Or they could have just randomized a bit.
On a related, ranting note, I hate powergamers who will abuse anything possible until it's changed, though 95% of people will never bother.

Alright, so ideas. The entire point of nymphs are either to help bashing, or to hinder loyals. In mythology, nymphs are female nature spirits, usually of trees or water. Dryads are basically tree nymphs, and kelpies would take the role of water nymphs, so real life mythology doesn't help. Ah well.
Actually, Nymphs and Kelpies are different.
Kelpies were often male humanoid, who could shapeshift, and would often appear as a white horse to people near water. The person would jump on the horse, and be stuck, and the horse would leap into the water drowning its victim.

You could still do the same, with seize.
Sylphas2006-09-05 21:36:53
True. Eh, bashing here blows anyway, it's why I always stop at or before 75. 3k health and I'm fine. If I want to bash, I'll play WoW.

I was able to kill Marani Veloske without being hit using nymph. Thus, I would argue this is more of a "balance" to nymph than a "downgrade" and thus requires no upgrade compensation.
It should have been (+/-) 4 seconds randomly, not -3 seconds to +40 seconds randomly. That would stop people like you from abusing it, and it would let everyone else keep using it like they always do.

You know better. I know many Moondancers who bash gorgogs exclusively using nymph and don't get hit. I've seen, for years, Moondancers kill Dreaming Manifestations using nymph timing. Tuek slew Night Avatars with nymph long ago.
You can play dumb if you desire, but the fact is this was a common tactic used by many people... and it has been used this way since day 1.

The question remains.. why didn't you bring it up back then? Oh, that's right, you're Narsrim, and so long as you have the skill, its called "tactics", but when you don't, you want to see it "balanced".

Nymph was changed behind the scenes to not effect many many creatures as a result of this (almost all major denizens were changed such that nymph would not effect them including demon lords, avatars, supernals, astral, most aggressive creatures, etc). I did bring it up back then... and there were some changes made. Of course, you knew that... right?

I wasn't talking about Supernals/Demon Lords/Avatars, but rather the bashing aspect.

Umm, I do believe I listed more than Supernals, Demon Lords, Avatars. Nice attempt to recover though.
Sylphas2006-09-05 22:18:34
Actually, there shouldn't be any problem with people never getting hit by gorgogs. You can either bash normally, with a four second base equilibrium on Moonburst (I believe), or time with your nymph and do it three times more slowly.

Except for the fact that you talked about how people were immune to non-aggressive creatures still.. and there's quite a bit of non-aggressive bashing.
Nice attempt to deflect with nothing but your ego.

If the Nymph was used to game bashing so someone was invulnerable, fine, that needed adjusted. Now, however, it's next to useless as far as I can see. It will very occasionally save us from having to sip. As my friends and I walk around the office all day saying: "Toot F ing toot".
Sylphas2006-09-06 02:03:17
That's what you do all day? How much do they pay you for that? All I do is sneak in overtime that I'm not paid for so that I can get all my work done.

I know, its just that having naiads (water nymphs) would sort of walk over what the kelpies are in Lusternia. As in, kelpies are the water spirits in Lusternia, nymphs shouldn't be water spirits as well. That's why I said kelpies have taken the role of water spirits.
So maybe we all agree that nymph might need a little balancing. The arguement would then be how much you want to balance it. Narsim's argument is that Dancers can bash non-agressive mobs without getting hit once. While others say that it is now useless in its current form. So perhaps we can have a middle ground, which I think Zenji's idea is perfect for this. No overpowered invulnerable bashing Dancers, and nymph gets to help with bashing again.

There's actually a water nymph in Serenwilde. Her IH name is "naiad" too.

Ill bet she secretly follows Lake, and when Ackleberry comes back she'll run straight there.
