With the stat weighting thing, will having both actually give you +2 constitution? Or is it just +1?
Ekard2006-09-07 12:53:49
If you would have only those two strength buffs then they will give you +2 str.
Clise2006-09-07 13:41:56
Uh they are constitution buffs Ekard, but yes if you only have those 2, they give +2 constitution

Yes. See HELP BUFFS for details on how much weight you need for a point. Basically, it's +1 weight for +1 stat, +2 weight for +2 stat, then you need +2 weight for every +1 stat after that.

In other words, having Weathering and Yellow will give you +2, but having Weathering, Yellow, and a Con platter will still only give you +2. Weathering, Yellow, a Con platter, and a Favour will give you +3.

Alrighty then, Thanks all.

Can anyone tell me how astrology weighting works? Is +30% = +3? If so then what are +15% and +5%? And are things like asphyxiation resistance weighted?

Is it possible to have less than +1? Some skills in astrology say that they're raising my con but it's at normal for my race (descendant in particular).

Descent and the like don't raise con. They rase Health, or Mana, or Ego. They're worded poorly.

As for the other stuff, i'm not sure.

Would like the first three answered myself. Resistances are just by percent, as that would be the most logical way of thinking, but I'm not completely sure.

As for the second, Descendant doesn't actually raise constitution at all. It just raises your max. health (and by more than +1 constitution would). Same goes for Ascendant.

Worded very poorly, considering that they specifically say "raise your constitution" >.<

If an AB file blatently lies, TYPO it maybe?

Anyway, unless this was changed, +5% is +1, +10% is +1, + 15% is +2, +20% is +2. So, ignoring Papaxi randomness, Conjunct and Trine give +2 to a stat, Semisextile and Sextile give +1 to a stat, Quincux and Square give -1 to a stat, and Opposite gives -2 to a stat.

All of the above are stat weight bonuses, not pure stat bonuses. So, weathering(+1) and a +5% skull sphere(+1) is +2 to Con. Weathering(+1), Yellow(+1), a Con platter(+1), a divine favour(+1), and a +25% skull sphere (+3) is +7 weight, which is +4 to a stat according to the chart in HELP BUFFS.

The only thing I understood in Shorlen's post is "If an AB file blatently lies, TYPO it maybe?"
I never fiddled with astrology, nor math. sad.gif

Astrology is driving me up the wall >.< the buffs seem to be way more expensive than the small bonus they give. Can anyone tell me what stellium does, exactly? I think a lot of the costs are buggy too. If Aapek is negative it always takes 5 power to astrocast a sphere, no matter if it's quincunx, square or opposite. I had to try four times to get dolphin to give me a positive buff even though it was trine, because of papaxi I guess. One of the first times I tried astrology, there were five bodies in skull and two were retrograde and I got all excited because I could do three afflictions at once tongue.gif but I guess that's an incredibly rare thing. The four defences it gives seem rather iffy. And the rays were very confusing at first, but I think I have the hang of them. I'll need to figure out when they change signs though, so that I don't have to run off to deepnight in the middle of a fight, stargaze and come back tongue.gif
Sorry for the derail.

I am of the opinion that, though of interesting concept, Astrology is a terrible skillset and one nearly impossible to make useful. The problem is that if if is generally useful, then on good days it will be overpowered. As it stands now, it's really nice on good days, and completely worthless the rest of the time. It's hard to make it better without making stellium instakill during a syzygy.

Speaking of which, Stellium casting costs 2p and astrocasts as if all planets were retrograde. Meaning, if there were five planets in Skull and you did a Stellium cast of Skull, you'd do the skull afflicts for all five planets. Normal astrocasts would deal one affliction at random, and then all the afflicts for the retrograde planets. It's useful IFF the planets are aligned properly. It's ABSURD during a syzygy, which is when ALL the planets are in the same sign. Syzygy's of Skull seem a bit too common - I think there's a bug in the celestial model that Lusternia is using, as I have seen several of Skull and none of anything else. Nativity Daevos if you want to see one, by the way biggrin.gif

Also, I believe you can use BIRTHDAYS and nativity gaze someone who's age is a multiple of six to see a very close approximation of the current sky.

Now, what I want to know is what Constellation, the new trans astrology skill, does...

(And yes, I know this was all offtopic.gif ninja.gif)

comfort.gif Good choice - hexes keep you safe from six letter words with three of them y's.

One good thing about Astrology - You can make good money selling spheres.

Also, if the randomizer is on your side, some of the costs can actually be positive, which is amusing. I used to repeat-cast certain spheres to regen my endurance or willpower for only the cost of mana.

Can't always do it, but its nice when you can.

It doesn't matter if syzygy of Skull is common...since syzygies are NOT that often. 250 in game years, right? It just lets astrologers be really good every now and then. tongue.gif
Xenthos2006-09-09 04:23:30
Syzygy of skull was day 1 or something, right? That's why there are so many.
