Nyla should never have been brought back, and that mistake should NOT be repeated again. You suicided for a very good reason, and you should stay gone. Go get a real life, and I say that with no negativity or hostility or Visaerisness.
I got a real life and it's quite charming.

Even if Aerenna would be brought back, and though you were fond of her interactions and personality, there were those particular times that ultimately led you to suicide her.
Starting fresh with a new outlook and no attachments from her, good or bad, would be more intertesting and would probably provide better gameplay. Though there's no stopping you from incorporating characteristics of her that you found to be good qualities for your roleplaying experience.
Oh, and create a character who could be my daughter.

I have to agree with the others that have said you should start afresh. If you restart Aerenna or make a new character with her personality, you're going to find yourself in the same headspace in under a week, and I don't think that is good for either you or the game.
Try a different org, even! Glomdoring has enough similarities to likely be appealing, and yet a fresh enough perspective to maybe reignite your interest.
Or Celest or Magnagora, if you want to try something completely different. Knowing as much as you do about Serenwilde, and the Serenguard particularly, I think you'll be too close to everything to really get a fresh start.

If you already suggested using the excuse of "reincarnation", having a different name doesn't mean that there can be no link between Aerenna and your newly portasl of fate traveler.
However, I don't see why you would seek to retain a link with a suicided character. There's no reason why your new one can't be very similiar to Aerenna without shouting out: It's me in another body!
Try some alts, or just the one you had in mind... have fun, and let go of that which has already gone by... I think you'd enjoy yourself more if you didn't have to carry the prejudice Aerenna might attract.

She'd have the good looks and positive view on life and the...hm...somethingness from her mother.

Ixion2006-08-27 11:18:11
Well OOCly, the suicide denotes you were serious about never playing again. You should greatly ponder why that was, and whether you really want to come back. That said, I don't really mind you coming back and enjoying Lusternia once more. To support you coming back RP-wise, I don't think it's a big deal. Heck... we had a -funeral- ceremony for Andrus because certain people were misinformed about his OOC status. Now he's back, and those who claimed he was never coming back and why probably felt rather foolish. So.. between that and Nyla, you have both IC and OOC precedents for coming back.
Unknown2006-08-27 15:15:07
Maybe they should just make characters who have more than X hours unsuicidable. That would prevent people from making rash decisions in a fit of passion.

The Cat Came Back
Written By: Harry S. Miller (with later folk additions)

Old Mister Johnson had troubles of his own
He had a yellow cat which wouldn't leave its home;
He tried and he tried to give the cat away,
He gave it to a man goin' far, far away.
But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back, we thought he was a goner
But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.
Away, away, yea, yea, yea
The man around the corner swore he'd kill the cat on sight,
He loaded up his shotgun with nails and dynamite;
He waited and he waited for the cat to come around,
Ninety seven pieces of the man is all they found.
But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back, we thought he was a goner
But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.
Away, away, yea, yea, yea
He gave it to a little boy with a dollar note,
Told him for to take it up the river in a boat;
They tied a rope around its neck, it must have weighed a pound
Now they drag the river for a little boy that's drowned.
But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back, we thought he was a goner
But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.
Away, away, yea, yea, yea
He gave it to a man going up in a balloon,
He told him for to take it to the man in the moon;
The balloon came down about ninety miles away,
Where he is now, well I dare not say.
But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back, we thought he was a goner
But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.
Away, away, yea, yea, yea
He gave it to a man going way out West,
Told him for to take it to the one he loved the best;
First the train hit the curve, then it jumped the rail,
Not a soul was left behind to tell the gruesome tale.
But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back, we thought he was a goner
But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.
Away, away, yea, yea, yea
The cat it had some company one night out in the yard,
Someone threw a boot-jack, and they threw it mighty hard;
It caught the cat behind the ear, she thought it rather slight,
When along came a brick-bat and knocked the cat out of sight
But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back, we thought he was a goner
But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.
Away, away, yea, yea, yea
Away across the ocean they did send the cat at last,
Vessel only out a day and making water fast;
People all began to pray, the boat began to toss,
A great big gust of wind came by and every soul was lost.
But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back, we thought he was a goner
But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.
Away, away, yea, yea, yea
On a telegraph wire, sparrows sitting in a bunch,
The cat was feeling hungry, thought she'd like 'em for a lunch;
Climbing softly up the pole, and when she reached the top,
Put her foot upon the electric wire, which tied her in a knot.
But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back, we thought he was a goner
But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.
Away, away, yea, yea, yea
The cat was a possessor of a family of its own,
With seven little kittens till there came a cyclone;
Blew the houses all apart and tossed the cat around,
The air was full of kittens, and not a one was ever found.
But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back, we thought he was a goner
But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.
Away, away, yea, yea, yea
The atom bomb fell just the other day,
The H-Bomb fell in the very same way;
Russia went, England went, and then the U.S.A.
The human race was finished without a chance to pray.
But the cat came back the very next day,
The cat came back, we thought he was a goner
But the cat came back; it just couldn't stay away.
Away, away, yea, yea, yea

