can anyone explain dreamweaving to me? >_< im debating between it and psionics (runes maybe?)
Unknown2006-09-16 16:28:54
edit: bah, double post...
Diamondais2006-09-16 16:31:07
Psionics - best skill for a mage
Dreamweaving - second best, lets you use your dreambody to spy or do some attacks on a person.
Runes - known as the worst for everyone but the Blacktalon.
Unknown2006-09-16 16:31:45
With Dreamweaving, you put yourself to sleep and seperate your "dreambody" from your physical body. Essentially, you are able to walk around and use attacks provided in the Dreamweaving skillset, while your body remains in a safe locations. However, there are things that can kill you while you're in dreambody.

Psionic has 2 variations, Telepathy and Telekinesis. Both are pretty formidable, and the common choice for mages. Trans Telekinetics is godly for bashing, due to a skill called Forcefield which converts health damage into ego damage.

Runes has no utility, and is generally sub-par, but has 1 or 2 choice afflictions. Its better for Druids than Mages, however. At least currently.

Dreamweaving is actually incredibly good for a geo.

Blackout Mote (which prevents the afflicted from seeing anything) + Chasm (Geo insta-kill which requires the person in the room for a certain ammount of time to fire)
Unknown2006-09-16 17:34:15
i see...would dreamweaving be good for a blacktalon as well?
Diamondais2006-09-16 17:36:29
Theyre pretty good for Runes, not so sure about Dreamweaving.
Everiine2006-09-16 17:38:30
But if you choose Dreamweaving, from the rants I've seen on the forums, it has to be one of the buggiest skills out there. Just be warned.

Yes. Dreamweaving is good for Druids, who can take advantage of things like Narcolepsy and exhaustion to land Sap, which is one of their finisher abilities. However, it is currently a bit buggy. But things are being worked on.

A very small number of people use Whyte's mapper - look in the "Project L" forum about it. I think there is stuff there for that.

Dreamweaving includes skills to make people more exhausted, and eventually start falling asleep from exhaustion. Geomancy includes a skill to make people more hungry. Someone who badly needs sleep and is starving to death can't really do very much. Just be warned that the dreamweaving skill costs up to 15 power to use, and the geomancy skill takes up to six minutes to work.

Blackout + Chasm sounds really nasty too. I'm not sure how effective it is though, since people can use allheale to cure the blackout (I double cast blackout motes if I see someone sip reflexively to casting a blackout mote), and since there is more than one message for chasm.

Killing someone purely with dreamweaving is VERY hard, and takes longer to recover from than it takes them to bash back the experience, assuming you succeed tongue.gif The willpower drain is INSANE. We're talking 3-4 hours to recover from a 10 minute attack. Also, you will fail to kill anyone who teleports/hermits/spores home, knows how to defend against a dreamweaver properly (which 99% of people don't know how to do, actually), or has an autosipper. It's really kinda pathetic most of the time. Maybe there will be boosts to it sometime, I don't know. A group would be more effective than a single person, but people are too often turned off by the difficulty.

EDIT: Oh, and on the topic of runes - runes are a sub par skill. There are just too few skills, and there are ZERO skills that aren't throwing runes at people. No utility, no support, no defence, just afflicts. Unmasked afflicts, mind you. However, Rad, one of the most omfgop skills in the game, is in there. It's a rune that teleports someone to a random adjacent room. Have two groups sitting at each other, one getting ready to rush in? Rad the people into your group, or just away from theirs. Have a large group raiding somewhere you're defending? Demesne their room and infuse a rad rune. Suddenly, their group is in four different places. It's so absurdly good biggrin.gif

Too bad the other skills aren't good too sad.gif

EDIT EDIT: Might as well also say that psionics are ridiculously overpowered compared to dreamweaving and runes. You can kill people with just telepathy or just telekinesis. You don't even need to have geomancy or learn any illusions at all - psionics specializations are enough to kill just about anyone by themselves tongue.gif

A while ago, they could have (pre-nerf heartburst and max-ego-based mindblast) but not so much anymore.

I thought mindblast was still based on max ego? Has that been fixed? biggrin.gif

I believe it's still based on that, but they nerfed the impact that it has.

That or it's just based on charisma now.
