Should be able to hire freelancing gnomes from your dock who will accompany you on your adventures and will heal you at about half-3/4 the rate that a good empath would be able to, or who will be able to pilot you somewhere slowly or will be able to man a turret slower

That's a GOOD idea!
Cuber approved.

- GRID SYNCHRONIZE TALK could be sent to all crew on target ship
- GRID CHANNEL TALK could be sent to all crew on target ship
Do you think all crews on both sides hear the empath-ship talk, or just the crew on the target ship?
(I'm assuming just the crew.)

Hrm, I think just the crew on the target ship, though I might be misunderstanding.
At the moment, the empath is the only one that hears talk from a different ship empath, and the only one who can reply. I just thought it would be slightly less redundant if everyone on your crew hears talk from a foreign ship empath, but your empath is the still the only one who can reply.
For example... the Rapture empath sends to the Avaerin empath.
(Synchronized): Rapture, the Aetherwing says, "Commander suggests we focus on the grid."
At the moment, only the Empath on Avaerin will hear this, and thus has to repeat to the rest of the crew so they know what is said, and then reply to the Rapture as well.
(Ship): You say, "Rapture suggests focusing on the grid."
(Synchronized): You say, "Will do."
(Ship): Shorlen says, "No, tell them to focus on the command module, so they can't run."
(Synchronized): You say, "Change in plans, focus on the command chair so they can't run."
(Synchronized): Rapture, the Aetherwing says, "Alright, but we don't have enough power to afflict."
(Ship): You say, "They will, but don't have enough power to afflict."
There's just a lot of relaying the same messages at the same time the Empath is supposed to be focused on healing the ship. I thought if at least the messages from Rapture in this example went to all crew, there's no delay while the Empath has to repeat incoming strategy communications, but they're still responsible for representing the ship in outbound comms.
Shorlen2006-09-27 00:27:03
I think Estarra's question was if the crew of the Empath's ship heard what the Empath was saying to the other ship, or just the crew of the other ship.
I don't really know the answer. I'd think just the crew of the target ship...

Ah, yes. I think just the crew of the target ship.

It'd be nice if both did, I think.

- Experience from aethercreatures NEEDS to be competitive at all levels. Scale experience gained by crewing based on the individual's level. A level 30 person should get reasonable experience, a level 90 person should get reasonable experience.
- Crews need to be able to generate gold. Implement a counter of how many creatures of each type a ship kills, and allow an NPC, maybe in aetherspace somewhere, to pay the crew a certain amount based on that counter. For example, every gorgog swarm killed means the captain is paid 150 gold, to distribute among the crew. Every dragon might be 2000 gold. Whatever.
Otherwise, it is absolutely impossible to get anything done in aetherspace because crews are too hard to organize and retain. The investment of time and cooperative team building is not rewarded at all.

I agree that there isn't nearly enough reward considering how many people it takes to man a fully equipped ship but gold is probably a bad idea. You and I would end up in aetherspace dragonhunting all the time if the gold payout was that good.
I think the reward should be power that is stored in the collectors or personal reserves.

Well, the gold can be scaled to any reasonable amount, but remember that it will be shared between 3-6 people. Experience is important, because time should be valued, but if people can't get some sort of personal benefit out of crewing its hard to motivate them away from almost every other activity that does lead to personal income.

Oh, here's a nonessential idea that would be AMAZINGLY good for non-commander ship captains.
AB EMPATH WORMHOLE
Syntax: GRID WORMHOLE WITH
Power: 10.
Requiring two synchronized ships, this command will allow the empaths of both to twist aetherspace itself into a stable wormhole that permits even the most basic pilots to quickly jump across leagues of distance. This process will take some time. Wormholes may not be formed in shift (red) or flux (purple) environments, require both ends to be in the same environment, and can only be created across the same plane.
AB AETHERCRAFT WORMHOLES
Syntax: PILOT JUMP
You can now steer your ship through dimensional wormholes in aetherspace, but be warned that you will emerge with no shield and no senses for a short time as your algontherine will be dazed by the vortex of energies.
AB COMBATEER JINSUNJOLT
Blah blah, whatever is already here. You may also blast wormholes in aetherspace to destroy them, but this requires extreme amounts of energy and will take a significant amount of time to accomplish.
AB COMMANDER
Blah blah, whatever is already here. You may also block wormholes to prevent ships from entering or leaving.

RE: Wormholes.
No.
The entire point of aethercraft travel is that it takes a long time. This would circumvent the entire drawback of it and make aetherbeasts completely outmoded.

Umm, yeah, to exactly three places (only to, not back) and for 10p each time. A 0p way that anyone could travel around through aetherspace would be like... flow not only still being worldwide, but interplanar too

- Any person with module permission should be able to CLOAK ON, CLOAK OFF. At the moment, only the owner is allowed.

Getting those mother- ing docked Celestian ships off your mother- ing plane so they stop using them as raiding bases.
