Subj: Healing scrolls

I knew I forgot to announce something in the last post -- healing
scrolls will now heal slightly more than before and the bug that a few
of you had where you couldn't recover scroll balance should have been
fixed.

I've done some testing and it seems mindblast is reasonably easy to cover with sipping, sparkleberry, and healing scroll. Given this, I just thought everyone who has been complaining about it should be happy.

You blast the mind of Narsrim with a ferocious telepathic assault.
A blinding pain explodes behind your eyes, which begin to tear up with blood.

You take a drink from an emerald vial.
The potion heals and soothes you.
5370h, 5748m, 4678e, 10p, 27806w esixkdb<>-
You eat a sparkleberry.
You feel your health, mana and ego replenished.
5370h, 6416m, 5247e, 10p, 27806w esixkdb<>-
You read a Scroll of Healing.
You feel an invigorating energy rush through you.
5370h, 6681m, 5698e, 10p, 27806w esixkdb<>-

You may drink another health, mana, or bromide potion.

Given mindblast opperates on a 6 second timer, it is possible to easily cover it now. Note I have 18 intelligence and 16 charisma, which is high-end.

You seem to forget that all healing is percentage based...and that you have a lot of everything.

But hey, I won't complain until I see the changes to psionics that Elryn announced to come soon.
Narsrim2006-09-05 18:04:44
You also forget that damage is percentage based too. Your argument is relatively insubstantial. Anyone with 3000 health/mana/ego should be able to keep up with mindblast easily now. As it stands, I will never ever die to a Telepath 1-on-1 now because with sip/berry/scroll, I easily outpace mindblast. If Telepathy becomes far easier to hinder, it will need come compensation - clear and simple.
Ashteru2006-09-05 18:06:26
Last I heard you did about 1k damage to each attribute of Shorlen, who's defenitly not in your range of anything...

And Telepathy does not need any boosts. You get hidden afflictions, you get psivampire which can easily decide a longer fight, you have mindblast which is awesome, and even though you try to revoke that fact, it doesn't really change it.

Instead of making absolutely worthless speculated comments, why don't you instead see if Shorlen will get someone to mindblast him and then sip health/eat sparkleberry/read healing scroll? I don't see why is always necessary to "assume" the worst possible hypothetical scenario.

I won't even try to argue civily with you, since you only follow your OWN understanding of balance, which vastly differs from real balance. You were in Seren, EVERY skill was alright and great and good, and DARE someone suggested to nerf them. Now you rant about how they have those skills, and that any nerfs to them are good.

I am done with this topic, it's just you looking to proof your own skewed facts again. rolleyes.gif
Narsrim2006-09-05 18:15:45
If asking for you to have Shorlen test is "proof of skewed facts," Shorlen must be in league with me... *ponder*

Conspiracy theory or absolutely worthless speculation (again)?

That's some pretty nice healing. Those things are expensive though.
Narsrim2006-09-05 18:38:35
Just to make my point, this is WITHOUT SIPPING:

Woo! I did 237 health damage, 0 mana damage, 0 ego damage without sipping. How is that remotely excessive? Answer: it isn't.
Daganev2006-09-05 18:55:37
No sipping. But yes healing.

Expensive? Healing scrolls are cheap! I buy Healing Scrolls in Celest at 1300-1500 gold. They come with 50 charges. 50 sparkleberry (at the current market price of 40 gold each) is 2000 gold. Healing scrolls are a boon to people unable to access a decent sparkleberry herbalist.
Daganev2006-09-05 18:58:58
I get sparkle for 30 each, which is 1500. Sparkleberry is expensive though. Infact, its the most expensive cure in the game.

With any luck, a large amount of gold, and some major kissing butt... I may be fortunate enough in the years to come to purchase some sparklies from Glom and their crazy sell prices.

I'll have to get me one of those, then.

However, while Glom sells sparklies for 30, the cube recharges cost is about 40 average, so I suppose it balances out tongue.gif

Great, another enchantment needed for fighting. doh.gif

Except I don't think you actually need an enchanter for them.

Bookbinders make the Healing scrolls, and they start out with 1 charge already, if I remember correctly, so you could technically have a commune bookbinder make them and then go find a cube.

But I haven't been a bookbinder for a long time, so my information might be off.
Everiine2006-09-05 19:23:09
I've never made a Healing Scroll, so I don't know. The AB file says you can have an enchanter put 50 charges on it, but it doesnt' say if it starts with one or not.

I'm pretty sure it does, because when you hit 0 charges, the scroll is no longer a healing scroll, and reverts to a Magical Scroll, I believe. Or decays. Or something really nasty.
Shamarah2006-09-05 19:29:28
All scrolls start with 1 charge and can be charged by an enchanter or cube up to 50 charges. If it hits 0 charges, it bursts into flame and vanishes. I'm not kidding.
