An idea to prevent off-hour raiding

I've come up with something that I think, would actually work.

The way this goes is simply, if a secretary or security of the guild associated with a particular set of ents (Geomancers for Earth lords, Celestines for Supernals, Nihilists for Demon Lords, Aquamancers for Tide Lords, Moondancers for Aspects and Shadowdancers for Avatars) sends one of said ents a tell, said ent does a 'heroic sacrifice' to protect itself and others. The other entities are pumped up and become essentially unkillable for two IC days, at the cost of the ent that received the tell dying (With all associated issues) and a cost of Power. This is something that you wouldn't sanely do during any raid, but which would allow someone to just say, "this is hopeless - let's cut our losses".
Tsuki2006-09-03 01:34:49
Just to clarify, Moondancers and Shadowdancers have "Avatars" (of Moon or Night). "Aspects" are the memories/dreams of Hart/Crow.
Shamarah2006-09-03 01:35:34
Um, what? No.

*Raziela is shielding, about to die*
*Tell raziela sacrifice*
*Raziela dies, like she would have anyway, and the other Supernals are immortal*

Not to mention the problems with the fact that Supernals/Demon Lords defend each other, and this is a pretty lame idea anyway.
Tsuki2006-09-03 01:37:39
Right, that too. Besides, we obviously prefer using the effects of raids to build up our grudges against the other organizations who raided. happy.gif
Verithrax2006-09-03 01:50:02
Right, this is broken beyond belief. What was I thinking?

Maybe the effect only works on mobs that aren't aggressive? (IE, you have to sacrifice someone that hasn't been attacked, and to help those that haven't yet been attacked.

For reasons I stated elsewhere, there should be an incentive for raiding when people can defend. It's not a hugely serious issue (IE, it doesn't affect me personally and is only really frustrating for two guilds) but it nags me.
Sylphas2006-09-03 02:48:27
Incentive for raiding while enough people are around that someone won't whine? That would be the sweet taste of failure, with a bit of glorious death to go along with it.
Abethor2006-09-03 03:02:13
As said by others, this probably won't fly.

People play from different timezones. It's bad enough that wildnodes is on at a time that I can never participate in. If the admins started coding the game to be geared soley towards American hours I would probably quit.
Melanchthon2006-09-03 04:54:57
Really don't see why raiding at any time of the day is an issue.

Wildnodes' time is now random. It can start up to 4 hours early or be 4 hours late, maybe more. That's a pretty big window.

It is? Hmm I missed that change. That's good, though I think I'll still miss it. Four hours earlier I'm still asleep, four hours later is about lunch time and I'm usually at work...I think.

"Up to" implies a range of anywhere in between! happy.gif

I think his point was that it's still morning for him, and he can only play in the evenings after work.

Four hour variance means I could potentially catch the second half though. chin.gif Guess I've just been unlucky so far?

When is that? How can anyone be certain of when an org has enough fighters to defend? How do you define a fighter competant enough to defend? How do you know how many people you need to adequately defend? Does that depend on WHAT is raided?

Too many variables.
Verithrax2006-09-04 01:55:05
Doesn't invalidate my argument. 'Should' and 'is feasible' are two entirely different things. tongue.gif

Verithrax, your sig is awesomenosity.

I hate to bring this up -again-, but Verithrax has a point.
Perhaps the way he seeks to prevent off-hour raids isn't flawless, the idea is.
It is hard to grasp how annoying it is not being able to properly defend 'your' planes because the raiders simply outnumber you. There has to be some kind of built-in mechanism to prevent abuse of, say, 3 adventurers being online in Magnagora, 30 in Celest, Celest kicking the crap out of Magnagora, Magnagora working their asses around the clock to restore damage done in 5 minutes, only to get their butts kicked again the next day.

That's just an example of how I experienced it in-game, but there has to be something one can do to prevent such idiocy from happening?

Glomdoring would never be attackable... happy.gif

Who cares about Glomdoring? They could be kept outside of the anti-off-hour-raid-mechanism-weave-in-thing-a-ma-jig happy.gif

Just as long as MY scrawny arse is saved, I'm fine with anything tongue.gif