I've got to second Elryn, explore all the organizations and don't limit yourself to one character or organization, or gender, or class, or anything like that. If you come up with something completely differant and it makes you enjoy playing again, then all the better. If however you liked Serenguard but not Aerenna herself, then that works too.
Unknown2006-08-27 19:17:03
At one point or another, I tried some alts in other organisations - except Glomdoring, only the cities. I didn't spend a lot of time (barely graduated from novicehood on SOME of my alts, not even all of them), but enough to get a first impression.
And I can't say I liked it in Magnagora (didn't dislike it either, I was more lukewarm). I won't complain about newbies being treated roughly, because it fits the city's RP and is made on tolerable levels. But they seem to be ignored most of the time. No complaints apart from that.
I disliked Celest though. I tried it a few days after the war broke lose and was severely disappointed. HARDLY any help for newbies, even from undersecretaries (and some of the help received is inaccurate). Unnecessary guild requirements. Lack of organisation. And snuggly people. I see not a lot has changed since open beta. Or maybe I just came at a bad time.
Guess that leaves me with Glomdoring if I were to "try something new". However, I am for some illogical reason horribly biased against that forest.
Please correct me if I am wrong (and my apologies if my point of view is incorrect), but Glomdoring seems to be a place of RP-elitists who don't really appreciate PKing and prefer annoying semi-rituals, like screaming "nothing matters but Glomdoring" all over CT.

Diamondais2006-08-27 19:28:01
Well, only once as an alt was I ever made to do the 'nothing matters but Glomdoring' but I think thats because Xenthos taught me and Shayle was in the same room. The main impression Ive gotten from Glom is that theyre small but they do like to roleplay isolated strength, and it doesnt matter if they have villages or not theyre still strong at heart. Theyre really helpful when people are around, Shayle is a wonderfully attentive guildmistress and leader if you were to join the Shadowdancers. A few people in the Ebonguard will stop to chat with you if youre in the forest. The Blacktalon are attentive to their young, they often check to see how everyones doing and so on.
Unknown2006-08-27 19:33:24
Its not that Glom doesn't appreciate PK, its that we don't have enough people who fight. I really like S.D. and B.T. simply because the leaders and undersec. are helpful and nice. I like B.T. because I feel that you're more immersed into the RP since quite a few of the members speak in Crow Speak so it gives more indepth to the society. 'sides Xavius be da GM! Yeralih's the GA! and Nirrti is GC! Even when it comes to the point of being annoying, BT is constantly making sure the Fledgings are a.o.k. And the motto you don't have to say it. Only do it if you want. Like Yeralih told Ksilrinda once that she didn't have much of a shouting voice, so that's the reason she doesn't reply with "Glory be to Glomdoring" when someone does the "Nothing Matters except Glomdoring."
Valarien2006-08-27 19:38:30
Well.
In reality, we're no more Rp-Nazi than any other place, it's just ours is a bit more... Well, yes, we're pretty much ing nuts. Yeah, most of us are also pretty hardcore with the fanaticism and worship to certain deities, again going with the kinda-insane bit.
However, that being said, my experiences with the BT and the SD are nothing short of absolutely *Marvelous*. Exceedingly attentive to newbies, helpful, and a *very* strongly developed Roleplay with many different routes for lifestyle and personal developement (Providing you can keep with the 'Nothing Matters' bit). Haven't dealt much with the Ebonguard to be honest, but their mentoring and teaching style seems to work out just fine.
I'll be among the first to admit that Glomdoring isn't well-known for fighters, something I'm not pleased with, but there are those among us working to change that. Yes, being in Glomdoring won't grant you a large number of raiding opportunities like, say, Magnagora would. However, to base everything off of the inherent bias you possess is a bit limiting to yourself, wouldn't you say?
I guess, if you're only looking for PK, join Mag. They've got wonderful fighting opportunities and absolutely delicious roleplay to go with. If you're looking to try something different and new, give Glomdoring a try. Just don't stand back and refuse for no good reason.

