As a few of you already know I pledged to a social club maybe.. 2 weeks ago. It's been fun and chaotic and it eats up all of my time. I'm a Highlander which means I'm the girl on campus that wears a kilt to social events and I help host the Kilt Kegger. There are other things, but I can't post them in a public place because that would be a big big no no.. but after experiencing what I experienced a few nights ago I feel REALLY REALLY BAD for the way I treated some of the aquamancer novices..
I was just wondering since I know a lot of people graduated and started going to college if anyone else has or is pledging right now..
and just in case anyone is wondering.. social club = sorority on a dry campus.
And I am coming back to Lusternia as soon as the IT people get off their lazy asses and open port 23.

Helllll no. I was super close to joining a sorority (a really preppy one too, scary) my first semester at college, but decided to think more about it, and realized I would not have time, and I liked my friends already. Not to bag on social clubs or frats/sororities, I just don't think they'd be for me.
Plus they claim they stay friends with people outside of it, but I haven't hung out with my friend who was my best friend at school and joined one in over 2 weeks, so yeah, not really friends with her any more.

Yeah, I stayed far far away from the preppy social clubs. They scared the shit out of me. They wore the same dresses, shoes, and had the same hair style at their little interest party.. so I was like "Noooo, stay away." They even have shirts that say they are stepford wives.. A few of my new sisters say they were scared of them too.
I had a group of friends I wanted to get away from. Y'know.. the kind that are more interested in getting drunk, screwing, ectera then going to classes? Yeah.. those.. and now I have lots of friends that agree with me that beer tastes icky and smoking is the devil. I really love my pledge sisters and especially my pledge momma cos she is so nice to me. That and I enjoy having random big brothers from BKT hug me and squeal about how cute the Highlander baby is. Oh god, I love that.

...major new fetish alert there.
Shorlen2006-09-19 19:34:34
Sounds like my group of friends We're not a frat, but we're kind of like one at times, even had a house last year with 18 people in the club living there. We don't like to think of ourselves as a frat though, since frats here are ALL the "getting drunk and screwing around is all that matters" kind We actually get harassed by them every week at our gatherings, since we have our gatherings in public places both out of our 20 year old tradition and to attract new members.
Glad to hear not all frats are like that

What new fetish? Guys in kilts are seriously hot. Oh, I do have a new one. I have a fetish for guys with accents. This one foreign guy (won't say his name) has been talking to me lately and I feel horrible because everytime he talks to me I kind of just stare and nod a lot. Maybe it makes me seem aloof or something.. I have no idea why he still talks to me. O_o;;
@Shorlen
There is a frat like that on campus.. but yeah.. that's for the guys. The social clubs are for girls only (since it is an old all women's school) and usually are more into community service than partying.

How do you go Greek without joining a Frat or Sorority? By definition, that's what Greek is

It's my school's version of it. Apparently no other school has social clubs and since I was wanting a response I couldn't just put that because of course no one else had been in a social club. It's special MUW tradition.
and holy crap there is a fight on my floor. -locks her door and hides-
Girls shouldn't live together.
And omg I missed you, Narsrim.
Ashteru2006-09-19 21:55:50
Going greek meant learning the language in my old school. I went greek for a year and quit the school, terrified.
Unknown2006-09-19 23:16:28
There's a frat (well, probably a few), um, club on my campus, though the term only conjures unpleasant images in my mind *social brainwashing* I'm not really sure what's the point of them anyway... just to make new friends and hang out?
Aym2006-09-19 23:32:26
My friends and I were invited to rush at the same time. I declined once I read through the rules. They stuck with it and they still drape themselves in the stupid green and pink frou frou. You could never be seen drinking your beer out of the bottle or can. You could never wear jeans or casual clothes to class. You couldn't bring a date to a function unless he was approved by the older sisters. The list went on to great lengths of retarded. I was content to chase my brother's friends around in Sig Ep rather than get in on the greek action first hand.

She's your best friend, but two weeks kills the friendship?

I liked pledging. It was horrible, I made several friends, and got to do some otherwise fantastic things with guys who thought they were hazing me. Little did they know... and now I get to do the same thing to pledges

Me and my Pmomma just went to walmart. Yay, I love her.
but yeah.. ever since I joined the club I've felt like there is always someone there for me. Someone to sit with at lunch or do stuff with at night or on weekends... and zomg I actually get invited to real parties now. SO MUCH TOGETHERNESS!
and the "hazing" they tried on me just scared the crap out of me.. that's about it. Oh.. and they make us do really stupid stuff sometimes, but I love it.

The only sorority we have on campus is a religious one. But, my sister said she would kick me into Thursday, of next year, if I tried to get into it.
Luckily, I don't want to. I just want to get into the History Honours Society

Yeah.. I wouldn't want into that one either...
My club is like.. the club for people who don't join clubs.
I'm very very happy.

There's none of this kind of stuff in Australia (well that I've heard of), I should start my own just because, with rules that change based on my emotions.
Though I'm curious about what hazing Narsrim went through etc
