that all classes should be able to efficiently all other classes easily- Each has their own merits and flaws.
I think that Ixion is one of a few unique cases, which I am happy that exist... every "world" has its legends. He is one person I would rather not meet on a battlefield, and I am fine with it.
Soll, I am not saying that you're no good, you're far better then I, I am beyond certain- but Ixion simply put more effort and money into it.
everything is -possible-, and even a merian mage can withstand hits from Ixion- it would simply cost a decent amount of credits for health arties and what not.
I never bought a single credit in my life, I am not exactly swimming in them, I know it's annoying that everyone's 250% of your might minimum..., but that's how it is, and I don't think that a game which is funded by credit purchases should act differently.
hope I didn't offend anyone at any rate

Um, not sure what you're talking about. Did I misspell the name? I'm talking about the Greek warrior Achilles who fought the Trojans and all that... I've never played Final Fantasy X (unless FF X means something else?)

Ixion is from FF X
not Achilles
not Achilles

No, I meant that the name Ixion originates, just like Achilles, from a Greek myth. But since Ixion appears as an Aeon (summonable creature) in Final Fantasy X, people think that's where Ixion (the player) got his name from.
Sorry to cause unnecessary confusion. Necessary confusion, on the other hand, is very welcome.
Unknown2006-08-29 22:17:50
Yeah, he's saying that Achilles makes sense because Ixion was the creator of the centaurs (or something) in Greek mythology.

Are you saying Ixion took his name from a video game? That doesn't change the fact that Achilles is a legend most of the world's heard of and.. most of the world's not played FF X.
Noola2006-08-29 22:19:36
Oooooh!
It's been a long day. And I'm not 100% up on my Greek mythology.
Thanks everyone for clearing up my confusion!

But I complete forget about this Ixion, no wonder the name sounded so familiar!

Also, the mythical Ixion fits the Lusternian one much more than some unicorn aeon. He was so badass that the gods themselves had to lay the smackdown... not that they do it rarely in Greek mythology...
NINJAS!
NINJAS!
Ixion2006-08-29 23:18:00
There is another thread about greek etymology. Shiri bot to the rescue if you want to see it.
I liked the Mythology Ixion and that's where I got the inspiration to use the same name. The FF Ixion.. um no, didn't even know about it nor have I ever played an FF game.
Noola, haha, thanks for the compliment.
