Glomdoring's Future

Back to Common Grounds.

Glomdoring needs to stay the same for the most part, and just shift from the isolationist commune theory to a conquesting dark forest who wants to cover the Basin with the glory of the forest.

Woot!

We can't let Morg eat Vira even if it would be cool. It would be 3v2 then (and if you count morg's other personalities it's more like 3v99), the traitors might take over the basin. unsure.gif

I don't think they need to change all that much, just remove the isolationist "come into our territory or try to learn about us and we'll try to kill you" ways.

I really don't see the problem with tainted forest or wyrded forest. Tainted sentients tend to go crazy evil yes but the forest itself is just different. It'd be like accidentally having acid spilled on your arm. It'll look nasty and gnarled but that doesn't really change what it is. Nature adapts just like Auseklis said it would. I only feel bad for poor Crow.

Hmm... I have to agree with Anarias on that one.
It would seem to suit Glomdoring's nature -no pun intended- to adapt to this.
As for Viravain, I've never been fond of her. A year ago (Real time), I made a few characters to check out all of the guilds that I might enjoy. I joined New Celest ("pre-pointless war with Serenwilde" Celest, that is) as a Celestine first, that was my first account, ever. Everyone there was really friendly to me... even when I accidentally cast Firewall and burnt Nico to a crisp... doh.gif
Moving on, I thought "Well, Glomdoring seems like a nice dark place to be, could be fun"... But when I joined I was totally shunned and passed-off by the people who were meant to teach me. I didn't even bother registering that character. So I feel there is a definate problem with the way things are done in Glomdoring. I usually don't care where a person comes from, rather I focus more on the individual, and admittedly, I've met some friendly Glomdorians (Glomdorings? Eh). I would like to see Viravain to change, but for Glomdoring to stay pretty much the way it is (With, of course, the exception of their anti-novice problem)

My.. I Have rambled on. Apologies. happy.gif

Is anyone else as curious as I am about what was decided at the meeting?

Hope everything turns out for the best in Glom, and congrats Shayle and Xenthos for getting your spots back.

Not at all. >.>

By the way, I picked option number two on both polls.

Yay for proving his point. Stop trying to revolve the world around you please. And I'm not someone who thinks you don't belong in Lusternia, I'm just one of the many who hate you for entirely different reasons.

Gosh I'm sorry, but I haven't lived anyone else's experiences I can use to refute the accusations players are making about admins not being receptive to player driven plots. All my other lives have been as a power-hungry emperor of 19th century France, who -- coincidentally -- had no internet access, and so never played Lusternia at all. Not unless you count those two stolen hours at the Citizens' Library where I bashed my way through Newton Caverns with a guillotine I found lying around. Hardly enough to offer any sort of input from that perspective.

And as for that footnote asking for the admins to make a more official statement about liking player-driven plots, you are absolutely right and I hang my head in shame as the only player ever to use the forums (much less this specific thread) in a self-serving manner.

Well, for starters, a small org generates less money than a large org.

A small org is also less welcoming of new players, which hinders expansion.

I would like to state a piece of evidence in contrary to the common perception here. I feel that I am still a relative novice. In my time here I have made a total of four characters, one in each commune.

My first in Serenwilde was an okay experience but at the time I was turned a bit off because of plantcreatures that attacked on sight infesting the forest. For a novice straight from the portals who didn't know the "writhe" command to be killed repeatedly in his own commune was a bit frustrating. Given that and a desire to see another group I made another character to see more of the world.

My second character, who has since become my primary character, is a Shadowdancer. Of all 4 game cities/communes I had the most helpful and welcoming entrance as a novice. The officers of the Shadowdancer (Especially Shayle, but all of them really) went out of their way to answer questions, teach me the things I needed to know just to move around and hunt, and the like.

After having abandoned my serenwilde alt and being firmly happy with my Shadowdancer I tried alts in both cities as well just to see what was there. The Ur'Guard while fairly active with their novices felt especially restrictive as a novice, and weren't really what I was looking for. The Aquamancers by contrast have been so hands off as to seem hardly a guild. While I have no doubt that many of them would be happy to answer questions I might have, and some of have asked around the novice channel to see if I needed anything, they seemed a bit *too* hands off for a new novice.

The feeling that I have always gotten from Glomdoring from within is that while we may shun strangers, that doesn't mean we shun novices. After all, in an Us vs Them mentality novices are already part of Us and so are welcomed.

You all are right that we do not welcome in outsiders, and so may be a poor choice for a Rogue to try to convert to our cause. But that doesn't make us a bad choice when it comes to the character creation screen. A new character isn't an outsider, a new novice is already Glomdoring, and as we always say: "Nothing matters but Glomdoring".

Umm, thats a great story, but the newbie killing plants are in Glomdoring, not Serenwilde...

Wrong.

During the Dark Spirit quest Grutina was taking over the Serenwilde and there were aggressive plants all over the place.

Glomdoring has the one aggressive spider which is regularly killed, and the Thorn beasts which are only occasionally aggressive.

Ok... so it was a one time event, still, Glomdoring is known for its newbie killing plants. There are blackwidows which gank people up into the trees and bind them up and kill them also. There are many spiders which attack people. And those thornbeasts are nasty, and just as agressive as the black widows and bulbous spiders.

The black widows do not web members of the Glomdoring-- so unless a newbie goes for a tree crawl, they won't meet the widows. The bulbous spider and beasts do not attack Glomdoring members under level 20. Beasts are nowhere near as aggressive as the widows and spiders-- they have a % chance to aggro when you walk in. They will NOT become aggressive UNLESS that number is rolled when you enter the room. If they rustle their leaves a bit or have no emote when you enter, they aren't going to attack. It's only when they do the violent emote that they're going to.

All nice and good... So if blackwood made an alt right now, Would he have a higher chance of getting attacked by a plant in Serenwilde or in Glomdoring?

At the time he created the alt, he had an equal chance of being attacked in Serenwilde and Glomdoring.. and obviously Glomdoring handled it better. So either way, that says something.
