Same for the Serenguard, at least somewhat.
High Chief of the Serenguard Lodge (GA)
Lodge Chief (Sec)
Lodge Keeper (UnSec)
That definitely shows a connection.
And The Great Chieftain of the Seren (GM) shows a definite connection to the Seren people as a whole, not just the guild.

The Serenguard Champion title used to be "The Protector of the People".
Everiine2006-09-05 17:11:29
Yep. Given to the first Protector by the Centaur leaders themselves. I actually wish it still was that title.
Hmm, that reminds me, need to reformat that book...

QUOTE(Shayle)
Well, unlike others, I really like how the GA/GM/Champion thing works. I think it encourages the appointments of quality individuals, rather than just who the GA/GM/Champion's friends are. I think it encourages teamwork and communication between leaders. I also think it discourages any one leader being the sole authority in a guild.
See below please.
QUOTE
THE UR'GUARD GUILD
Guildmaster: Asarnil (Supreme Commander of the Armies of Darkness)
Guild Administrator: Kayde (Commandant of the Tower)
Guild Champion: Ildaudid (The Queen's Own Torturer)
Divine Patron: Morgfyre, the Legion
Guild Envoy: Graal (Damnation's Advocate)
Security: Daevos, Marlucia, Ildaudid, Rakor, Marcalo, and Lyco
Protectors: Ethelon and Haiden
Secretaries: Draston, Alger, Jadryga, Karnagan, and Vika
Undersecretaries: Faerdon, Graal, Kuse, Meshora, Haiden, Marcalo, and Lusien
Colour code - Red are the people related to Marcalo and Kayde either by birth or marriage, green are inactive people who I haven't seen in ages and are only really still there due to nobody wanting to get rid of them or sheer inertia and half of those who aren't inactive I never see do what they are supposed to do.
Then there are people that I want to get placed as UnderSec because I want to make them Secretaries because they are of use to me in trying to get the guild up and running properly, whereupon I get flat-out ignored by the Guild Admin while someone who is slightly dormant due to moving and internet issues gets put up, as well as me being dictated at to make certain people who are related to her Secretaries as well. The only appointment I have actually made myself really was Vika to a full Secretary, because even though she is yet another person related to the De'Unneros, she is one of the few people I can work with and trust to act like an Ur'Guard should.
Not to mention that I have already been threatened by someone in a certain family that they can have me replaced with anyone that they wanted if they don't like what I do. From where I am sitting, there is really nothing at all wrong with the Guild system as is.
EBWOP: Not to mention that the Guildmaster has no real power at all, other than to sit there and put up with shit day in and day out - when it comes to the city he is overruled by the Warlord etc, when it comes to the guild he is overruled by the Guild Admin/Champion - the only thing he is there to do IS sit there, look pretty and put his name to whatever is shoved in front of him - there is pretty much no point in having the position at all.
Everiine2006-09-06 00:42:51
Hmm. Our GM always has the final say on matters. It's not about game mechanics there. It's about RP. The High Chief runs the guild, but especially on important things, the Great Chieftain can rule differently. We go with what she says because she's the Great Chieftain, our superior.
Asarnil2006-09-06 00:51:48
Tell that to my damned guild then. I knew I was in for a rough haul in a position I didn't really want when I contested Marcalo just to try and get the guild into SOME sort of shape, but I have been ignored so often since I took it over that I am starting to have doubts on wether I really want to continue to play anymore - its starting to remind me of what I put up with for so long on Imperian.
Hell it was so bad that I had two Ur'Guard come uninvited into my closed office (one a bit after the other) the other day and proceed to go off at each other like it was a really bad episode of Jerry Springer for like 10-20 minutes.

Vika is Kalas...well, I hope she still is.
Asarnil2006-09-06 01:01:14
Engaged to Marlucia or Haiden from memory, but unless she goes completely cuckoo I think she will always be a Kalas.
Everiine2006-09-06 01:04:23
Ah, as big as the Talnaras are, they don't control everything. That feels good. I don't think I'd survive in one of the orgs where one family is in control of everything.
Hazar2006-09-06 01:06:38
Hmm. In my guild, the GM ultimately rules everything. He frequently says 'Well, this is just a commune position, the GA runs the guild', but then proceeds to run a third of the guild structure, overrule other's ideas, and then when he gives an idea, the GA goes 'yessir'.
So...I guess this is just a matter of personalities and guild history.

I see what you're saying. I do not experience what you are saying.
In the Shadowdancers, Shayle has the final say, but honestly, she also really trusts the people she's got working with her, and vice versa. Plus, our rp is pretty rigid, so it's rare to see a whole lot of disagreement.
So maybe we're the exception and not the rule.
On another note, the whole being threatened to be replaced, mafia-esque thing is absurdly lame. Make your changes. When you do good for your guild, people will notice.

Old Serenwilde, Mes'ards. They're still pretty high up.

It's also the sign of someone saying more than they can really control. If someone's threatening that, I'd seriously suggest outguilding them and making an example of them as a beginning of consolidating your power.
Shiri2006-09-06 01:25:46
I so enjoy that someone thought of the Talnaras first for major Serenwilde family.

They're the only ones I know. I forgot about the Mes'sard, and since the La'Saet turned on Seren their out.
Unknown2006-09-06 01:46:52
I would have said Mes'sard, but the Talnaras seem to be more prominent these days.
Laysus2006-09-06 01:48:44
Mes'ards > Talnaras
