I don't like ideas that replace existing 'real' objects with MUSH-like purely descriptive versions. If this was something we didn't already have, sure. But why not just design your own custom clothing?
Even though free, unapproved clothing might sound fun, I don't think it will in any way improve Lusternia.
Edit:
WEAVE GLAMOUR ADD trousers sexy red latex leggings with a large opening for his and balls.
Oh yes, but no-one would ever think of abusing such a skill.

Does it really matter when someone can just write that in their desc anyway?

In that case, it is clearly a violation of roleplay. If descriptions are really bad and describe objects that don't exist, rolepoints can be docked. If you're weaving illusions, anything goes.

But hey, they sell daggers of reincarnation and cameos of the changling! If you want to change race, buy them, and don't use some illusion to fake it!
Sure. Sounds good to me!

Because, in all reality, we're incredibly limited?
Great robes are the only source of armor. I don't think that it's wrong for someone with the power of illusions to maaaybe want something a bit more stylish to conceal his/her armor.
If there was a Great Rune to turn any article of clothing into Great robe level protection, it would be different, but there isn't.

My major problem with this is that it makes Mages even better RPers than everyone else. Illusions is already an awesome skillset. There has to be a limit to what it can do, or it's just unfair for everyone else. It might sound silly, but I think it's just as bad to throw off RP balance as it is to throw off combat balance.

That's a rediculous argument. You're creating a straw man there. If there are rules for normal illusions (which there are), then why wouldn't there be rules for these? You can't go around weaving porno scenes at the Pool of Stars and get away with it. So wtf makes you think weaving an offensive glamour would be ok?

I wouldn't mind if it was in dramatics then, which already has genderbend.
Edit: For Dramatics, it could just be DISGUISE CONCEAL, DISGUISE ADD, DISGUISE LIST, DISGUISE REMOVE
Xenthos2006-08-28 01:36:05
What if it didn't allow you to design your own, but simply to pick ones that are already in existence (and have been approved)? You'd need to know the correct design number for that item, and you couldn't just "guess" or it wastes power each attempt.
So pay a tailor to submit a design for you, get the number, use it.

Wow I completely agree with you here. Either way it would be abused regardless if it were in the desc, put in this new glamour skill or even emoted. There is no anything goes with anything.

That would work for the disguise version, for Dramatics, yeah. And I actually like that idea.

Narsrim twist: How about an ability in illusions (we'll call it glamour) that makes you appear as someone else on WHO/QW/BW. All it does is sub the name of whoever you pick to become. All abilities like scry, window, scent, etc... are in no way effected.

That's utterly pointless, except so people don't know you're around until you jump them.

Wouldn't that just be a near-free, barely weaker version of a 400 credit artifact gem?

..in Achaea its a tattoo. And they still have the Veil of the Sphinx, is it? Which is the same as the Gem of Cloaking here? Its considered a worthless tattoo by most too.

Doesn't the veil also interfere with scrying? Doesn't really matter though, Lusternia and Achaea are very different. In Lusternia, if I were to wear a glamor of some Nihilist novice, I could likely just roam around Nil and be fine, much like if I had a gem. The same situation doesn't really occur often in Achaea.
Sylphas2006-08-28 15:57:43
Veil doesn't even compare to cloak. Veil removes you from who lists, and all attempts to scry you show nothing, like you're not around.
