What exactly does a privacy gem do. Making a room private... umm what does that exactly mean? Does it mean people can't see you on cwho gwho? Or does it make it so Divine can't hear your talk about them?? It has confused me for some time... what is it??
Unknown2006-08-25 01:35:46
The first one, I believe... or it makes the room hidden... I forget
Unknown2006-08-25 01:37:00
Probobly no one might see you in WHO... then again, same question. WHAT does a Privacy gem do? huh.gif

Hrm, there is the gem of cloaking for hiding you from: who, bw, etc. I heard it makes it so the Diving can't hear you, but you never know  I'm curious myself what exactly it does
Unknown2006-08-25 01:42:28
It just means you can't be overheard by divine and eavesdropping skills (which dont exist because it does not include dreamweaving as far as I know).

It doesn't hide you from any who lists, that would be a gem of cloaking.

Edit: I'm fairly sure all the divine fulcruxes are private, if you want to experiment. It's the line 'A comfortable feeling of privacy fills the area', or something like that. I'm guessing it's there so only the divine who owns the fulcrux can eavesdrop there.

Only eavesdropping skill I know of (other than said dreamweaving, or maybe ghosting) is the enchanted paintings. But most people don't place enchanted paintings in secret areas of important talk, anyhow wink.gif

Oh right, nifty. But yeah, its easier to just destroy the painting than spend the credits on an artifact.

Maybe its for OOC manses, where you can plot to destroy the game without fear of being overheard! ohmy.gif

...or more likely, so you can mudsex without sending alarms to all the admin. tongue.gif

Heh, nothing stops the divine from listening to you or spying on you. If you are willing to believe that, I'm afraid you are sadly mistaken.
Reiha2006-08-25 02:03:48
...100 credits to protect against converstaions overhead via paintings, which can just be taken down? blink.gif

Its to stop players from eavesdropping. Its basically a room-wide Blue (from Low Magic)

Spy in Crow
Psionics with Enchanted Paintings
And probably Listen in Tracking.

I'm guessing more things will be added, since the gems/blue have been around longer than any of the abilities they actually block.

I dunno. I think if somebody invokes blue and is in a zone of privacy the gods will respect that and maybe the code prevents them from looking in...this being gods like Terentia, Viravain, Fain and Charune, not the "overgods" Roark and Estarra--the same way the help files say a secret background won't be revelaed except to "the most powerful gods". I don't think the fulcruxes are private to prevent just the players from being watched.

Of course I'm sure any god could override this in their roles as the Orenori and Norns, but that is rarely done. Remember, there are rules to being divine--and that whole controversy with Hajamin was based in part of a god overstepping the assigned role by using "root" access.

I'm also under the hope that Privacy Gems, if their intended effect is to stop people seeing your actions/what you say, would also hinder God characters via the code and not just the people who play them having to decide if they respect the player's desire to have it be secret or not. As is, it's not like having a room classed as private does much to stop other mortal characters, as rarely would you get a Dreamweaver inside your manse, or have another person there physically without you knowing.

Nothing stops a god from watching. The only thing is that a god might be more inclined to not listen if you're in a private room, just out of some sort of respect, or morality. But that tiiiny possibility is as close as you're getting to stopping a god from watching you.
Soll2006-08-25 20:55:37
Then, I hate that all you get for 100 credits is a silly line in your room that says something akin to 'A sense of privacy pervades the air.'
Unknown2006-08-25 21:22:35
Well, Estarra, at one point, was thinking of changing it to be akin to a Gem of Cloaking, but now manses are seperate areas, so i'm guessing the need for that has been removed to an extent. Though you could still ask for that, to have privacy within your own manse.
Minerva2006-08-25 21:28:21
Change it to like a manse wide cloaking gem. That would be awesome.

Manses are already protected from WHO to people outside your manse blink.gif

Privacy gems in Achaea stopped me from being able to listen in on other people's tells.
Shakaya2006-08-26 02:19:01
However, cwho, gwho and owho all still work just fine if you have the planar skill to see everyone on the continent.
