I just submitted these new scroll designs. What do you think, and most importantly, would you buy them?
--------------------------
Scroll for Deepnight Silverscribe pattern
Item: Scroll Type: Scroll Org: Silverscribe;
Commodities: Silver 1, leather 1; Gold Outlay: 1000;
IMPORTANT: The main noun of this item MUST use this name: SCROLL;
Appearance: an official scroll of Deepnight;
Dropped: An elegant scroll of black and silver lies here, bearing the symbol of the City of Deepnight.
Examined:
This elegant scroll of crisp white vellum is bordered by an arabesque of tiny silver leaves. The slightly luminescent vellum is as smooth as silk, yet exceptionally resilient, a testament to quality craftsmanship. On the bottom right of the scroll, an imposing ebony ‘R’ circumscribed by a square has been scribed with delicate calligraphy. When held up to the light, the pale watermark of a panther under a moon is revealed. A cord of night black leather, sparkling with motes of silver, serves to bind the scroll.
----------------------------
Illuminated Scroll Goldenquill pattern
Item: Scroll Type: Scroll Org: Goldenquill.
Commodities: wood 1 goldtint 1;
Gold Outlay: 1000
IMPORTANT: The main noun of this item MUST use this name: SCROLL
Appearance: a vibrant illuminated scroll
Dropped: An illuminated scroll lies unfurled here, displaying its vibrant colours.
Examined:
This scroll of stiff, cream-coloured parchment crackles to the touch and smells of dust, a sign of its antiquity. Three intertwining lines of pure gold run along the edges of the scroll, forming a captivating pattern of intricate golden knots. In the spaces between the knot-work are barely seen images of animals and fae. Tiny bears, fawns, and foxes cavort with brownies, elfen, and pixies. Embossed in the upper right corner is a coiling ember-coloured dragon, its fangs bordering the first letter of the text. A long scroll case of sturdy white ash serves to protect the work.

You can't have proper nouns in the short, long or dropped description, unfortunately. You'll have to describe in such a way that it is obvious it is a deepnight scroll without actually saying so.
They look nice though apart from that.

Actually, HELP TRADEMASTER seems to imply proper nouns are allowed:
COMMON MISTAKES
---------------
4) Organization names should be capitalized.
"tunic of a Ur'Guard novice"

I'll submit your stuff sometime this weekend Kaalak, and review and make sure it's submitted correctly...be patient with me, I'm still figuring out the design process.
Let's spice up the book market. ;-)

The look good from my perspective. I especially like the Deepnight one.
Verithrax2006-09-02 13:20:36
Would be better if we could copy a book into a design different from the original. I want a copy of Morgfyre's book that has an ouroboros on the cover.
Sylphas2006-09-02 14:50:47
I've never understood copying. It should require a blank book of the same size as the one to be copied, and then just tranfer it over.

Yeah, but the design will remain the same. You'd have to come up with a competely new design that described the image being on the front.

Hmm, someone needs to either change the file or tell the Charities. I know many designs that had 'Mother Moon', 'Hartstone', etc were rejected because we weren't allowed to refer to them directly.
Verithrax2006-09-02 23:49:05
It's true, could we get a real policy statement on that? Including why proper nouns aren't allowed?
Unknown2006-09-03 06:09:55
because apparently people can't be expected to just "recognize" things.
Which is retarded, because it doesn't apply to Artifact customization, and its like saying that people in our modern age don't recognize Jesus, or the Star of David, or prominent flag at just a glance.
Its a really stupid rule that has never made any sense.
Oh, and another thing that annoys me--You can't describe things made out of crystal as being made out of glass. Even though the message for fusing vials describes it as glass.
I'm sorry, but sometimes the Admin are just really irrational when it comes to designs.

How did you get to use the word crystal? I wanted a crystal dagger, but had to call it diamond because that was the closest commodity.

I didn't. It ended up having to be Emerald slippers, rather than glass slippers. I just typed crystal because... well.. its just what got typed I just think its stupid, beause both glass and crystal are perfectly suitable descriptors. Plus, it sort of contradicts the rule about proper names.
If I see a dagger made of a clear gem-like substance, i'm going to liken it to crystal, and not know its daimond at a glance.

Rational has never been a word associated with design approvals in this or any other IRE game I've been in. Nor the word consistent for that matter.

Hey, thank you for all the compliments and feedback.
Would be better if we could copy a book into a design different from the original. I want a copy of Morgfyre's book that has an ouroboros on the cover.
Verithrax: Has anyone made a Morgfyre themed book?
Secondly, is there a list somewhere of the Special commodities that can be used in trade goods? For example: the Orc bone wand requires an orc, one of the goldenquill scrolls requires a seashell, etc.

I literally wrote the book on Morgfyre.

Ask your friendly neighborhood trademaster, or, if you are one, do DESIGN LISTCOMMS.

So here was the official responce for the Deepnight scroll:
Response:
We do not accept entity/org based designs, in addition to it breaking rules in
the appearance, starting with a capital letter
It looks like you can't have proper nouns.

Next scroll Design. Hope the admin approves
Scroll for Deepnight Silverscribe pattern---
Item: Scroll Type: Scroll Org: Silverscribe;
Commodities: Jade 1, wood 1; Gold Outlay: 1000;
IMPORTANT: The main noun of this item MUST use this name: SCROLL;
Appearance: a long scroll bearing the image of a crane
Dropped: a long scroll has fallen open here, exhibiting the magnificent charcoal image of a crane.
Examined:
This long scroll of eggshell white is formed from delicate paper slightly rough to the touch. Minute green fibers in the paper indicate the scroll was crafted from river reeds. Pale black watercolors describe symbols of joy and harmony around the border. The authors name is signed here in block-like calligraphy penned with vibrant red ink. On the reverse is the magnificent charcoal sketch of a crane about to take flight, its wingtips brushing the edges of the scroll. Thick precision strokes of charcoal give the crane a startlingly life-like appearance, displaying the art of a master. A ring of thick green jade, carved with symbols of good fortune, serves to hold the scroll furled.
