HELP NOTABLES

I think it's Imperian that has a help file called HELP NOTABLES, listing the mortals that were involved in important admin and player-run events, as well as people who are generally notorious and well-estabilished. I think that might be the one kind of reward for politics/leadership/roleplay that most people would find acceptable, and it would involve 0 coding effort (Although, admittedly, some research and writing effort) so I'm proposing it.

Achaea and Aetolia also have that.

Its amazingly out of date. I remember the Achaea one had some people listed for my guild that I never heard of the and the guild leaders didn't know who they were either.
Noola2006-08-28 18:48:14
They didn't list why the people were notable? Just that they were?
Sylphas2006-08-28 18:56:46
They listed why, but it hadn't been updated in RL years. Many of them were guild founders and such.
Verithrax2006-08-28 18:58:52
The listed their notability, yes. For example:

Verithrax: Partially insane, notoriously selfish and amoral ex-aquamancer ex-pacifist known for being one of the few people exhiled from New Celest for treason involving domestic spying, and one of the many people killed and disfavoured by Terentia in rapid succession. Currently a ranking member of the Geomancers.

EDIT: Actually, this is the kind of thing that can be done by player-run orgs.
Daganev2006-08-28 19:19:06
HELP Noteable either said things like

Tranquility: Founded the Ashura Monks

Or things like

Bambi: Completed the quest X.

Even though Tranquility was known for his fighting robot techniques, and not for his founding of the monks, and Bambi was known for being Graced for the lognest time and getting lots of levels from Questing alone.

I actually would like this idea, since when I started playing I looked for it. Since I came from Impy, I though there would be a notable scroll but I was kind of sad when I didn't find one.

I think it'd be good for us, just to see who has done what over the years.

I wish the books in the library could be updated to do something like this.

Maybe I confused what I read, but in the helpfile doesn't it say that after the consideration period on a published book is over, it can be updated?

Cool, my wish was granted tongue.gif

I'm not all that current on library mechanics and book editing.

Actually, whatever happened to Tully's Who's Who?

People got mad as to who was included and who wasn't, and then tully ran out of time for it.

Also, just in General, an IC attempt at Noteables would not go over well in Glomdoring for philisophical reasons. 1. if you are notable, you must be doing something wrong and 2. glorfying individuals is not a thing glomdoring should do.
Verithrax2006-08-28 19:57:26
Most other organizations don't have that kind of soul-crushing anti-individualism.

lets pretend the Illuminati exists. Do you know who the leader of that group is? is his individualism being crushed because his name isn't plastered on every campaign ad of every major world leader's political campaign?
Ashteru2006-08-28 20:14:25
but you know who the leaders of Glom are...
Unknown2006-08-28 20:40:25
Actually, I still plan on doing this, but since I only get to play about an average of 3-6 hours a week, I found writing was harder work than I thought. I'm actually spending some time trying to write a creative bardic of "How Tully saved Ialie from Assassination from aetherpirates". I'll try to get back on this book though.

But why can't others write their own histories--should it really be hard-coded or do you have to wait for Estarra to make the decisions about who's notable? The closest thing I've seen for this is perhaps the "Permanent Enemies" list I once saw in the Serenwilde help files.

One thing I'd love to do OOC is create a couple of entries "Marvel Universe Handbook" style, just for fun.
Verithrax2006-08-28 20:53:23
I'd love to see that.
Estarra2006-08-28 21:00:10
I'm quite familiar with HELP NOTABLES and the reason Lusternia doesn't have it is because of the problems found in other games: 1) impossible for admins to keep it updated in any meaningful way, and 2) endless complaints from players about a) not being included, b) including someone who shouldn't be included (in someone's opinion), and c) not accurately describing events. In other words, it would be a rainy day in Nil before I'd subject ourselves to it.

That being said, I wouldn't mind a system where cities/communes write and update their own notable files (though I warn you that you'd subject yourselves to the same issues mentioned above).

Should put it on the pillars of laws, since those pillars arn't used for laws.

For example.

A pillar is here with notable figures from Magnagora:
(A list of the old leaders of the great houses)
Daevos: Our fearless leader
Furloch: First trade minister to rob us blind
etc

Then in the other room it could say
A pillar is here with notable figures from Serenwilde:
(A list of recent players since they have no historical figures)
Ialie: Most feared combatant to all of Celest.
etc

Then in the other room it could say
A pillar is here with notable figures from Glomdoring:
NOTHING MATTERS BUT GLOMDORING!

Glom would have two pillers to say the same? tongue.gif

(Im really just teasing)
