Question regarding Aslarans

I honestly wasn't sure where to put this question, so I figured General would be the way to go.

In a flat-out run, would an Aslaran drop down to all fours and run like an actual cat, or are they completely bipedal? I've seen descriptions of differet individuals who each describe their limbs differently. They seem like they'd go either way, but I'd like to get a majority opinion, or even an offical one before I get much further on my artisanal entry drawing.

Thanks!

I don't know for sure, but I always pictured them like the guy here:

That's one vote for bipedal so far then! Thanks! biggrin.gif
Diamondais2006-08-21 19:47:41
Id say they walk more like we do than a cat.
Noola2006-08-21 19:53:20
Yeah, though it's not really walking I'm thinking of, it's a flat-out, desperate run. I'm thinking this would depend on how their limbs were configured. The drawing on the website kind of implies that they'd be comfortable either way... which is why I'm asking. It's not clear to me.

But so far that's two votes for bipedal! biggrin.gif

Hm..well, keeping to my origional thought I would still think theyre shaped roughly like ours, but perhaps with a bit more flexability so theyd be able to maneuver in said positions but wouldnt be the best way for them. If you understand what Im trying to say.
Hazar2006-08-21 20:01:17
Bipedal. They're too functional otherwise to be able to run on four limbs, don't have the right hips or arms, I'd think.
Daganev2006-08-21 20:02:36
My vote is... It would depend how much they were interbred with humans.

(thats seems to be estarra's answer for most of the pics of the races)
Minerva2006-08-21 20:04:13
I say they could do both but in a desprite run they would go for quadpedral.
Unknown2006-08-21 20:04:44
They'd need either gorrila-like huge arms, or non-prehensile (don't kill me, I hate my stupid dictionary - I know there's a smarter word for this) limbs to run on fours. They're two-legged for me.

But anything goes as long as they are humanoid felines and not some fanboyish catpeople.
Noola2006-08-21 20:23:15
Seems like most everyone is leaning towards bipedal. Glad I asked before I started that part of the drawing! laugh.gif

And what's a fanboyish catperson look like? (Honestly before I saw it here, I'd never heard of fanboys. Fangirls yes, but not fanboys. Yay for equality! laugh.gif )

Fanboy, in an unofficial definition, is a person madly (but shallowly) obsessed with Japan and its culture - mostly involving anime/manga, katanas and annoying smilies.

Catperson - looks like a normal human, but with cat ears, eyes and a tail. Also sometimes cat nose and (rarely, really) fur. Often encountered in manga and anime.
Noola2006-08-21 20:29:24
Oh no. That's not what I'm drawing at all. In fact, the Aslaran I'm drawig wouldn't have any human in him what-so-ever.

Even on guys? My description was unisex.

And I'm sure Noola is not trying to make a catperson picture, because otherwise she wouldn't ask who they are - and good! Elder Scrolls-style Khajit for the win.

Not sure I know what that is either. biggrin.gif

But hopefully you'll like what I do. (actually, really hopefully the judges will! laugh.gif ) If you like it, that'll be bonus. wink.gif

Well, Prehensile refers to gripping... and cats don't have those.

And if they walk effectivly on two legs, they can not run on four. The skeletal scruture for walking bipedal would making running on all four almost impossible. Now for those who say they may be able to walk bipedal, but they normally do quad, and just do biped to fit in, that is unlikely. It is a true a cat or dog can walk on two legs, but they do it every slowly, and awkwardly, and at immense expenditure of energy. That is why you don't ever see it outside of trained animals. (Even chimps will use all fours, although they have a slightly different mood of locamotion then then quads, because their hips are not set up for bipedal walking at all.)
Gwylifar2006-08-22 17:21:08
My vote's for bipedal. Good to remember that while aslaran are kin to their "wordless brothers", they are actually splinters of Aslarn, not simply "evolved from" other cats. Their depictions in the histories and the Moors seem firmly in favor of a body that would only work bipedally. My guess is that an aslaran who had to run on all fours could do so far better than a human on all fours, but then, that's not saying much at all. The aslaran on all fours still couldn't outrun a human on two feet, let alone an aslaran on two feet.

Now, how about taurians?
Ildaudid2006-08-22 17:32:52
Well I would say on all fours, because Nico moves really fast.

Taurians..... well I would want on all fours because if they were standing I would be able to see those creepy udders and teats. I don't want them getting an extra milk attack off on me either.
Unknown2006-08-22 17:38:38
Taurians are definately bipedal, no matter do we like it or not.

Aslarans, although bipedal, might lean forward when running to a much greater extent than humans and other human-like races. Think fellpools from Star Ocean - Ratix, Milly, Dorn (NOT Perisie!).

Also, Joshua = Trill. Not only because of the wings, but his general personality. But this is offtopic.
