I am tired. We all know that the english translation thingy in my brain turns off when I am tired. So I hope this post won't be as much a gibberish as I am afraid it will be. Here we go.
(added after finishing the post: as I was afraid, not as well formulated as I wanted it to be. Really wish I'd have been a native English speaker)
Since I am steadily straightening up several problems that have been haunting me for quite a long time, I believe I might eventually return to Lusternia.
Now here's the situation. I have grown attached to my last character, Aerenna. We all know (we do, right?) that the character is gone, but I intend to bring her back, with the skills, level, CR and GR of a fresh character, obviously, but with the intent of it being the same person as before.
IC reason: basically, second chance from the Fates, as unlikely as it may sound. I plan to using it as an excuse to modify the character's RP a bit, to make her more tolerable and less of a pain to deal with, the traumatic experience leaving her humbler, but wiser and less antisocial.
My question - will I be able to pull this off without making a non-RPer out of myself?
Or if this is not acceptable, is it because of the IC reasoning - should I try to invent a different one?
Or maybe a dead character should be left alone, even though I miss it? (yes, I know it's just some data on a server)
I want to hear your opinions. Do what you want, one might say - but as I've written already, I want to make sure it won't be viewed as an extremely cheesy, metagame, RP-breaking, godless act.

Well you suicided death is death if you ask me and I dident know you before you suicided so I cant say that I like or dislike you but I must say make a new person.
Shorlen2006-08-27 01:42:29
That exact thing happened for Nyla. I'm not sure they'll let you do it too. Remember that suicided characters with enough hours of playtime have their names added to the banned list so people can't pull what that guy pretending to be Aether tried to pull a long time ago when Aether suicided.

Yeah, I remember Nyla's situation. I just thought that:
1. It was a seperate event and won't happen again.
2. It was the admins' initiative, not Nyla's.
Well, if these two points are wrong, I might send them an e-mail. Better to get old skills than to start anew.

I don't see much of a problem with it, provided you're technically allowed to do it...
And don't worry about your language skills so much. If I didn't already know otherwise, I would think you're a native speaker. You're better with English than a lot of people I know (that have been speaking it their entire lives).

I think you should just make a new character. The old character may be one you really liked but its gone now. I think it'd be better all around to just let that character remain in memory. Besides, even if you did recreate it, its not the same and no one will be very pleased with having to treat it like it was.
Diamondais2006-08-27 01:47:25
Should start anew, means more work but actually helps you enjoy the game a bit more I found. Can still have the same roleplay and all, work to the same goals and not be the same person.
Will be good to have you back, that at least is for certain.

Honestly, I don't think it would be a good idea to attempt to bring back Aerenna and there is a chance that the admin won't let you do it either. Another solution that would allow some semblance of the attachment would be to create a character that would be her sibling, parent, or child.
Unknown2006-08-27 01:50:59
To the last 2 posters - the problem is that, in my mind it's more RP-breaking to create a new character with the same personality, or a new character who was related to the old one in any way, than to bring back the old one.
Regardless, it happened to Nyla, as Shorlen reminded me. Sending an e-mail with a question to the support. Let's see what they'll write.

If you come back, don't be so fatalistically negative this time! I'm not saying to be a free-love peddling hippy, but spreading defeatism and depression all the time really isn't fun for anyone
Shiri2006-08-27 01:53:13
I think you should create a new character if you think you can stand coming back. It doesn't have to have the same personality either, so you should probably try something other than Aerenna's.

Hm..I guess that really is a matter of opinion. People can be of like mind, interest and ambition.

Read the announce post where they discussed it. They said that they were ONLY doing it because he had asked within 24 hours of his suicide, and they wouldn't be doing it again.

For obvious reasons I can't read posts now.
But. Oh.
Well, I've sent the question to support anyway. It's not that they'll eat me alive for asking it, worst I'll receive is a reply saying "no".
Going to bed now. 4 AM.
Acrune2006-08-27 02:28:26
You should probably start fresh, but make sure you are ready for a new character either way, OOC. If you get as upset again as you have in the past, I don't think it'd be worth your time playing lusternia, new character or old.
Unknown2006-08-27 02:43:12
This is absolutely unacceptable. No one is allowed to do it - dead is dead. I made a long appeal to get Guido back but was told off quite firmly. They only made an exception once, for Nyla, which was quite stupid of them.
You could likely get away with a relative of Aerenna, or a similar character, though both are rather cheap methods of 'continuing' roleplay and would get you punted in a more intensive roleplaying mud.

Yeah, but who can blame them for wanting to keep Guido gone?
Unknown2006-08-27 02:53:18
Now, now, Guido. If were talking like that, then I guess you're lucky too, since you'd have never been unbanned from a more intensive roleplaying mud.
I guess its good for everyone that Lusternia is not such a mud then, I guess?

revive Cublet, the little cousin of Cuber
Laysus2006-08-27 04:40:45
I'd say make a new character, try to avoid the flaws that condemned Aerenna (i.e. bloody-minded negativity), and work from scratch.
