So our bards are to completely ignore farce or comical works for fear of being enemied to every org?
There go my favorite types of performances.
To be fair, I wrote the Viravain section, so it's more my fault than hers.
And ICly, Verithrax just gets a huge kick out of pissing people who take themselves too seriously off.

To use the dreaded OOC analogy: Stand up comics here in the states poke fun at Islamic Extremists - But I bet they don't invite any to their shows.
Now I'll go hide under my desk to avoid the rotten tomatoes thrown at me for using the OOC analogy.
Edit: I am NOT comparing Glomdoring to Islamic Extremists!

Just like with raiding or jumping people or anything that happens in the game.
That's true Noola(about the extremists), and the logical step from there would be certain members finding themselves unwelcome to events in which they can't behave themselves.

Right... because words are the same as murdering someone, no I think this has been proven wrong, by peaceful influencing, and in fact by the forests themselves, in their actions concerning ethereal do's and don'ts in the past. There is a line between violent action and words.
That's true Noola(about the extremists), and the logical step from there would be certain members finding themselves unwelcome to events in which they can't behave themselves.
Words can be FAR more inflamatory than murder. Just look at a certain cartoon and the reaction it caused.
And in any case, I'm not saying that I agree with it. Personally, I think censorship sucks. I think the FCC should be disbanned. But that doesn't mean that in the Basin of Life, where things are extreme and societies are set up to be fanatically devoted to whatever they're devoted to, a sense of humor about those things is to be expected ICly.
I'm not saying that folks who want to do satires or comedies or whatever shouldn't. They should just realize that doing so, especially in front of the folks they're poking fun at or who's Icons they're poking fun at, may get them into trouble. That seems pretty logical to me.

It's like going to a church and making rude jokes about Jesus on Sunday Morning, interrupting the sermon.
You don't honestly think everybody's going to laugh, do you?
While there is no Jesus in-game... Viravain *created* the Glomdoring. She *sacrificed* herself for the Glomdoring and for all of us... to save our home and our lives. So, um, she's VERY sacred to us. Apparently Verithrax understood that going in, and his intentional crafting to get that reaction screwed up Joli. Unfortunate.

To be fair, that analogy would only apply if they did the performance within the Glomdoring itself, during a ritual.

Ah, so inviting those Churchgoers over to your house right after the sermon and then doing the same thing is going to have them all amused, instead?

Absolutely!
...or not.

Yeah, yeah.
I know why I got enemied and I know it was for a good reason and blah blah blah. I don't really care since I have someone to smuggle me wood now.
Joli used to go to Glom for cookies, but they don't have them anymore.. because they were satan cookies and insulted their goddess.
And no one understands that Joli, IC, doesn't respect any of the Divine until they prove that they actually behave like a God is supposed to. Everytime I respect one of them I always find out something horrible about them OOC that I can't deal with IC because it's so screwed up. Viravain lost all of Joli's respect when she got called a whore and flung across the basin for something incredibly stupid. One of her order members was just trying to get bloody petting and he freaking got it -and- got me in trouble with Elcyrion, so I guess all is well in Glomdoring. Yes, I'm very very bitter. Joli did a little dance when Viravain died.

Good to know we can have a class that's a bit less combat oriented, but is still able to get enemied just as easilly.
Cairam2006-10-24 03:37:07
I thought it was funny.
And as creepy as Viravain was acting before the whole ousting of Shayle and Xenthos, really, can you blame Joli and Verithrax for it?
That was a rhetorical question.

Well it is a lot like. Say Um.... lets see sayyou were griving over you dead mother who had just died to save you and someone who happened to not like your mom invited you to a party where a bunch of people gathered around to desecrate and piss on your mother's corpse.

Analogy fails to take into account that warning regarding an unflattering apperiance of Viravain was given.
I'm just going to keep over-analyzing all of these analogies. Arguing over sematics is fun!

I know it's doable, but it just doesn't have the "play" feel. The writer knows exactly what's going to happen and when and so on. With actors there is that whole element of surprise.. what if someone messes up? Can they improv it? What if their wordpad thingy deletes all of their lines and they have no idea wtf they're doing?
I'm a little late to reply to this post, but I'd like to mention that the person they were trying to prove wrong was me. I only wish I had been there. I would have followed up their disgusting display of uselessness and idiocy with one of my well-crafted illusion plays, and I would have made them look even stupider than they had already made themselves look. If you ever get the opportunity, do come see some REAL art at one of Sybl's performances. Not mindless garbage.

Why don't you post some of your "real art" then?
Or maybe not judge someone by one performance.. Were you even at my first solo performance with just emotes?

Although her post contains a lot more anger than is warranted, I have seen Sybl's performances, and they're top-notch. If she shouldn't judge you by one performance, why did you judge her before even seeing her perform? I'm just puzzled why, as GA, you derided one of your guild members for suggesting a new style...

I have seen her perform in game.

I'd rather people come see it IC, timing is very important. And you know what? In showbuisness, nobody EVER judges you by your best performance, they judge you by your worst. And seeing as I got a standing ovation a few times I performed, whereas you got ENEMIED for your performance, I don't really think you hold even a candle to my skill.
EDIT: Oh, and by the way... After I left the Cacophony mainly as the result of your actions, I had comments from members of the Cacophony such as "I can't believe we lost a performer of your talent because of Joli."

Cry? Emo kid? What do I have to cry about? I joined the Harbingers and made Undersecretary and GR3 within months. My art is appreciated there. What did you get? Outcitizened, no guild, enemied to Glomdoring, made an utter fool out of yourself. I'm not the 75 year-old Guild Administrator that got showed up by a few-month-old novice. You need to adjust your perspective to the 'reality' setting.
