It doesn't matter if syzygy of Skull is common...since syzygies are NOT that often. 250 in game years, right? It just lets astrologers be really good every now and then.
It isn't unbalancingly often or anything, and I have nothing against it happening as often as it does, I'm just saying that I've heard multiple syzygy's of skull mentioned, and as far as I can tell, there have been no syzygy's of any other constellation. Hence my comment that there may be a bug in the celestial model, unless this behaviour is intentional.

A proper syzygy is when all planets are retrograde within a zodiac, I believe. A lot of planets seem to gather under Skull regularly, but not under any other sign (as far as I've observed). Most of the time it's all planets except one that have gathered under Skull, so the Stellium ray is still quite powerful.

Yeah, skull is in the best category for a syzygy of DOOM. Sensitivity, Stupidity, Hallucinations, Recklessness, and Aeon, all at once. It really just doesn't get any better than that for a single skill.
Syzygies of Fixed signs are a bit deadly because of the anorexia/asthma, but the other afflicts aren't so bad (amnesia, peace, dizzy), so it isn't all that great. Syzygies of Mutable signs have the whole freeze + confusion, which isn't bad, but pox/love/dementia really don't do much either.