Kaalak2006-08-27 20:16:11
I disagree. You can have a lot of fun roleplaying in Magnagora, but you have to seek it out. Balizar is a great roleplayer and can teach a young novice quit a bit, as long as you are respectful. By far I found the most roleplaying opportunities in the Nihilists. Vauraguli and Nigredo set up the guild trials to encourage roleplaying, and they respect people who work on their character, no matter how outré. Yes Magnagora can be harsh on novices, but they simply expect people to be more independent.
I won't complain about newbies being treated roughly, because it fits the city's RP and is made on tolerable levels. But they seem to be ignored most of the time. No complaints apart from that.
My experience was different. Novices were regularly asked how they were doing and if they had any questions. And if you wanted more help, you could always join the City Lyceum.
I have found less roleplaying in Celest, but that’s because Celest is in constant conflict with two cities and I have been more interested in fighting/coding my system than roleplaying. Still, I’ve had some really incredible roleplaying conversations with Head Archivist Neerth. Here’s an excerpt where Neerth is grilling me on the laws of New Celest:
Head Archivist Neerth: "What if you, a
kinsmen, decide that in a particular situation, one of the city laws is
counterproductive or unwise? Are you in the right to violate it, in the right
circumstances?"
You say, in Elfen, "In that case I would seek audience with a member of the
Star Council, or failing that at City Aide."
You say, in Elfen, "And ask advice."
Head Archivist Neerth, Patriarch of Japhiel says, in Elfen "Assume you've done
so, and one of the council members tells you to violate the law, the other
tells you not to."
You put your hands on your hips and go "Hmmm!"
You say, in Elfen, "I would say no."
Looking at you with a frown, Neerth asks "Why?"
You say, in Elfen, "Unless the issue if life-threatening. I would err on the
side of tradition."
Neerth ponders the situation.
You say, in Elfen, "If the matter were truly pressing then one could work
through proper channels."
You say, in Elfen, "Petition to revise the law and such."
Head Archivist Neerth, Patriarch of Japhiel says, in Elfen "And if it were
life-threatening? Unless you break this law, your beloved mentor Neerth will
die ... or I've already died, and nobody can resurrect me and you want to
immolate me despite the ban?"
You say, in Elfen, "Then I'm getting you out and to Nil with the consequences."
You cough softly.
You say, in Elfen, "Sorry. Old habit."
A wry smile spreads across Neerth's face.
You say, in Elfen, "What is immolate anyway."
Head Archivist Neerth, Patriarch of Japhiel says, in Elfen "Submerging a corpse
in the Pool of Stars to revive it."
You say, in Elfen, "What does that do?"
Archivist Neerth, Patriarch of Japhiel says, in Elfen "The same as a
resurrection. It costs the Nexus quite a bit of power though."
You put your hands on your hips and go "Hmmm!"
Head Archivist Neerth, Patriarch of Japhiel says, in Elfen "Hence the law
against it."
You say, in Elfen, "In that case Mentor, regrettably, the needs of the States
must supersede that of the individual."
Head Archivist Neerth, Patriarch of Japhiel says, in Elfen "I agree."
You say, in Elfen, "And I withdraw my previous statement."
"Good!" Neerth enthuses at you.
You raise an eyebrow questioningly.
Head Archivist Neerth, Patriarch of Japhiel says, in Elfen "Some laws are in
place for reasons more complicated than we have thought of, or can think of at
a dire moment."
You nod your head emphatically.
Head Archivist Neerth, Patriarch of Japhiel says, in Elfen "And if we are
thoughtful and wise and still think the law is wrong, then you're right - we
should work to change it."
Head Archivist Neerth, Patriarch of Japhiel says, in Elfen "Should, and must,
in fact."
You say, in Elfen, "Indeed."
Head Archivist Neerth, Patriarch of Japhiel says, in Elfen "But while a law is
in place, it is part of our Covanent - our promise to the Supernals and to our
fellow kinsmen."
Head Archivist Neerth, Patriarch of Japhiel says, in Elfen "Not only should we
not break those promises - even if we're wise enough to see a better way - but
also we can't count on others to see our example and say 'that was a rare
exception'."
You have emoted: Kaalak listens.
Head Archivist Neerth, Patriarch of Japhiel says, in Elfen "Usually they'll say
'the laws aren't important'."
You say, in Elfen, "True."
Head Archivist Neerth, Patriarch of Japhiel says, in Elfen "Or 'I'll obey the
laws unless it benefits me not to.'"
Head Archivist Neerth, Patriarch of Japhiel says, in Elfen "So if I'm dying,
and the only way to save me is to violate the Covanent ... then yes, hold
yourself back."
This was a lot of fun, and it made a potentially very dry law test interesting.
Roleplaying is there in Celest, you just have to look for it.
