Hi everyone,
I'm going to be starting to play Lusternia soon, however, I had a few questions I need to ask before I get started. I wasn't able to find anything through the search function, so I do apologise if it's in an obvious location.
I was wondering what people would recommend as a good bashing guild and race for someone who is not likely to be able to buy many credits if any at all please?
Thank you,
Baalus

Warrior and mage guilds are the best bashers. Warriors have huge health and defenses, allowing them to absorb tons of damage, while mage staffs are the hardest hitting bashing weapons in the game.
Warriors are very slow early on, though, and mages that can't get their hands on credits will have to pour all their lessons into their main guild skill until they're fairly high to be able to summon a staff.
Just don't pick a guardian guild, they're the worst bashers, though they're not quite so bad with the new symbols, but those are as high up in the skill as staff and weaker to boot.

I would actually vote Shadowdancer or Moondancer on this one.

Errr.. why? Moonburst doesn't compare to staffs, not even close.

Nymph + Mother + Sprite.

You get nymph and sprite long before you get staff or cudgel (or moonburst or nightkiss).
And I don't know about moonburst vs. staff, but nightkiss and cudgel do the exact same mob damage.

You can tank everything eventually, so all that really matters is speed for bashing.

Moondancers and Shadowdancers get some nifty utility, but Tuek is correct. Warriors, at least, have such huge tankiness that they can wade through groups of astral and catacomb denizens, at least long enough to flee, without getting owned.

Moondancers are good for bashing right up until high levels, though. He won't be able to buy credits, but it's not so hard to get the Fabled wicca you need for Mother with lessons from hunting alone (and the nymph is a bit before that.)

Hi again.
Thanks everyone for your help, I appreciate it. Just a few questions.
So if I was to go mage.. I'd need to focus on elementalism or illusions?
If I was to go shadowdancer/moondancer (wiccan? druid?) which skillset has the abilities you're talking about?
I have ruled out warrior, as I've been reading you need a lot of credits for that.
Cheers!

You need no more credits for warrior than anything else really, especially not for hunting.
If you go mage, elementalism is more important.
If you go Wiccan (Moondancer/shadowdancer) you want to get to Moon/Night which is master totems (maybe the Shadowdancers don't recommend that, but we do) for Coven, so you can be resurgemed if you die and help other people to do the same, and then focus on Wicca.

Concentrate on elementalism as a mage and Wicca as a Moondance or Shadowdancer

Warriors only need lots of credits to PK. As for the rest of it, the main mage skillset is elementalism (which branches into aquamancy or geomancy) and the main shadow/moondancer skillset is nature, which branches into wicca. Moonburst/nightkiss, however, are in night and moon - so you'd need enough lessons to get all your bashing fae -and- trans moon or night, which is unlikely to happen without credits.

Moondancer is better than Shadowdancer for bashing due to Mother and Resurgem.
All Dancers get Sprite at Virtuoso Wicca (600 lessons) which effectively means completely unlimited mana while bashing, and Nymph at Virtuoso 66% Wicca (808 total lessons) which makes passive denizens that you aggroed passive again every 12 seconds, thus letting you tank ANYTHING that isn't naturally aggressive. A really powerful bashing skill in my eyes.
Moondancers learn Mother at Fabled 0% Wicca (912 total lessons), which is passive healing - not much, but passive healing is always useful. Moondancers also get 20% resistance to magic at 50% gifted, which is really nice when bashing things that cause magical harm like Gorgogs, and they get an active healing skill at Expert 33%. Their uber bashing skill though is at trans Moon though, which is a little annoying since their other good bashing skills are in Wicca.
Moondancers can also be resurgemed (if they have Master totems), a ranged res skill that takes five people to cast. The only drawback is that it doesn't work when your corpse is destroyed, or when your body isn't on the same plane as the coven of five casting it. Still, it means that you'll be ressed when you die from bashing.
For a mage, you want to focus on elementalism until you get a staff (at Mythical, so 1292 lessons), but you want to get illusions to Reflections first (which is only 16 lessons in).

Dancers are awesome for bashing due to the faes as well as Moonburst's damage potential, especially in the hands of a Mugwump. Not to mention you are much tankier than a Mage that has not taken Telekinesis and definitely tankier than any Druids.

Once again, without buying credits you're not going to get moonburst, let alone all the good bashing Fae.
The best bashing class for someone with no credits who wants to keep it simple is mages. Period. Dancers are niftier but you'll need credits to pull it off.

Dude, with enough dedication, you can bash everything up. It just takes longer nowadays.

I'd say the best class for bashing overall is Mages, since they get staff and a bunch of miscellaneous buffs in the form of psionics and defs like stoneskin. However, achieving those skills will be fairly credit intensive (around 450+ if all are bound).
I'd recommend Moondancers if you're only going to be obtaining credits via in-game resources, since their utility skills make bashing easier at lower levels, and their bashing skill is updated twice (nature curse initially, which is boosted in damage when you get your athame, and finally moonburst).

The other problem with nymph is shields. If they nymph stops something after it puts up shield, you'd better have nullify. If not, then you have to sit there and wait for them to wake up. I think, at least.
Jack2006-08-26 11:47:18
To be fair, nullify is a very short distance into lowmagic - 15 lessons sunk into it should cover it.
EDIT: Additionally the highmagic counterpart, void, can be enchanted upon items, so technically you could get it for no lessons whatsoever.
