I was listening to a few Australian bands the other day and I began wondering how much Australian music is heard over the US or the UK. A lot of the music here comes from the US so we're fairly well aware of who your well known national singers, songwriters and bands are, but how well do you know, say, the
Rogue Traders
They're a really big electro pop band here in Australia. As much as I attempt to be a musical snob and steer clear of chart music, the Rogue Traders are just too catchy to avoid. They're website has some of their videos and stuff on there, check it out.
I'll post some more later on, and eveyrone else feel free to contribute with artists you think might not be known outside of your local area or country but probably should be!

For proper australian music, you should be looking at stuff like The Herd, Butterfingers and Hilltop Hoods.

Hmm, I wonder if people know Canadian singers too...
The ones on the charts at the moment include Mobile, Hedley, Chantal Kreviazuk, aand... other bands I can't think of right now.
Oh yeah, and Billy Talent, whom I really don't like

Here's a couple bands from my hometown of Grinnell, IA.
Merfolk: Small-time, just started within the last six years or so. They now play small gigs out in the bay area, mostly bars and whatnot. Pardon the sound quality on these ones, as they're off the demo CD (which someone stole, and who the hell steals demo CD's?!?!)
The Bar Song
I Know the Day Breaks You
Something About Motion
I've been a wreck
Speed of Sauce: Indie group. They put out an album with Alto Hecate, a group from Iowa City that was supposedly awesome. The drummer (and maybe the guitarist?) now does a radio show in the evenings back in Grinnell about underground music during the eighties.
I'm not doing anything wrong; I just want to be able to lock my door, okay? Geez.
